New ‘South Park' Episodes to Debut in July After 2-Year Break
Wednesday's new clip starts with a series of dramatic live-action images, including an empty swing and the wing of an airplane. 'The acclaimed drama returns,' white text against a red background reads. The teaser then immediately jumps to Randy asking his daughter Shelly if she's been taking ketamine.
'Because I think it could really help you,' he adds. And with that, 'South Park' Season 27 is off.
The rest of the teaser cycles through images of South Park on fire, Butters panicking as he tries to stop planes from repeatedly crashing into each other, Canadians pulling down the Statue of Liberty, the boys flying through what appears to be space alongside Diddy and Randy cheerfully telling his wife Sharon he's going to do some ketamine 'and f–k around with the government a little.'
The video then ends with a creepy, slowed down version of 'Blame Canada,' one of the fan-favorite songs from 1999's 'South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.' Check out the teaser, below:
The time between Seasons 26 and 27 currently stands as the longest break the show has ever faced. Since 1997, 'South Park' has consistently released a new season every year. But the last time the series proper released a new season was in February of 2023. Three 'South Park' specials did air later in 2023 and in 2024 — 'South Park: Joining the Panderverse,' 'South Park (Not Suitable for Children)' and 'South Park: The End of Obesity.' But because those are Paramount+ exclusives that are typically 45 minutes to an hour long, those are a bit different.
Still, this yearlong gap was intentional. After heavily covering the first Trump election and administration through Mr. Garrison, Parker and Stone said that they would not be releasing new episodes in 2024 in an effort to avoid covering yet another election.
'We've tried to do 'South Park' through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing — it's such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance,' Stone said in September.
Now known as one of the most recognizable series of all time, Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny first appeared in Stone and Parker's 'The Spirit of Christmas' animated short. The pair currently serves as executive producers on the series along with Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone II. Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell and Vernon Chatman are producers. Christopher Brion is the creative director of South Park Digital Studios.

Stephen Colbert Issues Donald Trump Warning On Late Show
Last week, people everywhere were shocked to hear that CBS had made the decision to cancel The Late Show, hosted by Stephen Colbert, and that the final episode will air in May 2026. The network insisted that the reason they were bringing the long-running show to an end is due to 'financial decisions.' However, there is rampant speculation that it is actually a result of President Donald Trump's personal dislike for the show and Stephen. In fact, multiple CBS staffers told the Independent that they think the decision was made as part of the 'Trump shakedown' that began with the network's parent company Paramount's $16 million settlement with Trump over Kamala Harris's appearance on 60 Minutes, which he claimed was 'election interference.'Interestingly, Stephen's abrupt announcement about his show being cancelled came just days after he'd criticized this settlement on the show, calling it a 'big, fat bribe.' Needless to say, the whole situation has been met with uproar from big name celebrities as well as viewers, with Jimmy Kimmel leading the charge against CBS when he posted: 'Love you, Stephen. Fuck you and all your Sheldons, CBS,' seemingly referring to the network's many Big Bang Theory spin-offs about the character Sheldon. Trump, however, had quite the opposite reaction. After the news broke, he took to Truth Social to laud CBS for the decision, writing: 'I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.' 'I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next,' Trump went on. 'Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.'And Stephen hit back at the president with a simple three-word response when he returned to air for Monday's episode of The Late Show. Responding to the post, Stephen said: 'How dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?' an onscreen frame then appeared around the host, captioned 'Eloquence Cam.' Stephen looked directly into the camera and pointedly said: 'Go fuck yourself.' He then referenced Trump's comment about Jimmy Kimmel, saying: 'Nope, no, no. Absolutely not. Kimmel, I am the martyr — there's only room for one on this cross!" Stephen vowed to spend the last season of his show speaking 'unvarnished truth to power,' telling viewers: 'Over the weekend, it sunk in that they're killing off our show, but they made one mistake: They left me alive. And now, for the next 10 months, the gloves are off.' "I can finally speak unvarnished truth to power and say what I really think about Donald Trump, starting right now,' he went on. 'I don't care for him. Doesn't have the skillset to be president. Not a good fit, that's all.'He also questioned CBS's insistence that the cancellation is simply due to the network's finances, asking: 'How could it be purely be a financial decision if The Late Show is number one in ratings?'Stephen was supported by his celebrity friends on Monday's show, with fellow late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Andy Cohen, John Oliver, Anderson Cooper, and Jon Stewart joining him for the episode. And later on, Stephen spoofed the recent viral Coldplay jumbotron video by having "Weird Al" Yankovic and Lin-Manuel Miranda perform Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida' as celebrity pairings were shown on screen. It then cut to an animation of Trump embracing the Paramount logo before panicking and sheepishly diving to the floor when he realized they were on screen. "Guys, stop!" Stephen then shouted. "I'm sorry, I just got this note from corporate... Your song has been cancelled... It says here it's a purely financial decision." Also on Monday, Jon Stewart lashed out at Paramount for the cancellation over on his show, the Daily Show, which airs under the same parent company. He said: 'I understand the corporate fear. I understand the fear that you and your advertisers have with $8 billion at stake, but understand this, truly, the shows you now seek to cancel, censor, and control, a not insignificant portion of that $8 billion value came from these fucking shows. That's what made you that money." 'Shows that say something, shows that take a stand, shows that are unafraid. Believe me, this is not a 'We speak truth to power.' We don't. We speak opinions to television cameras, but we try. We fucking try, every night,' Jon went on. 'If you believe as corporations or as networks you can make yourselves so innocuous that you can serve a gruel so flavorless that you will never again be on the boy king's radar. Why will anyone watch you? You are fucking wrong.""If you're trying to figure out why Stephen's show is ending, I don't think the answer can be found in some smoking gun email or phone call from Trump to CBS executives or in CBS' QuickBooks spreadsheets on the financial health of late night,' he continued. "I think the answer is in the fear and pre-compliance that is gripping all of America's institutions at this very moment, institutions that have chosen not to fight the vengeful and vindictive actions of our pubic hair drooling Commander in Chief. This is not the moment to give in. I'm not giving in, I'm not going anywhere, I think."Jon then echoed Stephen's own monologue, concluding: "If you're afraid and you protect your bottom line, I've got but one thing to say: 'Go fuck yourself.'" Colbert skewers CBS, Paramount over decision to cancel ‘Late Show'
Late night host Stephen Colbert tore into his own network and its parent company, Paramount Global, over a decision to end 'The Late Show,' a move CBS said last week is a financially necessary one but is sparking widespread criticism. Colbert acknowledged his show's cancellation late Monday, thanking friends and colleagues in the television business he said have reached out after the news was announced last week and saying the network made 'one key mistake' when it decided to end his program: 'They left me alive.' Colbert accused CBS of leaking financial figures to the press, alleging his show was losing upwards of $40 million a year as a justification for axing the 'Late Show' franchise. Colbert quipped 40 million 'is a big number.' 'I could see us losing $24 million,' he added. 'But where could Paramount possibly have spent the other $16 million … oh wait.' The comedian was referring to a settlemen t Paramount agreed to pay President Trump earlier this month to quell a lawsuit the president filed against CBS over a '60 Minutes' interview with former vice president Kamala Harris last year. The settlement and Colbert's cancellation come as Paramount is working to secure a multi-billion-dollar merger with fellow entertainment giant Skydance, a transaction that will need approval from Trump's government regulators. Democrats and press freedom advocates have said Paramount's recent moves are a clear capitulation to Trump's executive power to serve its business interest, while Colbert himself called out the media conglomerate last week, saying it had paid the president a 'big fat bribe.' Colbert on Monday noted Trump celebrated his cancellation in a Truth Social post, with the president writing he 'loves' the fact the host got canceled and saying he has no talent. 