Coastal belt MLAs said that state govt should keep the guidelines in abeyance and put a system in place for taxi operators.
The MLAs said that govt should establish a system for equal taxi fares.
Sawant said that all stakeholders will be taken into confidence before making any decision on cab aggregators. He held a meeting with coastal belt MLAs, including Michael Lobo, Jit Arolkar and taxi operators.
'There should be no confusion among the people as it is just a guideline for aggregators.
Ola and Uber will not come here. We will take all stakeholders, including hotels, taxis and MLAs, into confidence to put a system in place. We will resolve this issue. All should remain calm,' the CM said.
Arolkar said that the purpose of the meeting was to address the fear among taxi operators that cab aggregators like Ola and Uber will come to Goa. 'During the meeting, it was decided to have equal taxi fares across the state,' he said.
Lobo said, 'We have demanded that the guidelines should be kept in abeyance. We want taxi operators' issues to be addressed systematically. There should be no bargaining while hiring a taxi. Tourists should leave with good memories. Customers should know the exact rate. We want the taxi business to remain with locals only.'
Lobo said that locals should run the taxi business and there should be no external control over them.

He said that taxi operators should not set fares arbitrarily, but they should be equal. 'All taxi operators will agree to this, and there will be another meeting to resolve the issue.'
Since govt invited objections and suggestions from the public regarding the taxi aggregator guidelines, taxi operators are meeting MLAs of each constituency and demanding their support to oppose the operation of taxi aggregators in the state.

Uber Intercity grows to 3,000 routes; unveils premium Motorhomes service
Uber adds 1,000 new routes in intercity push; pilot of luxury Motorhomes to offer TV, lavatory, and mini-fridge for premium getaways starting August 7 Udisha Srivastav New Delhi Uber has expanded its Intercity services across India by nearly 50 per cent, now covering over 3,000 point-to-point routes. Company executives expect this growth trajectory to continue in the next calendar year as demand for intercity travel picks up. "We are growing roughly in the range of 40 to 50 per cent year-on-year. I think that's the kind of growth we continue to anticipate for the years to come, and hopefully even break that record," said Shweta Mantri, head of rider verticals at Uber India and South Asia, speaking on the sidelines of a company event in New Delhi on Thursday. Among the most travelled Intercity corridors over the past year were Mumbai–Pune, Delhi–Agra, Bangalore–Mysore, Lucknow–Kanpur, and Ahmedabad–Vadodara—especially around long weekends and holidays. Fridays emerged as the most preferred departure day, with travellers choosing early morning hours or the mid-afternoon lull (2 PM–3 PM) to beat traffic. To further accelerate adoption of Intercity services, Uber announced the pilot of a premium offering—Motorhomes—in Delhi's National Capital Region. The one-month pilot, starting August 7, is aimed at travellers seeking luxury and comfort for short getaways. Bookings for Motorhomes will open on August 4 and can be made through the Uber Intercity or Uber Reserve options. The vehicle can accommodate four to five riders and comes equipped with premium amenities including a television, lavatory, microwave, and mini-refrigerator—effectively creating a private lounge-on-wheels. "Our objective is to bring this elevated experience to life for our consumers, see how the pilot goes, what the demand is, and other factors," said Mantri. She noted that given the nature of the offering, pricing will be higher than Uber's regular services. The pilot coincides with the onset of India's festive season and a string of long weekends—periods during which rider interest typically spikes. Uber expects strong demand around Diwali, Holi, Eid, and the summer wedding season. With Intercity travel on the rise and premium services being tested, Uber aims to enhance its platform with both scale and variety, catering to budget-conscious travellers and those seeking curated experiences.

Uber expands intercity cab network in India by 50%, eyes further growth in 2026
Ride-hailing giant Uber has significantly expanded its intercity cab operations in India, now covering over 3,000 routes — a 50 per cent jump from the 2,000 routes it operated in 2024. The company aims to add another 1,500 routes next year, taking the total to 4,500 by 2026, ETTech reports. Among the new connections rolled out this year are Gaya to Patna (Bihar), Ayodhya to Prayagraj and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), and Bagdogra (West Bengal) to Gangtok (Sikkim). These additions are part of Uber's strategy to strengthen its footprint in the country's fast-growing intercity travel market, estimated to be worth at least $6 billion annually, with around 8 billion road passenger trips. 'This is an India-first innovation that we're also working to take global. We already have pilots running in several international markets,' said Shweta Mantri, Head of Rider Verticals, Uber India and South Asia. Uber's intercity service now operates in 79 Indian cities. Uber Intercity Motorhomes To attract more users, Uber is introducing a premium offering under a limited-time pilot called Uber Intercity Motorhomes in the Delhi-NCR region. These 4-5 seater vehicles are equipped with a television, microwave, lavatory, mini-fridge, and entertainment options. ' According to Uber, the most popular intercity routes in the last 12 months included Mumbai–Pune, Delhi–Agra, and Bengaluru–Mysore. The company has seen users opting for intercity rides for a range of travel needs including business, leisure, pilgrimages, and airport or railway station transfers. Indian market, a key player India remains a key market for Uber, with operations in more than 125 cities and over 1.4 million monthly active drivers. In 2024, Uber facilitated over a billion trips across the country. The company's India business reported strong financial performance for FY24, with a 41 per cent rise in operating revenue to ₹3,762 crore and reduced losses driven by improved ride-hailing operations and the growth of its support services. Beyond ride-hailing, Uber has also diversified its offerings in India. In May 2024, it launched Courier XL for large-item deliveries and announced plans to enter the B2B logistics space through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). It has also partnered with ONDC to offer metro ticket bookings on its app, beginning with Delhi Metro.
