Amritsar police unearth 2 international narco-arms, hawala modules, 9 held
Sharing details of the first operation during a press conference, Amritsar commissioner of police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said in an intelligence-led operation, police teams arrested three individuals involved in a narco-arms module, and recovered five sophisticated pistols, including three 9MM Glock pistols and two .30-bore Chinese pistols, along with cartridges from their possession.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that two of the arrested accused, Jaspreet Singh Chauhan, alias Kalu, 26, of Sokha Bhaini village in Barnala, and Harpreet Singh, alias Happy, 25, of Bholoke village in Gurdaspur, had recently returned from Malaysia, and were in touch with their handlers in Malaysia and Pakistan.
They came to Amritsar along with their friend Tejbir Singh, 21, of Basti Lal Singh village in Tarn Taran, and on instructions of their handlers, picked up weapon and drugs consignment, he said. These were meant to be further delivered to criminal elements to carry out crimes.
The recoveries resulted in an FIR under Section 21-C of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Sadar police station in Amritsar.
In another operation, the CP said police uncovered a narco-hawala network operated by Karnataka natives Abdul Rehman, 45, and Pardeep Pintu, 44, who routed drug proceeds to Dubai through illegal channels.
Apart from the duo, four more accused were arrested, identified as Danish, alias Gaggu, 19, of Dashmesh Nagar in Amritsar; Saloni, 19, of Kot Khalsa in Amritsar; Jobanpreet Singh, alias Joban, 28, of Meharbanpura village in Amritsar; and Kulwinder Singh, 28, of Kakka village in Ludhiana.
A total of ₹9.7 lakh drug money and 150 gm heroin were recovered from their possession.
The accused were booked under Sections 21-B, 29 and 27-A of the NDPS Act at the Islamabad police station in Amritsar.
Further investigation was on, and more arrests and recoveries were likely in coming days, Bhullar added.

Minor among three open fire outside store, two arrested
NEW DELHI: Three persons, including a minor, allegedly pelted stones and brandished firearms outside a store in Munirka in a drunken act of retaliation over the alleged harassment of one of the accused's sister, police said on Sunday. Two of them have been apprehended, while a search is underway for the third. The accused have been identified as Wahar Ahmed alias Ballu (22), a second-year BA student pursuing education through open learning and a minor. A pistol with a live cartridge and a scooty used in the offence have been recovered, police said. Police said the incident was triggered by claims that one of the accused's sisters had been subjected to inappropriate comments and behaviour by staffers at an online grocery platform's store. In retaliation, the accused pelted stones and brandished firearms early in the morning on July 4. No one was injured in the incident. 'The incident took place around 6:33 am on July 4, when a PCR call was received at Kishangarh police station reporting gunfire near the Zepto store,' DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel said. The caller informed police that the act was captured on CCTV and no injuries were reported. A police team immediately reached the location and launched an investigation. Upon examining the CCTV footage, officers saw two individuals arrive on a scooter and begin pelting stones. One of them, while seated on the scooter, was seen displaying what appeared to be a firearm before fleeing the scene. A case was registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act and BNS. Using technical surveillance and local inputs, Wahar Ahmed was apprehended. Based on his interrogation, the CCL (Child in Conflict with Law) was also taken into custody, the DCP said. Police said both accused confessed. On the night of July 3, they were drinking with a friend named Dhruv, who expressed anger over the alleged misbehaviour towards Wahar's sister. 'On July 4, Wahar, Dhruv and juvenile reached the store, pelted stones and brandished a country-made pistol to threaten the staff,' the officials said.

On the run for 25 years, killer of taxi drivers in police net
NEW DELHI: A 49-year-old man, on the run for the last 25 years, has been arrested in connection with a string of crimes when he hired taxis, killed the drivers, dumped their bodies in remote forested areas of Uttarakhand, looted vehicles and resold them across the Nepal border in Delhi, police said on Sunday. Ajay Lamba alias Bansi was wanted in four brutal robbery-cum-murder cases across Delhi and Uttarakhand and declared a proclaimed offender in a 2001 murder case registered at New Ashok Nagar police station. He was the mastermind behind several heinous crimes, including killing taxi drivers between 1999 and 2001, a senior police officer said. A Delhi-born, he shifted base to UP's Bareilly and teamed up with Dhirendra and Dilip Negi,' DCP (Crime) Aditya Gautam said. Lamba managed to remain undetected for over two decades by frequently changing locations and identities. In 2020, he became involved in narcotics smuggling, primarily operating between Odisha and Delhi. In 2021, he was arrested in a narcotics case under the NDPS Act by Sagarpur police and again in connection with a jewellery shop dacoity in Berhampur, Odisha, in 2024. Lamba was out on bail and was arrested in a coordinated operation in Delhi, DCP said.

Hyderabad grocery store raided; ganja and ganja chocolates seized worth Rs 3.5 lakh; 1 held
Representative Image HYDERABAD: The Shadnagar excise team raided a grocery store in Nandigama and seized two kg of ganja and nine kg of ganja chocolates, all worth Rs 3.5 lakh. Grocery store operator, Pintu Singh, a native of Bihar, has been arrested. Based on a tip-off that Pintu Singh has been selling ganja near the old national highway at Nandigama, the excise team raided the shop on Saturday morning. A case under NDPS Act has been registered.
