A Super Mario Maker 2 player has cleared an astonishing 1 million levels
The Twitch and YouTube streamer had hoped to reach that point by the game's sixth anniversary and got there toward the end of a 18-hour marathon . In fact, DSteves cleared 1,000 levels during that single stream. This embedded content is not available in your region.
After the 999,999th level clear, an emotional DSteves punched in the code for a custom level a player named raysfire created just for this occasion — you can try it yourself by entering the level ID QKQ-4TD-0DG. Since this is SMM2 , of course there was some cheap (or should that be Cheep Cheep?) trolling from raysfire, such as a Question Block that dispensed an enemy instead of a power-up. DSteves died a couple of times while playing this level, including to Bowser fireballs that were disguised by a bunch of coins.
DSteves said on the stream it took six years and eight hours to beat 1 million SMM2 levels, and then toasted the achievement with some champagne. The vast majority of the level clears, nearly 800,000 of them, occurred in one Endless Challenge streak on Easy difficulty (just slightly more than my current streak of 581). So, DSteves didn't exactly grind through several hundred thousand ultra-hard kaizo-style stages, but it's still an impressive achievement.
To reach the goal, DSteves cleared an average of 456.4 levels per day. The streamer skipped more than 80,000 levels, died more than 772,000 times and hit the million mark with about 165,000 more stage clears than the player in second place (I love that SMM2 shows these stats publicly).
Despite hitting an astounding number of cleared levels, DSteves isn't done with SMM2 . The streamer was back to playing the game the following night and, at the time of writing, has now beaten 1,000,050 Super Mario Maker 2 stages.

YouTube Provides More Tools to Help Grow Your Channel Audience
This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. YouTube's looking to provide channel managers with more tools to help grow their in-app communities, including updated audience engagement insights, and improved markers of interaction opportunities in-stream. First off, YouTube's giving channel managers more insights into audience engagement, including expanded data on 'New' and 'Returning' viewers. As you can see in this example, YouTube will now give you more specific data on viewer behavior, with updated categorization of each video's audience. As per YouTube: 'We're introducing deeper audience insights to help creators understand their viewers beyond just 'New' and 'Returning.' Creators will now be able to see granular segmentation based on long-term viewer behavior, including 'New', 'Casual,' and 'Regular' viewers. The goal is to help creators build better content strategies and grow their audience.' Essentially, the 'Returning' viewers metric is being replaced with more detailed categories, including 'Casual' and 'Regular' viewers. 'Casual viewers are those who've been watching occasionally for a while, specifically between one and five months in the last year. Regular viewers are those who've been watching more consistently, specifically for six or more months in the last twelve months.' The additional categories will provide more insight into viewer engagement trends, and help you get a better understanding of audience behaviors, and your broader community-building efforts. So if you're looking to build your YouTube community, and boost those 'Regular' viewer stats, you'll now have more data to refer to when strategizing your output with that goal in mind. On that front, YouTube recommends that channel managers utilize community-building options, like Community Posts, to further engage your audience. YouTube says that posts, as well as responding to viewer comments, can help to enhance connection, while exclusive events, including live-streams, can further enhance those efforts. However you choose to go about it, these updated data points will provide more insight for you to build your strategy around, and ensure that you're boosting the right metrics for your goals. YouTube says that its updated audience insights are being rolled out to all creators globally from today. YouTube's also expanding access to its 'Most relevant' comment filter, which highlights key engagement opportunities in the app. As you can see in this example, using the 'Most relevant' filter, creators will be able to quickly find key opportunities, like questions from viewers. YouTube originally announced the option late last year, and it's now expanding access to all creators, providing another community-building opportunity. YouTube's also expanding access to its live-stream leaderboard, which displays the most engaged viewers on each live-stream (which it began testing earlier this month), while YouTube Premium members in the U.S. can now access the platform's latest AI discovery elements, which provide additional, auto-generated context on certain queries. 'When a premium user searches for queries related to shopping, places, or things to do in a specific location, the carousel will populate relevant videos with brief topic descriptions on the results page. The goal is to help users quickly discover videos and topics related to their query, and provides a new way for creators to be discovered by viewers who might not have found them otherwise.' Both of these features were announced recently, but are now being expanded to more users. Some handy updates, primarily focused on growing your YouTube audience, and maximizing connection with your viewers. Believe it or not, Jake Paul is now a ranked boxer and eligible to fight for a world title
Jake Paul, left, defeated Julio César Chávez Jr. by unanimous decision Saturday at Honda Center. The former YouTube influencer is now 12-1 with 7 knockouts and ranked by the World Boxing Association. (Etienne Laurent / Associated Press) Jake Paul was a child actor. He was once primarily known as a YouTube influencer. When he started boxing, he was seen largely as a novelty act who didn't face serious fighters. As of Monday night, however, Paul is ranked by the World Boxing Assn. And as impossible as it may have sounded in the not-so-distant past, that makes him eligible to fight for a world title. Advertisement "I've worked hard to get here but there is nothing to celebrate," Paul wrote on X after the WBA listed him at No. 14 in the latest edition of its cruiserweight rankings. "Long road ahead and I'm more committed to it every single day. I may veer off the path now and again, but being a world champion is my desired ultimate destination." The ranking came days after Paul's victory by unanimous decision over former middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr., the most accomplished opponent the former Disney Channel "Bizaardvark" star has faced en route to a 12-1 record with 7 knockouts in a boxing career that has spanned less than seven years. Read more: Win over Chávez makes Jake Paul feel like a real fighter and not just a YouTuber During much of that time, Paul's opponents included fellow YouTubers, an NBA player and several mixed martial artists. In the fall, he defeated then-58-year-old former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in a bout that peaked at 65 million concurrent streams on Netfilix and netted a record gate of $18,117,072 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Advertisement Paul's only loss came in 2023 against Tommy Fury, a professional boxer and reality TV star. He reflected on that fight Saturday night after his win over Chávez. 'I don't think I was a fighter at the time," Paul told reporters. "I was barely 2½ years into the sport. I didn't really know what I was doing. I didn't have the right equipment around me, the right conditioning. My lifestyle outside of the ring was still like that of a YouTuber, a famous actor or whatever it was at that point in time. I wasn't completely focused on boxing. '... People still hold the Tommy Fury fight against me, but now I've beaten a former world champion and I'm coming to collect on that loss to Tommy.' The current WBA cruiserweight champion is Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramírez, who was on the same bill as Paul last weekend and defeated Yuniel Dorticos in a close but unanimous decision. During the postfight news conference, Paul and Ramírez stared each other down. Advertisement 'I want tougher fighters. I want to be a world champion,' Paul told reporters. 'Zurdo looked slow ... tonight. That'd be easy work, too.' Get the best, most interesting and strangest stories of the day from the L.A. sports scene and beyond from our newsletter The Sports Report.
