. She succeeds Ishan Chatterjee who stepped down from the position in 2024 to join Viacom18-owned JioCinema as chief revenue officer, ending his 13-year long stint at Google.
"As India remains one of YouTube's most vibrant and crucial markets, brimming with creativity and opportunity, I'm delighted to announce that Gunjan Soni has joined YouTube as our new Country Managing Director for India," Gautam Anand, vice president and managing director for YouTube APAC, said in a LinkedIn post.
In her professional experience spanning two decades, Soni has held crucial offices across industries. Before joining YouTube, she was the group CEO of Singapore-based online fashion retailer Zalora. She has also worked with Myntra, Star India and McKinsey and Company in the past.
Soni holds an MBA in Finance from XLRI, Jamshedpur and and Bachelor of Engineering from Bhopal's Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya.
Commenting on new role, Soni said she is looking forward to building on YouTube's foundation, "fostering innovation, and further enhancing the platform's role in helping creators unlock new storytelling opportunities and reach billions of audiences globally".
"There's so much potential to unlock — evolving how creators connect with their audiences, video commerce and shopping, Shorts, Connected TV and helping viewers engage with content, creators and brands they love. I'm excited to explore innovative formats and video commerce, in ways that feel intuitive and natural," Soni said on her appointment.
