Iraq's FM urges emergency Arab League meeting over Iran-Israel conflict
Shafaq News/ Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on Wednesday called for an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers amid escalating regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
According to a statement from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hussein made the call during a phone conversation with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty.
The two diplomats discussed the latest regional developments, 'particularly the recent shifts in the ongoing war against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its implications for regional security and stability,' the statement said.
Hussein, who currently presides over the Arab League summit cycle, proposed holding the emergency meeting on the sidelines of the upcoming session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), set to take place in Istanbul early next week.
The minister stressed that the purpose of the meeting is to 'coordinate Arab positions in light of accelerating events and face the current challenges in a spirit of collective and responsible engagement.'

Shafaq News – Najaf/Tehran Iran rejects prospects for renewed nuclear negotiations with the United States, the country's consul in Najaf said on Monday. Shafaq News – Tehran/ Paris Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for what he described as biased reporting on Iran's nuclear file and failure to condemn recent attacks on its nuclear facilities, calling the agency's approach a threat to regional and global security. Speaking during a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, Pezeshkian questioned why Israel, which is not a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), should serve as a source for IAEA reporting. 'Such double standards create serious challenges for regional and international security,' he said, urging the agency to uphold the rights of member states and refrain from discriminatory behavior. Pezeshkian expressed dissatisfaction with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi's latest reports and his silence regarding recent Israeli and US attacks on Iran's nuclear sites, describing these actions as violations of international law that were either ignored or justified by international actors, including human rights advocates. Russia warns: NATO spending will fracture alliance
