After Hera Pheri 3, Paresh Rawal has an big issue with...: 'Film let ke...'

In a no-holds-barred conversation with Himanshu Mehta on his podcast, acclaimed actor Paresh Rawal offered both nostalgia and sharp critique, confirming his return to the beloved Hera Pheri franchise while expressing deep concerns about the direction of Hindi cinema.
Paresh highlighted how the pandemic changed audience expectations forever. 'OTT platforms offered variety, realism, and risk-taking storytelling,' he explained. The Hindi film industry, in contrast, 'has not adapted. The audience evolved, but filmmakers stayed stuck.' Rawal takes a dig at ticket prices
A major pain point? Skyrocketing ticket prices. Rawal contrasted the pricing model in the South, where tickets rarely cross Rs 200, to that of Bollywood's urban multiplexes. He said, 'If the aam janta shuns your film and only the rich class endorses your films, then it's wrong. If a middle-class family, comprising 5-6 members, go to watch a film, unke Rs. 5000-6000 toh yuh nikal jaate hai… and there's no guarantee the film will satisfy you!'
He also pointed out the added cost of snacks: 'The kids will, of course, ask for popcorn, soda and ice cream.'
Taking a sharp dig at the plush recliner culture, Rawal didn't mince words, 'You are supposed to watch a film while sitting. Let ke nahin dekhi jaati. You haven't come to a spa! Waiters keep roaming around… Arre it's a film, not a wedding event!'
He likened the experience to 'mujra viewing' and called for a return to basic, focused cinematic engagement. What's next for Paresh Rawal?
On the work front, Rawal is set to appear in Nikita Roy, directed by Kussh S Sinha and starring Sonakshi Sinha, Arjun Rampal, and Suhail Nayyar. The release has been shifted to July 18.
He's also part of the ensemble in Bhooth Bangla—a Priyadarshan horror-comedy alongside Akshay Kumar and Tabu—and the much-awaited Welcome To The Jungle.

Brad Pitt's F1 Mints Rs 24 Crore In Four Days

Last Updated: Besides Brad Pitt, F1 The Movie also features Javier Bardem, Damson Idris, Tobias Menzeles and Kerry Condon in key supporting roles. Brad Pitt has made a thunderous return to the cinema with his new sports drama F1 The Movie. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, best known for directing Top Gun: Maverick, the film has earned a total of Rs 24.65 crore net within just four days of its release. F1 has been released in the country in four languages: English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. According to Sacnilk, F1 earned an impressive Rs 3 crore on Monday, June 30, alone, showing only a slight drop from its opening-day collection of Rs 5.5 crore. This is a positive sign that people are enjoying Brad Pitt's new sports drama, based on Formula One racing. What's even more impressive is that F1 is a standalone film and not part of any series or franchise, unlike many Hollywood movies that do well in India. It is an original story, which is competing strongly against new Bollywood releases like Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par and Kajol's Maa. People have been loving the movie in IMAX, which is also giving it a boost for the second weekend. If it keeps going like this, F1 might soon cross the Rs 60 crore, just like Final Destination: Bloodlines did. And globally, experts believe that the movie has a possibility of crossing $500 million and more if the upcoming releases, such as Superman and Jurassic World Rebirth, do not perform as well as expected. Besides Brad Pitt, F1 The Movie also features Javier Bardem, Damson Idris, Tobias Menzeles and Kerry Condon in key supporting roles. The racing drama follows the story of Sonny Hayes (Pitt), a New York City-based Formula One driver who left racing following a horrible crash. After his forced retirement from Formula One, he started racing in other disciplines and working as a taxi driver. Decades later, he returns to the high-stakes world of racing with only one wish to prove himself again. He is brought back to Formula One by his friend and former teammate, Ruben Cervantes, played by Javier Bardem, to train his team. Sonny is tasked with training a rookie driver, Joshua Pierce, played by Damson Idris. In addition to the lead cast, the film will also feature professional F1 drivers such as Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Sergio Perez, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, among others. Released on June 27, F1 is running in theatres. First Published:

‘Who'll accept if Hema Malini becomes Zeenat Aman': Yash Chopra rejected Poonam Dhillon's pitch for Yeh Vaada Raha story

Actor Poonam Dhillon recalled late filmmaker Yash Chopra's reaction when she once pitched him a film idea based on Daniel Steele's The Promise. It was later directed by Kapil Kapoor and was titled Yeh Vaada Raha (1982). Speaking with news agency ANI, Poonam revealed that he rejected the film saying that the Indian audience won't accept Hema Malini becoming Zeenat Aman. As per the plot of the story, the lead female actors changed after a cosmetic surgery. Yash Chopra didn't like Poonam Dhillon's pitch for Yeh Vaada Raha story. Poonam recalled reading the book during her trip to Japan. After returning to India she told Yash Chopra about the plot. "I told Yashji. I said, 'Yashji, ek bohot achchi kahani maini padhi hai (I have read a good story). I think it's a lovely story'. He said, 'I don't read books, you give it to Pam, she'll read it and tell me'. So I said, 'Okay'. Yeah, so Pam ji read it probably again in a day. It was a very fast read. And she gave him the narration of the subject. And I was very excited waiting for his reaction. So I said, Yash ji, you read it, Pam ji told you. He said, 'Yes, yes. But this film, our Hindi audience won't accept it'. I said, 'Why Yash ji, it's such a good story, you know, romantic story, everything'," said Poonam. As per Yash, there was a flaw in the story, which, according to him, renders it unsuitable for the Hindi audience. "He said, acha ek baat bta. Hema Malini Zeenat Aman ban jaae, kon accept karega (Tell me one thing. If Hema Malini becomes Zeenat Aman, who will accept)?' He finished my dream there and then, and the story was over. Yash Chopra toh nhi banane waale the (Chopra was not going to make it)," said Poonam. Poonam later realised Yash Chopra was right about audience's reaction Years later, Poonam was pitched a similar story by the makers of Yeh Vaada Raha, which she immediately accepted. However, after the film's struggling performance at the box office, Poonam recalled Yash's feedback on the story. "And sure, it proved right enough. At that time, plastic surgery wasn't something people would accept so easily. And that whole face has changed, and the same person is etc. So, it didn't work well at that time," she added. About Yeh Vaada Raha Yeh Vaada Raha also starred Rishi Kapoor, Tina, Rakhee and Shammi Kapoor. It was the first Hindi film where the lead female character is portrayed by two actors (Poonam and Tina) through the use of plastic surgery.
