Jaguars Josh Hines-Allen on how new DC Anthony Campanile has stood out early on
Jaguars' defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile is, of course, bringing a new defensive scheme to Jacksonville. But with offseason programs now behind us, the Xs and Os aren't what stands out to defensive end Josh Hines-Allen.
On a recent appearance on the 'Rich Eisen Show,' Hine's Allen detailed what instead stands out about Campanile.
"I love Coach Camp," said Hines-Allen. "He's somebody that you want to play for." ... "This dude is intense but he shows the passion and love that he has for the game and for us. It makes us want to play for him. It makes us want to understand the defense a little bit faster for him. So that's always a good trait to have in a coach."
Across this new Jaguars' coaching staff is a players-first mentality. As Liam Coen has said since taking over as the head coach, it's about players over plays.
Like any play-caller, Campanile has core principles that his defensive scheme is built around. But this is a malleable defense that will adjust to each opponent. It will also mold to the skill sets that are on the Jaguars' roster in order to maximize each player's abilities and put them in positions to make plays.
Accomplishing this begins with communication and understanding what each player does well and what roles they are comfortable filling.
The scheme absolutely matters--we all know that--but just as important to Campanile is that his defenders also have the right play style each week and on every play.
"The most important thing when you talk about defense is your play-style," said Campanile earlier this offseason. "My vision for us defensively, we want to be a tough, fast, physical, violent at the point of attack team.
"What does that mean? That means that you got guys who take pride in not getting blocked. Everybody talks about running to the ball, I don't think there's another person in the world who believes in running to the ball more than I do. But you can't run to the ball if you don't get off blocks, and that is something that's going to be celebrated in our room."

Evan Engram: It was easy being first in building with Jaguars, it's tough with Broncos
Evan Engram is early in his first season with the Broncos, but the tight end has already noticed one significant difference from his time with the Jaguars. Engram thrived on the field for most of his time in Jacksonville and left the Jaguars with 234 catches in 43 games, but he made it sound like he's found a better cultural fit for himself in Denver. Engram said that 'the way that this team connects, the way they push each other' has been his favorite thing about being with the Broncos and illustrated how that connection manifests itself at a training camp press conference. 'I tell people, all my family, it's hard to be the first one in the building,' Engram said, via DNVR Broncos. 'I'm used to being the first one. In Jacksonville, I was always the first one. It was really easy. Here, it's kind of tough. A lot of guys doing it at the highest level. It's just a contagious environment. We all want to get better, and we all have high standards that we all want to achieve together.' The Broncos took a significant step forward in head coach Sean Payton's second season by going from 8-9 to making the playoffs for the first time since winning Super Bowl 50. They lost to Buffalo in their first playoff game, but the commitment that Engram has noticed could help push them even further up the AFC ladder in 2025.

HBO releases 'Hard Knocks' 2025 schedule featuring the Buffalo Bills
HBO's "Hard Knocks" series will be on-demand viewing for Buffalo Bills fans this summer. HBO has released the episode airing dates for the documentary series following the Bills throughout this year's training camp. HBO will release the first episode of the series on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 9 p.m. Viewers may also stream the episodes on HBO Max. Each subsequent episode will be released weekly on Tuesday night, culminating with the season finale on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The 2025 edition of the series, officially titled "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills," will explore Buffalo's ramp-up to another highly anticipated season. Buffalo is the favorite to win the AFC East, and the Bills are among the top bets to make a run to the Super Bowl. The episodes will provide an all-access look at the team, both on and off the field. Quarterback Josh Allen, who will undoubtedly be a focal point of the show, isn't worried about the cameras at training camp. "This is what a good organization looks like, and people are going to get a sneak peek into that and just how we operate." Allen adds, "So again, you can kind of think two ways about it, but we're taking the way of like, hey, let's just do what we do and whatever is shown is shown." Several other storylines may be of interest to producers. The series can explore what the Bills need to do to finally get over the hump and win their first AFC Championship since 1993. Additionally, there are several interesting subplots. Running back James Cook, in search of a new contract, is fully participating in activities. Buffalo's new-look defensive line, with several new additions via the draft and free agency, will be something to watch as well. Beyond the sidelines, safety Damar Hamlin, who has advocated for youth safety and resources since his cardiac arrest in January 2023, was present when New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation for youth sports organizations to have AEDs (automatic defibrillator devices) and implementation plans for youth events. The preview of the Bills' appearance on "Hard Knocks" can be found below:
