Jamie Lee Curtis Confirms She Will Star in MURDER, SHE WROTE Feature Adaptation That is Officially in the Works — GeekTyrant

Academy Award-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis ( Everything Everywhere All At Once , The Bear ) has confirmed that a film reboot of the classic series Murder, She Wrote is in the works at Universal, and Curtis is set to star. The actress revealed that she's 'a minute away' from taking over the late Angela Lansbury's beloved middle-aged mystery writer and amateur sleuth role, Jessica Fletcher, in a feature adaptation of the CBS series that ran for 12 seasons from 1984 to '96.
'Oh, it's… happening,' Curtis playfully confirmed to Entertainment Tonight. 'We're a minute away, but yeah, [I'm] very excited. Very excited. But I'm tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I'll get to enjoy that work.'
The script was written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, with producers Lord Miller and Amy Pascal.
Lansbury starred from 1984 to 1996 in what became one of the most successful and longest-running shows in TV history. Her Jessica Fletcher was a retired schoolteacher turned successful mystery writer, who proves to have an uncanny knack for solving real-life murders. The show was primarily set in the seaside town of Cabot Cove, Maine, though Jessica often travels to other locales as cases unfold.
I love Curtis, and I think she will be great in this role. Stay tuned for updates.

Barbenheimer's Epic Double Feature Happened 2 Years Ago, And I'm Worried I'll Never Get That Same Experience

Back in 2023, there was a time when it felt as if all was right with the world, and that, my friends, was Barbenheimer. While the 2025 movie schedule has been filled to the brim with great releases, I really don't think we're going to get another time like this, and that worries me. It's been two years. I know, it's hard to believe it, but it has, and it honestly feels like a lifetime at this point. We have had some major releases come out since then, such as the latest Superman, which turned me into a fan. Or we could point to Wicked, which took over the world for a month or two. However, nothing has hit quite as hard as when these two films – Barbie and Oppenheimer – were released simultaneously. And honestly, I don't think we're going to get another instance like this, at least for a long time. Barbenheimer Was Perfectly Timed During The Summer I think a big reason why Barbenheimer was such a success was that both of these releases were planned at the perfect time – right in the middle of summer. I always feel that the most successful blockbusters tend to happen at this point, and it's clear both of these, by their box office amounts, did incredibly well. Barbie earned well over $1 billion, and Oppenheimer came really close to the mark, as did a rated-R movie. However, because many people had a day off or two during this time, seeing the double feature was that much easier. The Amount Of Marketing For Both Was Done Amazingly Well And Spawned An Era Unlike Any Other Another significant factor contributing to this success is that the marketing teams were on point. We all already knew Christopher Nolan's best films. We were all already aware of the pull Barbie had as a toy. However, the fact that these two were eventually marketed together as a double feature paved the way for its success. They had their marketing – it was practically pink mania for months with Barbie. However, I think it worked best when people combined the films into one prominent double feature, allowing fans to dress up for each and go out with their friends, making it a whole event rather than just an outing or a date. That's the key in marketing here. The Fanbases Somehow Collided In A Way Unlike Ever Before, And I Don't Think We'll Get That Again The beauty of this is that Barbenheimer is special. Something like this has happened before, where two totally conflicting genres released major films on the same day – The Dark Knight and Mamma Mia!, a movie I rewatch all the time – but that was never as grand an event. The same thing happened with the release of Wicked and Gladiator, and how marketing teams tried to make it the new Barbenheimer, but it just didn't work – even if both films did very well. I think Barbenheimer is a one-and-done, and that does sadden me. There was something so…magical about this time, as cheesy as that sounds. The idea of two completely different fan bases coming together to celebrate films, in two totally different styles, is something that I will always love and never forget. The hype that led up to this made it even more enjoyable, and attending the double feature with my friends and a crowd of people who just loved movies was unlike any other. Maybe one day we'll get another Barbenheimer. But you know what? I'm happy with it living in my memory, even if I feel that we're never going to get another time like this one. NYC's ‘We're With Colbert' rally for late-night host is a bust with just 20 protesters

What a joke. A Big Apple rally in support of on-his-way-out 'Late Show' host Stephen Colbert drew fewer than two dozen people Sunday — with even the NYPD cops on scene quickly calling it a day since most of the demonstrators left after just a few minutes. Organizers said the 'We're With Colbert' gathering outside the CBS Broadcast Center on Manhattan's West Side said it was meant to be part of a nationwide call for 'integrity.' REUTERS 4 Colbert was told this was his last season on CBS, sparking controversy on both sides. CBS 'Our country is not perfect, never has been,' said the event's organizer, who would only identify himself as Matt and said his nickname is 'Slim.' Advertisement 'But we've always had the First Amendment, and now Mango Mussolini is trying to take that from us,' he said, referring to a derogatory nickname for President Trump. CBS said declining viewership and diminishing profits led to its decision to end the show in May 2026, effectively firing the 61-year-old talk-show host Colbert — but critics claim the network bowed to pressure from Trump. 4 CBS officials said the decision to fire Colbert was the result of growing costs and diminishing viewership. Luiz C. Ribeiro for New York Post 4 The number of protesters at Sunday's 'We're With Colbert' rally topped off at about 20 at its peak. REUTERS Advertisement CBS's parent company finalized an $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media shortly after Colbert was told he was on his last season. The merger required federal approval. Colbert has also been among the top talk-show hosts who routinely roast Trump. 'This is a First Amendment attack,' a protester who refused to give her name said of the closing-down of the show. 'We can't stand for that.' Advertisement Still, Colbert has also come under fire for featuring predominantly lefty-leaning guests. According to the right-leaning group MRC NewsBusters, Colbert has had 176 liberal guests and only one Republican on his show since 2022.
