‘Stick to your brief': Trinamool gets tough with Anubrata
2
Kolkata: "Do not increase the party's unease, stick to your responsibilities and speak less" was the Trinamool leadership's message to Birbhum's warring netas Anubrata Mondal and Kajal Sheikh on Saturday, making it clear that the party's patience was thinning with their constant bickering.
TMC functionaries maintained that Mondal had been admonished enough for his abuse and threats at Bolpur IC Liton Halder, pointing out the selective outrage against Trinamool compared to CPM's radio silence on Anil Basu and Binoy Konar and BJP's on Kailash Vijayvargiya.
Mondal and Sheikh — who were in Kolkata to attend TMC's July 21 Martyrs' Day preparatory meet at the Bhowanipore party office — met party state president Subrata Bakshi, senior ministers Firhad Hakim and Aroop Biswas, and TMC's Birbhum chairperson and deputy speaker Asish Banerjee.
Sources said the two netas were told to stick to their responsibilities and not create roadblocks for each other, which would end up harming the party. They were asked to not do anything that brings disrepute to TMC and frustrates party workers. Mondal and Sheikh were also asked to speak less.
The TMC leadership's clear message was aimed at stopping the constant bickering between Mondal and Sheikh, the Birbhum zilla parishad chairperson.

Mondal is based primarily in Bolpur; Sheikh in Nanoor.
The rivalry between the two netas goes back several years. Mondal was the party's Birbhum all-powerful district president till he was arrested and imprisoned for a year-and-a-half till his release in Sept 2024. In this interim, Trinamool had formed a five-member core committee, including Sheikh, to helm party affairs in his absence during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
In 2024, TMC easily won the two LS seats Birbhum and Bolpur. After his release, Mondal was drafted in the core committee and asked to chair it but not given independent charge.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said: "There can be differences of opinion anywhere, in a family or among friends. And here we are talking of a huge party like Trinamool. But whatever be it, we all revere and follow one leader,
Mamata Banerjee
, and work for Trinamool.
Nothing is bigger than that. In the end, everyone will fight for the party."
Party MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said: "Whatever perceived differences that were, everything has been resolved."
Saturday's meeting also deliberated on the recent controversy surrounding the leaked audio tapes in which Mondal was heard threatening and abusing the Bolpur IC. Mondal questioned how and why the call was recorded and leaked and pointed out how his medical certificate to cops found its way to the media.
Mondal was reportedly asked to cool down.
Hakim said: "The party has strongly condemned abuses and misbehaviour. Anubrata was asked to issue a public apology and a personal apology (to the police officer) within four hours. The party acted strongly. But why is only Trinamool being asked about it, why aren't similar questions or outrages directed against CPM on Anil Basu and Binoy Konar and BJP on Kailash Vijayvargiya?"
TMC's state disciplinary committee head Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay also reiterated that the party had acted against Mondal.

