Foreign investment drives job growth and confidence in Wales
Wales secured 65 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in 2024-25, according to new data from the Department for Business and Trade.
That is up 23 per cent on the previous year and the second highest rise of any UK nation or region.
The investments have created 2,470 new jobs, marking a 30 per cent increase from 2023-24.
Halton Flamgard, which is part of the Finish Halton Group, has relocated to the recently completed RYB1 unit in Ebbw Vale following an £8.9 million investment by Welsh Government in the low carbon facility.
Part of a planned expansion, it will see employee numbers at the company go from 70 to 168 by 2028.
Rebecca Evans, cabinet secretary for economy, energy and planning, said: "Despite political and economic factors impacting growth globally, Wales has again seen a significant increase in foreign investment.
"There has been a large increase in jobs created through FDI in 2024-25 and the continuing growth of 'new' investment into Wales has reached a nine-year high.
"This is proof that our proactive approach to promoting Wales globally as a great place to do business is delivering.
"From Delhi to San Diego we have further raised the profile of Wales as an outstanding investment destination with key sectors that boast world-class capabilities."
A total of 1,652 jobs were also safeguarded through foreign investment—the highest number recorded across the UK.
The Welsh Government supports investors by promoting the country's core strengths at industry events and providing guidance on locations, workforce, business networks, and academic links.
First Minister Eluned Morgan said: "Creating high quality jobs in key sectors is a priority for this government, and attracting overseas investment is a key part of our economic strategy.
"We are focused as a government on economic growth, and these figures highlight the confidence investors are showing in the Welsh economy.
"Our International Investment Summit later this year will provide a further opportunity to showcase Wales to the world and attract even more investment into Wales."

"When Ansh decided to close, we got in touch with the landlords and decided to take it over." The restaurant's menu consists of seven different burgers, along with loaded fries and sides, and has gained a great reputation for the quality of its food. We tried it ourselves. It has been visited by professional competitive eaters at its Port Talbot restaurant, including Randy Santel, Katina Eats Kilos, Joel Hansen (modelvsfood) and Leah Shutkever. Mr Sadlos added: "We are going to be serving the same menu that people are used to, and we are actually working on developing a little prep kitchen where we can bring in some smoked meats and some more American-style barbecue items. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer warns of 'backroom stitch up' between parties in Wales
The prime minister has warned of a "backroom stitch up" between the Conservatives, Reform UK and Plaid Cymru ahead of next year's Senedd elections. Sir Keir Starmer addresses Welsh Labour's annual conference in Llandudno, North Wales, on Saturday. Voters will head to the polls next May to choose their representatives in Cardiff Bay and recent polls suggest Labour is in third place, behind Reform and Plaid. Labour has been the largest party at every Senedd election since devolution began in 1999. It is understood he will say such a deal would mark a "return to the chaos and division of the last decade". But opposition parties have hit back at the prime minister's "imaginary coalitions", with Plaid Cymru accusing Labour of "scraping the barrel". 2:59 Sir Keir told members how the two Labour governments in Westminster and Cardiff are "working together for the people of Wales". At next year's Senedd election, 96 members will be elected to the Welsh parliament for the first time - an increase of more than a third - under a more proportional voting system. It comes after Ms Morgan set out the "red Welsh way" in a landmark speech last month, seemingly deviating from the Westminster party, and calling for more "respect" for devolution and a "fair deal" for Wales. The prime minister's pitch to the people of Wales comes as the UK government announces legal protections for military personnel, their families and for veterans as the country marks Armed Forces Day. Further details are set to be outlined in due course, but the government says they could include more travel benefits or flexible working arrangements for partners of serving personnel. After a week in which the amid a mounting rebellion, the party is expected to make a number of announcements for Wales. The Prime Minister says he has 'every confidence in the First Minister and Welsh Labour' ahead of next year's Senedd election. Sir Keir Starmer was speaking to ITV Cymru Wales on a visit to RAF Valley on Anglesey. He'll also speak to Welsh Labour members at the party's conference in Llandudno today. In her speech to the conference, Eluned Morgan is expected to underline how difficult next year will be, saying that 'The next Senedd election won't be a routine affair. It will be a moment of reckoning. "Reform are rising. Plaid are mobilising. And across the country, people are asking big, serious questions about the kind of future they want for Wales.' The most recent Barn Cymru poll for ITV Wales and Cardiff University suggests that Labour could come third behind Plaid Cymru and Reform UK. Starmer to warn of 'backroom stitch-up' in Welsh elections I asked Keir Starmer if he was worried that Labour might lose Wales after more than a quarter of a century in power and a century dominating Welsh politics. He said that 'I have every confidence in the First Minister and Welsh Labour. They have delivered over many years for Wales and we have the added advantage now that, with a Labour government in Westminster, working hand in hand with the Welsh Government we are able to deliver... ...just to give some examples, the biggest settlement in the budget since devolution, hugely important under the spending review; much more money into transport in Wales; money for coal tips; money into the energy sector; supporting through the defence spend the 6,000 or so jobs in Wales. I asked him why it had taken that threat to force him to act and not earlier calls for a rethink from the First Minister. He said, 'I think that's the opposite of what you've just put to me because, true it is that the First Minister raised issues with me; we've been engaging with her and others. And look, for me, some of these things are common sense. "I want to get this right. I want the package right and therefore we've had a discussion with the First Minister and others as a result of which we've changed the package and that means that we can deliver the overall reform that we need now. 'In politics sometimes people pretend it's much more complicated than it is. It's common sense to hold a proposition up to the light and make sure it's the right package. We've done that now, we've adjusted the package, I'm pleased that we've gone through that exercise and now we can get on with delivery.' In her conference speech, Eluned Morgan, is expected to say that the 'moment of reckoning' created by the pressures from Plaid Cymru and Reform UK will mean that Labour needs to work together. She's expected to say, 'This is not a moment to look away. This is the moment to look forward - a moment of maximum opportunity and, yes, also of serious threat. It's time to stand up. It's time to get involved. 'Now, for the first time in a generation, we have two Labour governments - in Cardiff and Westminster - working together, pulling in the same direction. 'Reform don't want to protect the NHS - they want to dismantle it. Rip it up and replace it with an insurance system. Privatised. Profit-driven. Out of reach for the people who need it most. Because in their world, your health depends on your wealth. 'They point to problems. We are the party of answers - not the party of excuses. Not the party of fear. But make no mistake - they are a threat. To your NHS. To your rights. To our Welsh way of life.' Meanwhile, the Welsh Secretary Jo Stevens will announce a new £11 million fund for businesses in Port Talbot and the surrounding area s. She's expected to tell the conference that the 'Economic Growth and Investment Fund' wil support companies that take on workers in that region. Away from politics, perhaps the most difficult question of all, knowing that the Prime Minister is a big football fan and a supporter of England, is who would he support in the Euros, Wales or England? 'The third game is England versus Wales. I went to see the Lionesses and we discussed that very fixture. I'm afraid I'm going to have to say this: good luck to Wales in every game other than when they play England because I'm an England fan and I will be supporting England on that occasion. "But for all other games the best of luck [to Wales] - it'll be a great game and the Lionesses know that that is going to be a really important game in the group and I've talked it through with them and their preparation for it.'
