Wife of fallen FRU officer says she forgives lorry driver
Norazian Mohd Joned, 38, said she does not blame the driver, believing that the incident was fated.
"I forgive the lorry driver, as the incident might be 'asbab' (fated).
"Maybe it was just the way it was meant to happen. It was merely the cause for his passing," said Norazian, with tears streaming down her cheeks.
She said this during the visit by National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) chief operating officer Mastura Mohd Khalid as part of their Ziarah Kasih programme held at her home here on Saturday (May 18).
During the 8.50am incident on May 13, a gravel-laden lorry had crashed into an FRU truck on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, which was on its way back to base in Sungai Senam in Ipoh.
Kpl Amiruddin was among nine FRU members who were killed in the accident, while nine others were injured.
Norazian, who works as an administrative assistant at the Kampar police station, said Kpl Amiruddin had once spoken about the honour of dying in service.
"He once spoke about a case involving firemen who drowned while trying to save others.
"He said the firemen died honourably and the entire country had prayed for them. Maybe he had a similar wish in his heart," she said, adding that it still felt surreal with her husband being no longer around.
"There was also a case recently where a man died in front of a mosque right after Friday prayers and my husband said if God has determined your time, not even a minute will be delayed.
"Everything else is just the means. Maybe this lorry was just the means for the nine of them to go, it was already fated," she added.
Mastura said that the late Kpl Amiruddin was a Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (SSPN) Prime depositor, having opened an account on May 7 this year.
"He had sufficient savings to qualify for takaful benefits.
"The family will receive RM1,000 in takaful protection and RM3,000 in death benefit, and in total RM4,000," she said.
"Although no amount of money could replace a lost loved one, we hope this contribution and insurance benefit will help lessen the family's financial burden and support their children's educational future," she added.

RM500 aid disbursed to UiTM Sabah students under PTPTN scheme
KOTA KINABALU: A total of 159 needy students of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sabah received one-off financial aid of RM500 each to ease their financial burden. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir (pic) said the RM79,500 allocation was disbursed under the ministry's PTPTN Madani Education Assistance Programme. 'This initiative is to ensure that all eligible students have access to quality education regardless of financial background, in line with the ministry and PTPTN's commitment to enhancing higher education in the country. 'The aid reflects our concern for students needing financial support to pursue their dreams,' he said during the presentation ceremony held at the university yesterday, Bernama reported. Zambry said the financial aid was contributed by various parties through PTPTN. He also urged parents to open National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) accounts for their children's future education needs. 'Parents can open an account as soon as the child is born and start saving gradually. Over time, the amount will grow and can later be used to fund higher education,' he said. PTPTN, in a statement issued following the event, said that since the education assistance programme's introduction in 2022, a total of RM981,000 had been disbursed to benefit 1,962 students across 16 public universities.

Single mother uses daughter's PTPTN loan for survival in Dungun
DUNGUN: A single mother facing severe financial hardship has turned to her daughter's National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan to afford basic necessities. Zailawati Ismail, 41, from Felda Jerangau, shared her struggles after her husband died two years ago in a workplace accident. With chronic endometriosis limiting her ability to work, Zailawati depends on the PTPTN loan taken by her eldest daughter, Nur Aina Najiha Ramli, 19, a private college student in Kuantan. The funds help cover food, transport to medical appointments, and daily essentials. 'I can't do heavy work due to my condition. We often eat just rice with soy sauce because we can't afford more,' she said. The family survives on RM400 monthly aid from the Social Welfare Department, which falls short of their needs. Her 16-year-old son, Mohd Aiman Haikal, helps by doing odd jobs after school. Recently, her youngest daughter, Nur Alia Batrisya, 12, broke her leg in a netball accident, adding to their struggles. Those wishing to assist can contact Zailawati at 013-9332122. - Bernama
