Right from the moment he stepped into the nets area of the Edgbaston Cricket Ground,
Jasprit Bumrah
meant business. Soon after covering the little walk, he picked up a ball and the trademark shoulder click - right goes up and left goes down as he walks - he was standing on top of his mark in the centre net.

Just a few gentle deliveries followed as he began warming up for what was going to be an intense spell of fast bowling. With every delivery, the pace increased and he was loose enough, the measuring tape was out to mark his run-up for a 20-minute burst at full tilt. With Shubman Gill, KL Rahul,
Yashasvi Jaiswal
and Rishabh Pant taking a break from today's session, Bumrah bowled to the likes of Sai Sudharsan,
Ravindra Jadeja
and Karun Nair in the nets.

He beat the batters with ease, tested them with accuracy and kept them on their toes with different angles - around the wicket for left-handers and using the width of the crease for the right-handers. More than the skills, it was how he looked mentally very fresh and the three-day break from bowling clearly helped the 31-year-old who was bowling with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna in tandem.
Poll
Should Kuldeep Yadav be included in the playing XI for the second Test?
Yes, definitely
No, he should wait
Depends on Bumrah's fitness
The trio, which featured in the Headingley Test, didn't do any bowling during the team's first practice in Birmingham on Friday but trained with a lot of purpose on the second day.

Each of them bowled for around thirty minutes and then later padded up for an extended hit in the nets.
Siraj worked on leaves, ducks and forward defence with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak while Bumrah kept shuffling nets for a taste of everything which was on offer. Starting from side-armers to slow bowlers to some throwdowns, Bumrah was very focussed during his long session. There was plenty of shadow practice when he waited for his turn to bat and from the horrible start in the far most net, the right-hander grew in confidence after he played a few deliveries and looked assured before ending the long day.
Jasprit Bumrah: India's Spearhead Locked In for 2nd Test?
Business as usual continued in the other nets as Ravindra Jadeja continued to bat, Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep continued to make an impression, and
Kuldeep Yadav
continued to work on both batting and bowling. While the door for either Akash or Arshdeep depends on Bumrah's availability, Kuldeep is leaving no stone unturned as far as preparation is concerned.
The chinaman bowls, bats and takes a lot of feedback from both the support staff and other players in the team.
He doesn't shy away from trying new angles or varying lengths and the dry weather in Birmingham could force the Indian team management to look his way for the second Test next week.
Physically, he is looking as good as he has in the recent past and the bowling rhythm is very evident from the way he is bowling in the nets right from the pre-match sessions in Leeds before the series opener. He had a very gripping contest with Gill on eve of the first Test and continues to enjoy his battles with India batters in Birmingham.
Kuldeep Yadav spins it tight at Edgbaston
It's not just the bowling he is working on as hours have been spent honing his batting under the watchful eyes of head coach
Gautam Gambhir
and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak. For the last 18 months, Kuldeep has been making a very serious effort to get his act sorted with the bat and he is desperate to start making meaningful contributions for the side with the bat too.
After two days under the sun, the side will now have a break and will regroup for on June 30. The bowlers can put their feet up and relax, and bowling coach
Morne Morkel
can resume his WWE with Arshdeep and Akash Deep in the team hotel. As far as Bumrah is concerned, the suspense will continue, at least for the next 48 hours.

