Akhilesh attends blood donation camp on b'day-eve
Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday visited the King George's Medical University (KGMU) here on the eve of his birthday and attended a blood donation camp organised by party workers belonging to the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) members.
Yadav was born on July 1, 1973 in Saifai, Etawah and is presently an SP MP from Kannauj.
Extending his gratitude to the PDA workers, Yadav said, 'I thank and express my appreciation to all our dedicated PDA family workers participating in today's blood donation camp.'
Highlighting the aim of the PDA initiative, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said it is a movement to unite all sections of society that are 'suffering, oppressed, troubled and insulted'.
In a scathing attack on the BJP-led government on the economy front, Yadav alleged that there is an 'undeclared emergency' in trade and industry.
'They (BJP) are selling things (institutions and establishments) at throwaway rates to their men. According to news reports, a major institution is also on the verge of being sold. If trade and industry grow, the lives of common people will change and employment will rise,' he said.
Referring to KGMU, he said it is not only a premier institute of the country but also one of global repute.
'When the Samajwadi government comes to power, we will provide every necessary resource to make it the world's best institution and will ensure the poor get proper medical facilities,' he said.
On river pollution, Yadav said, 'Rivers are not cleaned but they are siphoning off the budget. That's why the Gomti is dirty today. It was becoming beautiful in the SP regime but they have ruined it.'
He also announced plans to instal a statue of Veerangana Uda Devi at the Gomti riverfront in Lucknow as amark of respect to the freedom fighter.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Congress MLA Nana Patole was suspended from the state legislative assembly for a day on Tuesday after he climbed the speaker's podium. Soon after the Question Hour, Patole, who is the former assembly speaker, demanded action against BJP MLA Babanrao Lonikar and Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate for "insulting" farmers. He came on the podium and was seen arguing with Speaker Rahul Narwekar. The House was subsequently adjourned for five minutes. When the proceedings reconvened, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis criticised Patole, saying the Congress leader moved aggressively towards the speaker, which is not right and is not expected from him. The speaker then announced that he was suspending Patole from the House for the entire day. Lonkiar recently told a gathering of farmers in his assembly constituency Partur in Jalna district that "people who criticise his party and government should know they are getting clothes, shoes, mobile, monetary benefits of schemes and money for sowing because of us". Kokate had claimed farmers spent loan waiver money on weddings. "One rupee is something even beggars don't accept but the government is giving crop insurance for that sum, which is being misused by some persons," the agriculture minister had said.

Thiruvananthapuram corporation turns into battleground as BJP, LDF trade corruption charges
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With just months left for the Thiruvananthapuram corporation council's term to end, tensions are escalating between the BJP and LDF, as both fronts trade corruption allegations. The corporation's main office has effectively turned into a protest zone, frequently disrupting normal functioning and causing inconvenience to the public. The latest council meeting too was marred by noisy confrontations, with corruption charges dominating the session, leaving little room for meaningful discussion on civic issues. BJP councillors have raised a slew of corruption charges against the ruling LDF, including irregularities in the distribution of laptops for students, the purchase of kitchen bins, and other issues. On the other hand, the LDF has levelled serious accusations against BJP women councillors, including misappropriation of Rs 3 lakh by the Punnakkamughal councillor and bribe collection for distributing application forms for various welfare schemes by the Pappanamcode councillor. On Monday, the corporation's main office witnessed yet another round of protests. A march led by Haritha Karma Sena workers belonging to CITU reached the corporation office, demanding the resignation of the tainted BJP councillors. They also demanded that Haritha Karma Sena workers who were suspended in connection with the incident in the Punnakkamughal ward be reinstated. UDF parliamentary party leader P Padmakumar criticised both the BJP and LDF, stating that the two parties were hurling allegations at each other to divert attention from their own corruption. 'The ruling front has been mired in corruption since it assumed power. Backdoor appointments, anomalies in tax collection, and irregularities in the purchase of kitchen bins and laptops, as well as misappropriation of SC/ST funds, are among the many allegations involving the LDF,' he said. Meanwhile, amidst the allegations against BJP women councillors, the BJP staged a march to the corporation office, highlighting corruption in the LDF-led laptop distribution scheme. 'This LDF-led administration is corrupt and is targeting our councillors to divert attention from their own misdeeds. The allegations against us are baseless. As the Opposition, we don't have access to public funds to misappropriate,' said BJP parliamentary party leader M R Gopan. The LDF has announced plans to intensify protests against BJP councillors accused of corruption at the ward level. LDF parliamentary party leader D R Anil demanded the resignation of the accused councillors. 'The Pappanamcode councillor herself admitted that corruption took place in her ward. This has embarrassed the entire council and betrayed public trust. We will launch a protest to make the public aware of their actions,' he said.

Ramachander Rao to be Telangana BJP chief
HYDERABAD: Former MLC N Ramachander Rao is set to be formally announced as the new president of the Telangana BJP on July 1. His was the only nomination filed, clearing the path for an uncontested elevation to the post. The nomination process, however, was not without drama. Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh, who had aspired to lead the state unit, resigned from the party after the central leadership backed Ramachander Rao. The former MLC submitted three sets of nominations to national election returning officer Shobha Karandlaje and state returning officer Yendala Laxminarayana. Ramachander Rao's appointment has been broadly welcomed within the party. A non-controversial figure, he has been associated with the BJP since his student days with the ABVP. He earlier served as students' union president of Railway College, led the Osmania University ABVP unit, and was the first general secretary of the Yuva Morcha in united Andhra Pradesh. Ramachander Rao has held several roles, including Hyderabad BJP president, chief spokesperson and vice president. A criminal lawyer by profession, he unsuccessfully contested the Malkajgiri seat in both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. He won the 2015 Legislative Council election from the Mahbubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Graduate Constituency, a result credited with reviving the BJP's presence in the region. While his selection has drawn general support, some party members expressed surprise. The BJP had earlier indicated plans to appoint a BC leader. Ramachander Rao, a Brahmin, was therefore seen as an unexpected choice.
