"Disrespect to Dalit leader": BJP's Poonawalla slams Congress on Kharge's remark

'Mallikarjun Kharge just revealed the open secret that he is the Congress National President, but he does not have power. He holds the post, but it is the family that is heard. He exposed that all the major decisions are taken by the party's high command, not the party's National President. Just like Manmohan Singh was a remote control Prime Minister with (Gandhi) family being the power centre...Kharge also finds himself in a similar situation...This also shows that they are disrespecting a Dalit leader,' Poonwalla told ANI.
His remarks come after Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge broke his silence amid the speculation of a possible change in Karnataka Congress leadership. Kharge said that the decision to change the Chief Minister was in the hands of the party high command.
'It is in the hands of the party high command. No one can say what is going on in the high command. It is left to the high command, and they have the right to take further action, but no one should create problems unnecessarily,' Kharge said.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today attempted to cap speculation on possible leadership change in the State, asserting that his priority remains to help partymen win the Assembly elections.
'There is no change of leadership. I don't want anyone's support. My priority is for them (the party legislators) to win back the assembly elections,' Shivakumar told ANI.
Reiterating that Congress General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala's meeting with party MLAs today was not on the subject of changing leadership in Karnataka, the Deputy Chief Minister clarified that there were no groups in Congress and everyone stood united. He said that Congress would instead focus on the upcoming elections in the state.
'I don't want any recommendation from party legislators. My duty is to keep the party alive, give more strength to the discipline of the party. We have to concentrate on local body elections and the 2028 assembly elections...This exercise is not for a change. I am not for a change. There are no groups in the Congress party, we are united,' Shivakumar said.
He warned the Congress MLAs pushing for a change in the party's state leadership that action will be taken against them if they continue to 'speak more' over this issue. (ANI)

Virginia has officially enacted the House Bill 2783 which distinguished between 'Hakenkreuz' the German word for 'Hooked Cross' and the sacred symbol of Swastika revered by many religions. 'The nuance in this law was the result of a united grassroots campaign from community leaders and Viriginia residents, alarmed at the terms of the original bill which had threatened prison terms for displaying a symbol that is almost ubiquitous in our temples and houses. This is the power of advocacy,' said ConHNA through a post on X. 'We are pleased to see how Virginia is tackling growing hate while being sensitive to minority groups that revere the Swastika', said the president of CoHNA. 'Now the need of the hour is for the media, law enforcement, and educational institutions in Virginia to update their language to reflect this critical nuance and ensure fair treatment for all,' he added. Initially, the bill had incorrectly equated the Nazi symbol to the Swastika, as per CoHNA. Despite concerns, the bill passed unanimously in the Virginia House of Delegates with a 97-0 vote. The billll also explicitly defines 'Nazi Swastika' is not the 'same as symbol of peace and prosperity used by Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, or Native American religions.' 'By explicitly delineating the legal status of the Swastika, the statute not only condemns and prohibits its misuse as a symbol of hatred, but also affirms and honors its sacred meaning within Hinduism and other Dharmic traditions. In doing so, the Commonwealth of Virginia sets a precedent for a more informed, respectful, and inclusive civic discourse', said Srilekha Palle a member of the Board of Directors at the American Hindu Coalition.

Sanjeev Arora to be inducted into Punjab Cabinet Thursday
Newly elected Ludhiana West MLA Sanjeev Arora will take oath as minister in Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's cabinet on Thursday, it is learnt. Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Arora at 1 pm in a brief ceremony at the Raj Bhawan. AAP leader and industrialist, Arora, resigned from the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. He submitted his resignation to Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, who accepted it. Arora, a first-time MP, was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab on April 10, 2022, and his tenure was to end on April 9, 2028. With his induction into the Cabinet, Mann will have 17 ministers, including himself. As per rules, Mann can have 18 ministers, including himself, but he is likely to keep a berth vacant. In the run-up to the by-election, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal had announced that Arora would be made a minister after his victory. Sources said the party wanted to fill all Cabinet berths, but with the by-election necessitated in Taran Tarn after the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal last week, the party decided to fill only one seat and leave another vacant. 'A Cabinet berth has been kept vacant so that the party can promise the electorates of Tarn Taran that if they elect the AAP candidate, their representative will be inducted into the Cabinet,' a party leader said. Arora was sworn in as the Ludhiana West MLA on last Friday, but his induction is taking place a week later as the Governor was away in Udaipur for a couple of days. Kataria returned to Chandigarh on Wednesday. Arora secured a decisive victory in the recently concluded by-election, defeating Congress's heavyweight Bharat Bhushan Ashu by 10,637 votes, helping the AAP to tighten its grip over the urban Ludhiana West Assembly constituency, where a bypoll was necessitated after the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Singh Gogi. Arora secured 35,179 votes, increasing AAP's vote share to 39.02%, an upswing of more than 4% over the party's 2022 performance. Before entering politics, Arora was a well-known businessman and philanthropist. He heads Ritesh Industries Ltd, a textile export firm, and Hampton Sky Realty Ltd. He also founded Femella Fashions, a women's apparel brand, and Teneron Ltd, a manufacturing unit supplying non-ferrous alloys to firms like Suzuki. In 2005, he established the Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Charitable Trust in memory of his parents, both of whom succumbed to cancer. The trust has since supported hundreds of patients. Arora also contributed extensively to Covid-19 relief efforts and medical institutions like Dayanand Medical College. Sources said owing to his interest in the field of healthcare, he may be handed the Department of Health, a portfolio held by Dr Balbir Singh.