How alleged sexual assault changed the life of five young Canadian hockey stars
The alleged sexual assault involving five Canadian hockey players - Michael McLeod , Dillon Dube , Carter Hart , Cal Foote and Alex Formenton - during the 2018 World Junior Championships has cast a long, dark shadow over the lives and careers of rising young hockey stars. McLeod, Dube, Hart, Foote, and Formenton were charged with sexual assault last year in connection with an alleged incident that occurred in June 2018. The incident is said to have taken place in a hotel in London, Ontario, after a Hockey Canada gala event to celebrate their gold medal win at the World Junior Championship earlier that year. ALSO READ: Accused Carter Hart claims woman had sex willingly, did not protest Live Events All five players have pleaded not guilty to the charges as the verdict is set to be delivered on July 24 after the trial had officially concluded earlier this month. None of the players are currently on an NHL roster or hold an active contract with any team in the league. Michael McLeod McLeod, once a standout in junior hockey, rose steadily through the ranks after being named captain of the OHL's Mississauga Steelheads. His most notable career milestone came in 2016 when he was selected 12th overall by the New Jersey Devils. McLeod made his NHL debut during the 2019-20 season and quickly gained recognition for his reliable two-way play. Ryan McLeod played a pivotal role in the Devils' 2023 Stanley Cup playoff run, scoring the decisive goal in Game 7 to eliminate the New York Rangers. It marked a highlight in a career-best season for McLeod, who tallied 26 points over 80 games. Following his strong performance, he signed a one-year contract extension with the Devils in July 2023. But his booming career took a U-turn when he was granted indefinite leave of absence from the Devils on January 24, 2024. Few days later London Police Service charged McLeod on two counts of sexual assault. Following his ouster from the NHL, McLeod continued his professional career overseas, signing with Barys Astana in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Later in the 2024-25 season, he made a move to Avangard Omsk, seeking a fresh start amid ongoing legal proceedings. Dillon Dube After an impressive junior career, Dube entered the NHL spotlight when the Calgary Flames selected him 56th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He signed a three-year entry-level contract in March 2017 and was assigned to the Flames' AHL affiliate, the Stockton Heat. Dube made his NHL debut in October 2018 against the Vancouver Canucks. One of his standout moments came during the 2020 Stanley Cup Qualifiers, when he scored in Calgary's 4-0 victory over the Winnipeg Jets. In August 2021, he signed a three-year, $6.9 million extension with the Flames. However, Dube's career took a dramatic turn during the 2023-24 season. In January, the Flames announced that Dube would take an indefinite leave of absence to focus on his mental health. Days later, he was formally charged with one count of sexual assault by the London Police Service in connection with an alleged 2018 incident. Following the charges, the Flames issued a statement saying that they were unaware of any pending legal matters at the time Dube requested leave. Post that, Dube signed a one-year contract on July 1, 2024 with Dinamo Minsk of the Kontinental Hockey League. Carter Hart Once considered one of Canada's most promising young goaltenders, Hart now finds his career at a crossroads after being charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault incident dating back to 2018. Hart, who rose to prominence as a standout netminder for Canada Junior team and later the Philadelphia Flyers, saw his professional trajectory abruptly halted as the investigation unfolded. Prior to the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Hart was widely regarded as one of the top goaltending prospects. The Flyers selected Hart 48th overall in the second round, making him the first goaltender taken in that year's draft. He went on to sign an entry-level contract with the Flyers on October 2, marking the beginning of what was expected to be a promising NHL career. Hart made an impressive NHL debut on December 18, 2018, backstopping the Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings. His early career showed great promise, and in August 2021, he signed a three-year contract extension with the Flyers, carrying an average annual value of $3.979 million. Hart's performance remained solid, including a standout 29-save shutout against the Arizona Coyotes on November 2, 2021. However, that game would ultimately mark the final professional appearance of his career to date. Hart was later charged with one count of sexual assault in connection with the alleged 2018 Hockey Canada incident, a development that abruptly derailed his career. Following the charge, he did not return to the Flyers for the remainder of the season. As his three-year deal expired, Hart became a restricted free agent, but the Flyers chose not to extend a qualifying offer. As a result, he became