'India must set clear AI rules, promote local content': Ashwini Vaishnaw
Chairing the Global Media Dialogue at the World Audio, Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai, he stressed the importance of local content production, and collaboration between the government, industry and creators for greater focus on local stories.
'As a government, we must provide a fair chance for everyone to showcase their story to the world. We must incentivise local content promotion and enforce IP framework among other things,' Vaishnaw said.
The session was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Minister of State for I&B L Murugan.
The minister also underlined the need for policies that preserve and promote all cultural forms as they connect people across borders. 'Focus is shifting towards local stories. We aim to build people-to-people and country-to-country exchanges. Tie-ups with government, industry and creators have, therefore, become indispensable,' Vaishnaw said. He further called for practical measures such as co-production treaties to ease licensing and talent movement, the creation of joint funds for emerging technologies, and the establishment of shared standards, and clear rules for ethical AI.
WAVES summit
The WAVES summit is taking place from May 1-4. The summit aims to boost India's media and entertainment industry by fostering international collaborations, investments, and content co-creation opportunities. On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the summit at the Jio World Convention Centre, stating that the event showcases a 'true wave of culture, creativity, and universal connection'.
'In the coming years, the creative economy can increase its contribution to India's GDP...Today, India is emerging as a global hub for film production, digital content, gaming, fashion, music and live concerts...This is the dawn of the Orange Economy in India,' PM Modi said.

Bullet Train Project completion date REVEALED The operations of the much-awaited bullet train will commence soon in the country. According to the latest reports, the work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed bullet train is progressing rapidly with Japan's assistance. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has finally revealed the expected completion date for the project. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the bullet train corridor between Vapi and Sabarmati will be completed by December 2027. The minister further added that the entire project from Maharashtra to the Sabarmati section is expected to be completed by December 2029. The high-speed rail project covering 508 kilometers between Ahmedabad and Mumbai is likely to be completed by December 2029.

Passenger coaches upgradation in Kashmir Valley to be completed by Aug 31: Centre
Advt Advt New Delhi: The upgradation works of passenger coaches in the Kashmir Valley will be completed by August 31 and all rakes in service will be renovated and upgraded within this timeframe, the Indian Railways said on the opening of Jammu-Srinagar rail line and the ongoing upgradation works, it will provide a new lifeline to Jammu and Kashmir, the Ministry of Railways said in a Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link project with Chenab and Anji bridges on June 6, 2025. It is a historic milestone in establishing connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and Bharat Express train between Katra and Srinagar has become an important mode of transportation on this the opening of Jammu-Srinagar rail link, there was no rail connectivity of Kashmir valley with the rest of the Indian Railway network. The DEMU/MEMU rakes in Kashmir valley could not be brought to the workshop for periodic maintenance and upgradation."Over and above the new train services, opening of this line has made a fundamental change in the ability to maintain rail tracks in Kashmir valley. The railway link has enabled movement of track maintenance machines to the Kashmir valley. Maintenance is now being done with modern machines, unlike manual maintenance earlier. This is leading to significant improvement in track quality," the ministry are being upgraded across the country. By early 2025, 78 per cent of India's tracks have been upgraded to 110 kmph or more. This number was just 39 per cent in 2014."This higher proportion should be seen in light of the rise in the total length of tracks in the last decade. Total length of tracks has increased to over 1 lakh km in 2025 from 79,342 km in 2014," the ministry noted."We will improve the track quality by significantly upgrading the track technology and maintenance practices. Modern track fittings, usage of track machines, ultra sound fracture detection machines, road cum rail vehicles, and integrated track measurement machines will make our track maintenance scientific," said Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw."AI will be extensively used in detecting defects. These technological changes will substantially improve the working conditions for track maintenance staff," he added.-IANSna/

IRCTC received 6,645 complaints related to food quality in 2024-25
New Delhi: In 2024-25, 6,645 complaints related to poor quality of food were reported by passengers, out of which in 1,341 cases fines were imposed on the food suppliers, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. Of the total, in 2,995 cases warnings were issued, in 1,547 cases suitable advisories were given and other measures were taken in the remaining 762 cases, Vaishnaw said in the reply. CPI(M) MP John Brittas raised the issues of food quality in trains and transparency in the award of contracts to companies. When asked to provide details regarding instances of seizure of unhygienic food items from the railway caterers as well as complaints filed by passengers regarding the quality and safety of food served on trains in the last five years, the Railway Minister presented the data in a tabular form. Vaishnaw said, 'Prompt and appropriate punitive action, including imposition of fines, disciplinary action, counselling, warning etc., is taken in case any instance of adulterated/unhygienic food or passenger complaint is reported.' According to the data, in 2023-24, 2022-23, and 2021-22, the number of complaints received from passengers was 7,026, 4,421, and 1,082, respectively. Brittas asked 'whether Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) awarded contracts across multiple railway routes, including Vande Bharat and other long-distance services, to a corporate group using multiple affiliate entities.' In his reply, the Union minister said that the IRCTC regularly floats tenders to select service providers for the provision of onboard catering services in trains, including Vande Bharat and other long-distance trains. 'These tenders are awarded through a transparent process to the highest bidders as per the terms and conditions stipulated in the tender documents. The details of Letters of Award (LOA), issued to multiple service providers, are published on the website of IRCTC. At present, contracts of clusters of trains have been awarded by IRCTC to 20 entities,' Vaishnaw said. He provided various measures taken to maintain food quality, such as the supply of meals from designated Base Kitchens, commissioning of modern Base Kitchens at identified locations, Installation of CCTV Cameras in Base Kitchens, shortlisting and use of popular and branded raw materials, deployment of Food Safety Supervisors at Base Kitchens to monitor food safety and hygienic practices among others.
