TAWAU: A 36-year-old sales assistant was jailed one year and ordered given three strokes of the cane for committing criminal breach of trust involving company funds amounting to RM10,550. Fadhil Salleh Kasim pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Ahmad Faizadh Yahaya to the charge against him.
Advertisement He had breached the trust given to him as a sales assistant of a supermarket which entrusted him RM10,550 at 7.30pm on June 7 at the supermarket in Semporna. Fadhil had withdrawn the cash without the knowledge of his superiors, which constituted a breach of legal contract. He was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment for criminal breach of trust by a person in a position of trust. According to the facts of the case, at 12.40 pm on June 12, a complainant, who was also an assistant manager, discovered during a check that there was a shortfall in the RM20,000 kept in the cash box. A review of CCTV footage revealed that the accused had taken money from the safe on June 7 without the company's permission. As a result, Fadhil was found to have committed the offence by withdrawing RM10,550 that had been entrusted to him. The court ordered jail sentence from the date of arrest on June 18. Tangkak trader loses over RM66,000 in part-time job scam
TANGKAK: A female trader has lost RM66,825 after being duped by a part-time job scam advertised through a popular e-commerce application. Tangkak police chief Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said the 36-year-old victim received the job offer via the app and was instructed to complete a series of tasks, with commission promised. "Despite following all instructions and completing the tasks, the victim did not receive any payments," he said in a statement on Saturday (July 5). Investigations revealed that the victim had carried out 12 fund transfers to eight different bank accounts, resulting in total losses of RM66,825. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment, whipping and a fine upon conviction.