an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2024, leaving his NHL future - and reputation - uncertain amid ongoing legal proceedings. Cal Foote Foote, an American-born Canadian defenseman, is currently playing in Slovakia for Liptovský Mikuláš. A native of Colorado, Foote was selected 14th overall in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with the team in 2018. Foote made his NHL debut in the 2021 season opener - a 5-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks - and was part of the Lightning squad that went on to win the Stanley Cup that year. After developing within Tampa Bay's system, he earned a full-time NHL role during the 2022-23 season, appearing in 26 regular-season games and registering one goal and two assists. On February 26, 2023, during his third season with the Lightning, Foote was traded to the Nashville Predators along with five future draft picks in exchange for forward Tanner Jeannot. He later had a brief stint with the New Jersey Devils before moving overseas, due to alleged sexual assault charge, to continue his career in the Slovakian league. Once seen as a promising NHL blueliner, Foote's journey has since taken an unexpected turn, compounded by ongoing legal issues related to the 2018 Hockey Canada sexual assault investigation. Alex Formenton Formenton, a dynamic left winger, rose to prominence when he was selected 47th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the second round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Invited to Ottawa's main training camp that same year, Formenton impressed the organization and was soon signed to a three-year entry-level contract. He made his NHL debut on October 7, 2017, becoming the youngest player to appear in a game for the modern Senators franchise. Formenton earned a regular roster spot in the 2018-19 season and scored his first NHL goal in a game against the Arizona Coyotes. Over three seasons with Ottawa, he established himself as a reliable two-way forward, particularly excelling as a penalty killer. His breakout campaign came in 2021-22, when he posted 18 goals and 32 points across 79 games. However, Formenton's NHL career stalled after the Senators declined to re-sign him following that season. Left unsigned, he became ineligible to play in the 2022-23 NHL season. I In December 2022, he signed with Swiss club HC Ambrì-Piotta, though the team later announced his contract would be reviewed pending the outcome of an investigation into the alleged 2018 Hockey Canada sexual assault incident. He later signed a two-month contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta ahead of the 2023-24 season that ended in December 2023. In January 2024, he was officially charged with one count of sexual assault related to the incident. With his hockey future uncertain, Formenton stepped away from the sport entirely in 2025, and began working in construction in his hometown.

AB de Villiers Slams 'Mismanagement' As Gautam Gambhir Restricts Jasprit Bumrah To 3 Tests
On the tour of England, one of the toughest places for the Indian team to win a Test series, the fact that the tourists would have Jasprit Bumrah, arguably the best pacer in the world, available for just three games out of five, is baffling for many. Bumrah, who featured in almost the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) season for the Mumbai Indians, has been allotted just three games against England. India's head coach Gautam Gambhir already made the decision clear, making many wonder why lesser-important games couldn't be removed from Bumrah's schedule to manage his workload. Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers, who also had to manage the workload of Dale Steyn during their active days, isn't onboard with the Indian team management's decision over the call to give Bumrah just three matches on the 5-Test tour. "He is probably the top bowler in the world in all formats right now. So, it's very difficult to decide a way to rest him," De Villiers said on his YouTube channel. "But in my opinion, Test cricket is the ultimate form of the game. And this Test series probably would've been the one, in my opinion, to get him ready for all five Test matches." Citing Steyn's example, De Villiers said that Bumrah should've ideally been rested in lesser-important T20Is and ODIs. "That's what we used to do with Dale (Steyn). Rest him in lesser important T20 and ODI series and get him ready for the big Test series against Australia, England, and India away from home... New Zealand to a certain extent, depending on the rankings at that time," he explained. The former Proteas captain even threw the word 'mismanagement' by the Indian team as he questioned what led to the team taking such a call. "So, I don't know if it was mismanagement or perhaps because he recently got back from injury, sort of saw the IPL as the warmup phase," he said. "Maybe, went to the surgeon, who let him know, 'You can't play the five Test matches.' So, I mean you got to respect that, and at the end of the day, it's up to Team India to sort of manage him well," he added. "It doesn't get bigger than that, guys, except for maybe the WTC final."