'How dare you sir,' Colbert responded. 'Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism: 'Go f— yourself.'' Monday's 'Late Show' also featured brief cameos from Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Jon Oliver and Jon Stewart, who earlier on Monday evening defended Colbert on his Comedy Central program. But that's just one of the romances we have seen unfolded on the Franchise over the years. For this week's Trek Tuesday , we're exploring four Star Trek romances. Did we include your favorite? Riker (Jonathan Frakes) is one of the most famous and popular romances from the Star Trek Franchise, and with good reason. This romance was first introduced in the very first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, 'Encounter at Farpoint.' In that episode, it was established that Troi and Riker had been in a relationship that had concluded before The Next Generation even began. However, from the very first shared psychic communication, it was clear that a connection still existed between the pair. As the series continues, many episodes hint that the romance between the two has not come to a conclusion. Just one example is The Next Generation Season 3's 'Ménage à Troi,' which even shows the pair sharing an onscreen kiss. RELATED: Trek Two Takes: Is it 'I do' or 'I, Q'? But eventually, Riker and Troi's romance reaches a more stable situation. In 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis, the couple's wedding served as a key set piece. Not only was the entire U.S.S. Enterprise-D/U.S.S. Enterprise-E bridge crew present, but even Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) showed up for the proceedings. And in Star Trek: Picard Season 1 and Season 2, as well as Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 1, it is confirmed that Troi and Riker's relationship persists decades into the future. On Star Trek: Discovery, Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz) and Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) are a couple whose love story has more than a few wrinkles. They are married when they first appeared in Discovery Season 1. But their relationship ran into trouble when Culber is murdered by Ash Tyler (Shazad Latif). However, that was not the end of the romance between Stamets and Culber. You do know about the Black Mountain, right? In Discovery Season 2, Stamets found Culber alive in the mycelial network while rescuing Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), in the episode 'Saints of Imperfection.' This allowed Culber to return to the land of the living. RELATED: Star Trek: 8 Visitors to the Black Mountain At first, Culber and Stamets found their relationship on rocky ground. At one point, Culber intended to transfer away from the U.S.S. Discovery and into service on the U.S.S. Enterprise. But he eventually determined that his place was on Discovery alongside his husband. As the series progressed, Stamets and Culber's relationship remained in a stable situation. On many occasions, the couple can be seen offering support and reassurance to one another. Sisko & Yates When Star Trek: Deep Space Nine begins, Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) is still mourning his late first wife, Jennifer (Felecia M. Bell). But as the series continued, he began to emotionally heal. His son Jake (Cirroc Lofton) subsequently introduced Benjamin to Kasidy Yates (Penny Johnson). Yates was a cargo pilot who regularly made stopovers at Deep Space 9. Sisko and Yates shared an interest in baseball, and the couple bonded over their enthusiasm. Eventually, Yates took a job working for the Bajorians, allowing her to live on the space station full time. RELATED: Book Review: The Autobiography of Benjamin Sisko However, Sisko and Yates' relationship ran into trouble when he discovered that she was smuggling cargo for the Maquis. Yates was subsequently sent to prison, and her relationship with Sisko seemed to have concluded. But Yates was subsequently released and returned to work for the Bajorians. This gave Sisko the opportunity to apologize to her for their breakup. The couple was reunited, and eventually, Sisko proposed. After the couple was married, Yates unexpectedly became pregnant. While Yates has yet to have the child when Deep Space Nine concludes, their daughter has appeared in several expanded universe stories. Jariner Photo Credit: Paramount+ On Star Trek: Lower Decks, Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) initially has an antagonistic relationship with Jennifer 'Jen' Sh'reyan (Lauren Lapkus). But in the second season finale, Mariner finally admits to Jen that when she likes someone, she's prone to making fun of them. Soon, a relationship has kindled between the pair. As Lower Decks Season 3 continues, it becomes more serious. In 'Hear All, Trust Nothing,' Jen even asks Mariner to accompany her to the 'Salon' being held by Jen's friend, Castro (Gabrielle Ruiz). While the event does end with Jen and Mariner stunning everyone there (including themselves), they nevertheless have a fun time. RELATED: Star Trek: Lower Decks : 7 Non-Franchise References But in the penultimate episode of Lower Decks Season 3, 'Trusted Sources,' Jen breaks up with Mariner as Mariner is transferred to Starbase 80. In the Season 3 finale, 'The Stars At Night,' it seems as though Jen is open to a reunion. However, Mariner ignores her. In the Lower Decks Season 5 episode 'The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel,' Jen gets her revenge. Assigned to an away mission with Mariner, Jen pretends she doesn't realize that Mariner had broken up with her. Eventually, this forces Mariner to admit that she never had a proper conversation with Jen about the end of their relationship. However, Jen's subterfuge sets the stage for them to clear the air. At the conclusion of the relationship, Jen and Mariner part ways as friends. These Star Trek episodes are currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
