Porsche warns workers of cost-cuts amid 'serious' situation

German sportscar-maker Porsche told employees Friday to prepare for another round of cost-cutting in the latest blow to the country's embattled auto sector. Any further steps would come on top of the 1,900 job cuts the company announced in February while Volkswagen, Porsche's parent group, is already in the process of cutting 35,000 jobs by 2030. "Our business model, which sustained us for many decades, no longer works in its current form," Porsche management said in a letter to employees, excerpts of which were shared with AFP. "Our operating conditions have deteriorated dramatically in a short period of time," the letter read. Negotiations are expected in the second half of the year "to assure the long-term future of the company", the letter added without going into specifics of possible measures. Fierce competition in China from domestic players, tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump and the dollar weakening versus the euro were all weighing on Porsche, bosses said. The cost of ramping up electric vehicle production amid tepid demand was also hurting the company, they added. "The situation remains serious and the sector is evolving very dynamically," the letter said. Porsche in April slashed its profit and sales forecasts for the year, citing "continued challenging market conditions" in China. Porsche's vehicle deliveries in China fell 28 percent in the first half of the year and six percent worldwide.>

Autoliv hikes sales forecast as tariff costs shift to automakers

Swedish auto supplier Autoliv raised its full-year sales guidance on Friday and said it had passed on most of its tariff-related costs in the second quarter, as it reported a profit for the period that matched expectations. The world's largest maker of airbags and seat belts is mostly affected by tariffs between the United States and Mexico and Canada. U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to raise tariffs on imports from both of these countries to 30 per cent and 35 per cent, respectively, from August. U.S. tariffs on foreign auto imports are expected to raise car prices by thousands of dollars, reducing demand and hurting job growth, rattling an industry already struggling with a difficult transition to electric vehicles. "We recovered around 80 per cent of tariff costs in the second quarter, and we expect to recover most of what remains later in the year," CEO Mikael Bratt said, adding that the company remained confident it could continue to successfully receive compensation from its customers for tariffs. "There's no logic whatsoever why the suppliers or the value chain should absorb this," he added. Autoliv - customers of which include most of the largest automakers such as Volkswagen, Stellantis and Toyota - said it now sees organic sales growth this year of around 3 per cent. Its previous forecast, last reiterated in April, was for 2 per cent. Analysts at Jefferies said in a note to clients that the results again demonstrated Autoliv's resilience in a quarter with significant tariff volatility. Adjusted operating profit grew in line with expectations to $251 million from a year-earlier $221 million, with organic sales growth of 3 per cent. Its adjusted operating margin was 9.1 per cent, a near industry-leading margin, according to analysts at Citi.

Porsche made its one millionth Macan: What makes it the brand's best-selling car?

The one millionth Porsche Macan is the Macan 4, sold in a Frozen Blue Metallic colourway. (Porsche) Check Offers Porsche has announced that it rolled out its one millionth Macan from the production line last week. The German carmaker achieved this milestone 12 years after the compact SUV first hit the production line in late 2013. In contrast, the Porsche 911 took nearly 54 years of continuous production, beginning in 1964, to reach the same milestone. The Porsche Macan has been manufactured in the Leipzig plant in Germany since its inception and has quickly become the brand's best-selling car, despite infrequent tussles with the Cayenne SUV. The Macan is now the fastest Porsche to have hit the one million mark, with the Cayenne having taken 18 years to do the same. Manufacturers such as Toyota and Volkswagen sold close to 10 million cars globally last year. Porsche Macan: What makes it special? The Porsche Macan is sold in both petrol and EV variants, with the former to be discontinued in the coming years. The Porsche Macan SUV is sold in both ICE-powered and electric versions, although the carmaker will soon discontinue the former in favour of the latter. In India, the Macan ICE is listed at ₹ 96.05 lakh, while the Macan EV starts from ₹ 1.21 crore (both ex-showroom). The Macan ICE derives its power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine that gets mated to a 7-speed PDK transmission, sending power to all four wheels. With this, the compact SUV makes 261 bhp and 400 Nm of torque, topping out at 232 kmph. It makes the 0-100 kmph sprint in 6.4 seconds, which drops to 6.2 seconds with the Sport Chrono package. Porsche sells the Macan EV in three variants: standard, 4S, and Turbo. All variants are equipped with the same 100 kWh battery pack, which delivers a maximum WLTP range of between 536-641 km, depending on the variant. The base model makes up to 355 bhp and 563 Nm of torque, sending the power to the rear wheels. The Macan 4S make 510 bhp of max power and 820 Nm of torque, and the range-topping Turbo variant delivers 630 bhp and a whopping 1,130 Nm of peak torque. Both the 4S and the Turbo are sold as all-wheel drive models. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2025, Best SUVs in India. First Published Date: 17 Jul 2025, 10:28 am IST