‘No Choice…': Nishikant Dubey Says BJP Needs PM Modi In 2029 Polls
BJP's Nishikant Dubey sees PM Modi as the party's leader for 15-20 years, claiming BJP won't win 150 seats in 2029 without him. He also spoke on Thackeray brothers and Owaisi. BJP leader Nishikant Dubey has said that he considers Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the party's central leader for the next 15-20 years as the party won't be able to secure a good margin in the 2029 Lok Sabha polls if the latter won't be projected as the party's face. In a two-minute teaser of interview shared by ANI, the Godda MP expressed his views on varied issues and topics, ranging from his controversial remark on Thackeray brothers, Operation Bluestar and his 'love-hate" relationship with AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. BJP Needs PM Modi In the interview with the news agency, the BJP MP said that he only sees Narendra Modi as the central leader for the next 15-20 years. He even claimed that if PM Modi won't be projected as the BJP's face, the saffron camp won't be able to win even 150 seats in the general elections. He said that BJP has no choice other than PM Modi to contest the 2029 Lok Sabha elections in his name. When asked about Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat's recent remarks suggesting that leaders should step aside at the age of 75, Dubey said that this does not apply to PM Modi as the party needs him to be in power rather than PM Modi requiring BJP. The BJP MP further said that a political party functions on the basis of personality cult. Remark on Thackerays The BJP MP also spilled the beans about his recent controversial remark on Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray over the ongoing language row in Maharashtra where he dared the 'bahut bade boss' to come out of the state and said, ' Tumko patak patak ke maarenge" (you will be thrashed badly, again and again). Dubey said he being a lawmaker, he won't take the law in his hands, but the people of whichever state the Thackeray brothers will visit, will thrash them. Dubey's comments came in response to Raj Thackeray's comment on the victory rally in Mumbai earlier this month, where he told his party workers to beat those who don't speak Marathi, but not to record videos of such incidents. Love-Hate Relationship With Owaisi Dubey also revealed about the relationship and bond he shares with his arch rival and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. During the interview, he said that he shares a cheerful and friendly bond with Owaisi for a long time. Dubey said that Owaisi is a family friend of him for years. The two firebrand leaders from rival parties were part of a seven-member delegation, headed by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, that travelled to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Algeria as part of India's global outreach in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack and India's response, Operation Sindoor. Before the team-up, Owaisi had slammed Dubey for his remarks on the Supreme Court. Following the apex court's landmark ruling on Tamil Nadu, which effectively imposed a deadline for the President and governors to approve Bills passed twice by the legislature, Dubey had said, 'Parliament and State Assemblies should be shut," noting that the Supreme Court was overstepping its boundaries. Dubey began his political journey in 2009, and has won the Godda Lok Sabha constituency in every election since then. From the Supreme Court and former Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna to, his latest political row challenging the Thackerays—Dubey's diatribes have targeted all and sundry. ‘Pick different venue next year,' says Calcutta High Court on TMC's July 21 rally
The Calcutta High Court on Thursday expressed displeasure over the upcoming July 21 Martyrs' Day rally organised by the Trinamool Congress, and said that from next year, the event should be shifted to an alternative venue. A petition filed before Justice Tirthankar Ghosh alleged the rally caused inconvenience to the public. While refusing to intervene this year, the judge said, 'At the last moment, I will not change the venue. But from next year, select another place like Sahid Minar, Brigade Parade Ground, or Salt Lake Stadium. Political parties have emotional attachment to such days, but stadiums should be used for such programs.' The petitioner had pointed out that the rally, to be held on a working Monday, would disrupt traffic and affect office-goers. Justice Ghosh remarked, 'For how many more days will people tolerate? Declare it a holiday. If such programs are held on working days, how will police manage traffic?' During the hearing, TMC counsel Biswaroop Bhattacharya argued the petition was politically motivated. 'This has been going on for 13 years,' he said. Advocate General Kishore Dutta submitted, 'They are alleging traffic jams. But traffic curbs happen during any major program, even when the Prime Minister or President visits, or during events at Brigade Parade Ground.' Dutta also questioned the timing of the plea: 'Why was the petition filed just seven days before the rally, when it happens every year? Hundreds to thousands come from the districts; even during Pujas, there are curbs.' Justice Ghosh, however, said, 'Can you (the state) say there will be no congestion? Let the Police Commissioner submit an affidavit that there will be no traffic disruption.' Petitioner Shamim Ahmed said, 'We are not asking for a ban. We are saying that Section 144 is imposed from KC Das to Victoria House. When other parties seek permission to hold events there, the state cites traffic disruption as a reason to deny it. Police have already issued notifications stating curbs across major streets.' Justice Ghosh said that July 21 cannot be observed by 'blocking roads, causing jams, and seizing buses'. A long hearing will be held to decide whether future rallies can be held in front of Victoria House. Until then, the court directed that both the police and ruling party must ensure no traffic jams occur. The Kolkata Police Commissioner has been asked to submit a bond stating this guarantee. Police notices already issued regarding the rally must be submitted to the court on Friday, Justice Ghosh said. The state will then argue the admissibility of the case. Since 2011, the rally has been held annually, typically in front of the Victoria House, to commemorate the 1993 police firing that killed 13 protestors from the then-Congress and Trinamool Congress.

Hero's welcome for Nvidia CEO! Jensen Huang delivers love letter to China, says nation leads in EVs and innovation
Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, visited Beijing, China. He praised China a lot, calling its electric vehicles (EVs) and tech the best in the world. This visit came just one day after the Trump administration allowed Nvidia to sell one of its AI chips to China again, as per the WSJ report. That chip sale deal was part of a trade truce: China agreed to speed up rare-earth mineral exports, and the U.S. relaxed some tech rules. Some people in U.S. Congress doesn't like the idea of giving China access to advanced American tech—they say it could help the Chinese military, according to the reports.
