Bahrain Reaffirms Strong Commitment to Combating Human Trafficking

On the eve of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed annually on July 30, Bahrain has reiterated its firm commitment to fighting this global crime, which is considered one of the most severe violations of human rights and human dignity. Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fadhel Al Buainain highlighted that the Public Prosecution plays a central role in the Kingdom's efforts to combat human trafficking. This includes taking effective legal action against offenders and ensuring full legal protection for victims. Bahrain was among the first countries in the region to establish a dedicated prosecution office for human trafficking cases, reflecting the Kingdom's awareness of the unique challenges and complexities of these crimes. Dr. Al Buainain noted that Bahrain operates a comprehensive national framework to combat human trafficking, uniting various government bodies under the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons. This coordinated approach has strengthened the country's performance and institutional cooperation. These efforts have earned Bahrain the top Tier 1 ranking in the U.S. State Department's annual Trafficking in Persons Report for several consecutive years, demonstrating the Kingdom's credibility, seriousness, and leadership in this area. He credited these achievements to the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who has championed justice, equality, and the protection of human dignity, alongside the continuous support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in advancing the Kingdom's justice system. Beyond investigations and prosecutions, Bahrain's Public Prosecution actively fosters international cooperation, exchanging knowledge and best practices with other countries, participating in regional and global forums, and contributing to updating legal frameworks in line with international standards. Dr. Al Buainain also stressed the importance of public awareness in preventing human trafficking. He emphasized that an informed society serves as the first line of defense, calling for active roles from the media, educational institutions, and civil society to spread awareness and strengthen a culture of protection and responsibility. He reaffirmed that the Public Prosecution will continue to enhance partnerships with national and international stakeholders, improve early detection methods, and provide full protection for victims—ensuring a safe society where justice prevails and human dignity is preserved.