Can Kuldeep Yadav dismantle England? India's spin gamble against Bazball in Birmingham
The fearless English Test side has rewritten the rules, but at Edgbaston, they face an Indian team desperate to respond after a bruising loss in Leeds. With Jasprit Bumrah likely sidelined, the big question is whether India have the firepower—and the right mix—to strike England steamrolled India in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, several experts criticised the team management for a questionable selection. While the pace trio struggled to support spearhead Bumrah, it was Shardul Thakur who drew the most criticism for his lack of impact after being chosen as the sole medium pace-bowling managed scores of 1 and 4 across two innings and claimed just two wickets from 16 overs, conceding runs at an economy rate of 5.56. Numerous pundits have urged the management to bench the seam all-rounder and instead include Kuldeep Yadav, a proven wicket-taking option, in the Playing XI for the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Following the retirement of Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep is now the second-most experienced spinner in the squad and could offer a touch of mystery to England's Bazballers with his variation and dominance over EnglandThe left-arm wrist-spinner has taken 21 wickets in six matches (11 innings) against England at an impressive average of 22.28, including one five-wicket haul. Kuldeep was a key figure in England's only series defeat under the Ben Stokes–Brendon McCullum regime—during their 2024 tour of 30-year-old was instrumental in outfoxing England's hard-hitting batters throughout the series as he amassed 19 wickets from four matches, including a Player of the Match performance in the fifth Test in Dharamsala with match figures of 7/ struggles against Kuldeep are not limited only to Tests, as he has also troubled them in the white-ball formats. The southpaw has eight wickets from three T20Is against the Three Lions at an average of 9.62 with best figures of 5/24. In ODIs, he has 14 scalps from nine matches to his name with best figures of 6/ the air and taken by Jasprit Bumrah!Kuldeep Yadav with the final wicketEnd of the match and series in DharamsalaScorecard | #INDvENG | @IDFCFIRSTBank BCCI (@BCCI) March 9, 2024How have spinners fared at Edgbaston?Kuldeep has had the wood over England across formats, making his case for selection even stronger for the second Test. Moreover, Edgbaston is counted amongst one of the most spin-friendly venues in England as spinners average 34.17 at the ground — the best in the 21st century for any venue in England with a minimum of eight would also like to take some inspiration from his idol Shane Warne, if he indeed gets a chance to feature in the Playing XI, who has ruled the roost every time he's played at Edgbaston. The 'King of spin' has wreaked havoc at the venue, being the most successful spinner with 25 wickets from four matches at an average of 21.76 with three five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket haul to his success indicates how a wrist spinner can use the conditions to the best of his advantage at Edgbaston. Moreover, England's attacking mindset will keep Kuldeep in play throughout the several factors may back Kuldeep's selection, his lack of experience in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) countries doesn't paint a promising picture. With just four matches under his belt away from home, he's had only two appearances outside of Asia, one each in England and Australia, bagged a five-wicket haul during the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2018-19 in Sydney vs Australia. However, Kuldeep didn't have a memorable outing in his only Test in England as he remained wicketless from his nine overs at Lord's in 2018.!R Ashwin Kuldeep YadavFollow the match #TeamIndia | #INDvENG | @ashwinravi99 | @imkuldeep18 | @IDFCFIRSTBank BCCI (@BCCI) March 7, 2024advertisementMisfiring tail to impact the decision? There are a variety of factors which are likely to be taken into consideration before picking him in the XI. India's lower order struggled massively to add crucial runs in both innings of the first Test as the team lost their last seven wickets for 41 runs in the first the second innings, India lost their last six wickets for just 31 runs and failed to extend their lead to post a daunting target for England in the fourth innings. The failure of the lower order culminated in India's loss as they became the first team in the history of the game to lose a Test match after registering five Kuldeep not being a reliable tailender with the bat, it could prove to be a massive gamble for India, given how England have pinch hitters in their lineup right from top to bottom. However, if India have to deflate England, they will also have to reply with an attacking mindset and go for wickets at all costs as runs are not going to dry up even after the tail is best bet to stop the Bazball mayhem could well be the mystery of Kuldeep Yadav.
