2-year-old dies following crash on I-64 in Hampton
HAMPTON — A 2-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a vehicle crash last week on Interstate 64 westbound near the Interstate 664 interchange in a work zone. Virginia State Police said at 8:35 p.m. on July 30 a Chevrolet Cruze, whose driver was later charged with following too closely, struck the rear of a Toyota Sienna, causing the Sienna to spin out and strike a Honda Accord. The Sienna ran off of the road's left side and struck a jersey wall barrier, the Cruze ran off the road's right side and struck a guard rail and the Accord remained in the travel lanes. The boy, who state police said was properly restrained, was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries. A 36-year-old woman in the Sienna suffered serious injuries and was also sent to a hospital. The driver of the Sienna sustained minor injuries. Neither the driver of the Accord nor the Cruze were injured. Authorities said as of Tuesday the crash was still under investigation. No additional details were immediately available. Danville man accused of impersonating dead South Carolina deputy
ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — One man has been charged after allegedly impersonating a South Carolina deputy in late June. Just after 4 a.m. on June 29, an Anderson County deputy pulled over a truck traveling on U.S. Highway 127, according to a criminal complaint. The deputy said that Wendell Dean, 66, of Danville, pulled out what appeared to be a sheriff's badge, said he worked in South Carolina, and was previously a corrections officer in Jefferson County. Dean was supposedly seen with a Dillon County Sheriff's Office shirt hanging in his truck during the stop, the complaint noted. After making contact with both agencies, both denied recognizing Dean. Read more of the latest Kentucky Derby news After further investigation, the sheriff's office found that the shirt and badge were taken from the home of a deputy who died five years ago. Officials in DCSO said they were investigating whether the badge and shirt were misplaced or if they were stolen from the late deputy's home. The arresting officer also said it was found that Dean had a warrant out of Jefferson County. He was charged with impersonating a peace officer and booked into the Franklin County Regional Jail.
