Atletico Madrid target ‘doubles in value' on Euro U21 duty
Despite the frustration – and financial impact – of bowing out in the FIFA Club World Cup group stages, Simeone will still have a sizeable transfer budget to work with.

Defence is rumoured to be a key focus for Simeone, with Liverpool star Andy Robertson now off the table, amid interest in Atalanta star Matteo Ruggeri.
However, there could also be changes at the other end of the pitch, to lighten the load on star man Julian Alvarez next season.
Antoine Griezmann's contract extension, and flashes of promise from Alexander Sorloth underline Simeone's options, but there is room for one more.
As per reports from Diario AS, one of the leading stars at this summer's UEFA U21 European Championship has caught Simone's eye with VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade added to his transfer shortlist.

Woltemade has scored six goals on route to Germany reaching the final of the competition and his profile fits what Simeone wants as a rotation for Sorloth.

The report claims Atletico Madrid reached out to Stuttgart before the competition kick off with his value set at €17m.

Woltemade's superb first season in Stuttgart saw him called up for a senior Germany debut at the start of 2025.
The 23-year-old joined from Werder Bremen last summer, with the towering striker going on to score 12 Bundesliga goals and 17 overall in 2024/25, as Stuttgart finished ninth in the final rankings.
Simeone's squad are due back for preseason training in mid-July with a friendly confirmed against Newcastle United on August 9 following a domestic training camp.

Report – Atalanta Talisman No-Shows Training Amid Inter Milan Transfer Soap Opera

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has spent the past few days trying to force his club's hand on a transfer to Inter Milan. The Nigerian international had responded to Atalanta's rejection of Inter's second offer by scrubbing all traces of his current employers from his social media accounts. Then, yesterday Lookman took things several steps further. The 27-year-old made a public transfer request. Trans darts champion laments ban against trans women as 'loss for the trans community'
Dutch transgender darts champion Noa-Lynn van Leuven has denounced the World Darts Federation's recent decision to ban trans women from the women's category. The 28-year-old acknowledged the international governing body's new gender eligibility policy in a statement posted to Instagram on Friday, noting that "this decision does affect me personally — though, thankfully, not too severely at this point in time. But still, it hurts." "Once again, it's a loss for the trans community in sports. And that breaks my heart," van Leuven wrote. "As a trans person in the darts world, I know how vital inclusion is — not just on paper, but in practice. It's disheartening to see yet another policy framed around 'fairness' that ultimately results in exclusion, without truly considering the people behind the labels." Trans women and trans men who are on hormone replacement therapy are instead allowed to compete in a separate but equal open category. The organization claimed to implement the rule for "equal opportunity." Darts, like pool, fishing, dancing, and chess, is an activity where gender offers no competitive advantage, yet all have still implemented bans against trans competitors. A comprehensive review of several studies on trans participation in sports under their gender identity also found that trans athletes, post transition, are "more similar to their gender identity." It noted that both transgender and cisgender athletes show great variations in ability. Van Leuven, who has won several titles in both the women's and open category, has been prohibited from competing in WDF events since September, when the federation's members first voted to implement the ban. She spoke out against the rule at the time, saying that she and other trans athletes were being "cancelled." Van Leuven has been competing in Professional Darts Corporation events.
