It comes as Sir Rod was left devastated after he was forced to cancel a string of shows from his US tour after coming down with flu.
The Maggie May legend is set to perform in the Legends slot at Glastonbury in two weeks' time, but has been dogged with health issues over the last few weeks.
The multiple cancellations come after he was put on vocal rest between performances in May.
The 80-year-old noted he was planning to stop large-scale world tours at the end of this year.
However, he vowed to keep performing, just at more intimate venues.
Amid Sir Rod's health struggles, Penny said writing her memoir has been a "challenge".
In the book, she will share insight into her struggles with dyslexia, her upbringing and life with Rod.
But added that sharing difficult experiences throughout the book has helped her and had a positive impact on others.
In a post on Instagram, Penny wrote: "I'm so excited to announce that my new book, Someone Like Me, will be publishing this September!
"At times I've felt alone and overwhelmed by some of the most difficult experiences I've had, but I've found that delving deeper and sharing these moments has not only helped me, it's also had a positive impact on others.

"Life is full of ups and downs – we're all learning as we go and embracing this process is where growth and healing happens.
"Join me as I reflect upon my lessons in life, love and the importance of staying true to yourself though it all.
"I simply can't wait to share my story with all of you. Available to pre-order now from the link in my bio."

And the Scotsman took his opportunity to bring up the shift in darts in his response, even calling out younger players for "walking round with 'their bloody headphones in'. He said: 'I was sitting thinking the other day, having a talk with [Ian] White, [Adrian] Lewis, [Phil] Taylor, [Kevin] Painter, we used to sit and have a cracking laugh. 'Nowadays, I'd rather sit like this. Nobody talks to anybody. You don't have a good laugh, you don't have a bit of banter. You need to have a laugh.
