Midsomer Murders star confirms return as he replaces detective 'It's a massive promotion'

Daniel Casey starred in Midsomer Murders as DS Gavin Troy alongside John Nettles, who played the lead detective Tom Barnaby Midsomer Murders star Daniel Casey is set to make a comeback to the beloved drama, though in a completely different capacity. ‌ Daniel portrayed DS Gavin Troy in the popular ITV series alongside John Nettles, who took on the role of lead detective Tom Barnaby. ‌ The actor is now preparing to step into the shoes of DCI Tom Barnaby for a fresh stage adaptation of The Killings at Badger's Drift. ‌ Speaking about his upcoming role, Daniel described it as "it's a massive promotion" whilst acknowledging he has "big shoes to fill". In conversation with the Northern Echo regarding his new part and the guidance John Nettles offered him, the actor revealed: "Barnaby and Troy had an almost father/son, mentor/pupil relationship, and that is very much like my relationship with John," reports the Express. "When he learned that I was taking on the role in the play, he said, 'Well, he's learned at the feet of the master.'" ‌ He continued by explaining that John had advised him to "be true to himself," which is precisely how he's approached tackling the character of Tom Barnaby. Daniel and John worked together from the pilot episode in 1996 right through to 2003, when Daniel chose to depart the series. ‌ "I spent all those years standing next to him, watching and listening, so hopefully I have absorbed a bit of his magic," he reflected. "It's a bit daunting, because his are big shoes to fill, but I'm really excited about doing it." ‌ The Killings at Badger's Drift marked Caroline Graham's debut novel and served as the foundation for the inaugural Midsomer Murders episode. The stage production delves into the world of DCI Tom Barnaby and DS Gavin Troy as they unravel the mysterious demise of the much-adored Emily Simpson in Badger's Drift. The play's blurb entices audiences with: "A night of murder and mystery, full of theatricality and intrigue, with the central partnership of Barnaby and Troy, a whole host of English eccentrics and this real dark undercurrent of secrets and lies." When Daniel's character exited the series, he wasn't directly replaced. Instead, his departure was scripted out, paving the way for a succession of sergeants before Neil Dudgeon stepped in to fill John Nettles' shoes as DCI John Barnaby in 2011.

Gregg Wallace fears he will be stripped of MBE after BBC sacking - 'What will be my legacy?'

Former Masterchef host Gregg Wallace has opened up on his fears over being stripped of his MBE following his sacking from the BBC show as he asks what his legacy now be Former MasterChef host Gregg Wallace has sensationally revealed that, in the wake of his sacking from the BBC, he fears he will be stripped of his MBE that was awarded to him in 2022 for his services to food and charity. The 60 year old presenter, who became known across the nation for presenting MasterChef and Celebrity MasterChef, believes his career is now over after he was fired from the broadcaster following accusations of inappropriate behaviour. He had been a firm fixture on the show since 2005 until he was suspended last year. Earlier this month, 45 claims out of a staggering 83 allegations were upheld after a seven-month investigation, which covered the period between 2005 and 2024. The BBC has confirmed they have "no plans to work with him in the future." In a new interview, the former greengrocer is now facing further turmoil as he fears there could be another level of humiliation if his MBE is taken away from him. Speaking to The Sun, he questioned his legacy. He said: "What will my legacy be now? I don't want it to be telly, I want nothing to do with it all. I have worried about losing my MBE but there's not a lot I can do about it." He added: "But I haven't done anything illegal and hopefully now more and more people will realise that I haven't been exposing myself, and I haven't been groping people either." He continued: "So now I want to start campaigning — raising more awareness of neurodiversity in the workplace." " I think perceptions may slowly change and all I want is people to ask questions of people whose behaviour they find odd — even people that might look like a football hooligan to you.," he said. "You can't decide which groups of people or which disabilities you will support or won't support in the workplace. You either embrace it all or you don't," he added. Gregg has now claimed that the BBC should have spotted his autism and advised him to go to Occupational Health rather than "letting all these complaints build up against me." This is something the former presenter said he feels "very angry about that." Gregg was diagnosed with autism in January. The BBC has confirmed that they will air the final season of MasterChef that was recorded with Gregg and his co-host John Torode, before their sacking. John had been axed from the show after an investigation confirmed that he had used racist language before.

Netflix's Wednesday confirmed for season three but fans all have same complaint

Netflix's Wednesday is set to return for its second season next month with show bosses confirming a third season with Jenna Ortega will also be on its way. Netflix's hit show Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega has been confirmed for a third season just weeks before season two is set to debut next month. Wednesday is returning for its second season on August 6 after the global success of the first season of Wednesday in 2022 saw it claim the title for the most-viewed English-language series on Netflix of all time. ‌ The announcement of the third season was made on the show's official Instagram page on Wednesday evening, of course. The poster cover shows Ortega, who plays Wednesday Addams, staring out into the distance with an ominous look on her face. Below her is Uncle Fester's hand holding a crystal ball with the number 3 on it. ‌ The words on the image read: "Bad things come in threes." The Wednesday account captioned the announcement: "Season 2 awakens in two weeks. Season 3 is the next omen, already in motion, already inevitable." ‌ Part one of season two is set to drop in less than two weeks time on August 6 while part two will arrive later in the year on September 3. Season three has not been given a release date as of yet. ‌ Fans of the show were left delighted with the update as they raced to the comment section. An update One excited follower exclaimed: "WEDNESDAY SEASON 3 CONFIRMED?? I'm breathing black glitter right now." Another chimed in: "This has made my day. I can't express how freakin' happy I am right now. Every day is Wednesday!" ‌ A third joked: "I'm rising from my grave after seeing this." A fourth added: "And season 2 hasn't even come out yet this is amazing!" Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! I hope so." However, elsewhere on X, formerly known as Twitter, other viewers appeared to not get too excited about the announcement as they all made the same remark about how long it will take to be released. Replying to the tweet posted by Netflix which announced the news, one wrote: "Too long of a gap between each season, half of the audience is already gone." ‌ A third made a similar remark as they wrote: "So we can expect it around 2030..." Another echoed: "I hope we don't have to wait 12 years for season 3 like we have for season 2." ‌ Somebody else joked: "Airing 2040 with 8 episodes." The first season of Wednesday aired in November 2022 and was a colossal hit on the streaming platform. ‌ However, fans have now been waiting almost three years for season two, which appears to have left many viewers disgruntled by the long period between seasons. Hopefully the wait will be worth it though as Season 2 of Wednesday is set to explore darker, more complex stories, while also retaining the show's signature macabre humour. Co-creator and showrunner Alfred Gough said: 'We think Season 2 is funnier as well!' ‌ The second season will also see the Addams Family and Nevermore lore being expanded with mysterious new characters being introduced. Familiar faces including Morticia, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gomez, played by Luis Guzmán, and Pugsley, portrayed by Isaac Ordonez are all set to return in expanded roles. Viewers will want to stick around for season 3 too, which promises to go even further, on every level. Gough said: 'Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can. We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.' Co-creator and show runner Miles Millar added: 'We will be seeing more Addams Family members and learning more family secrets in Season 3!'
