Espionage case: YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra's judicial custody extended by 2 weeks

On May 26, the court remanded her to judicial custody for 14 days, which was further extended later. Malhotra, who hails from the city, ran a YouTube channel "Travel with JO".
She was arrested at the New Aggarsain Extension and booked under provisions of the Official Secrets Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Hisar Police previously said no evidence had emerged to indicate Malhotra had access to any military- or defence-related information but claimed she was in contact with some people, aware that they were Pakistani Intelligence Operatives .
Police sources had previously said she was in touch with Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a staffer at the Pakistani High Commission, since November 2023. India expelled Danish on May 13 for allegedly indulging in espionage.
The police had last month claimed Pakistani intelligence operatives were developing Malhotra as an asset.

Bogus sim cards used to help history-sheeter evade arrest
Rajkot: The Junagadh local crime branch (LCB) busted a state-wide racket involving the use of bogus sim cards, after they were found to help a history-sheeter, who had also contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, evade arrest in a Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organized Crime (GujCTOC) Act case. Police seized 1,001 activated sim cards, sourced by illegal means such as fabricating documents from outside Gujarat, and arrested two people. A hunt for several others is on. Police said the absconding accused, Dhiren Kariya, a listed bootlegger, was kept out of police's reach by his wife Nirbha and son Param, who used these sim cards for communication with him. Investigators found that the sim cards had been procured with the help of a relative, Sandip alias Banty, a resident of Vadodara, and another associate, Dharam alias Dhaval Mithiya from Junagadh. Three such sim cards were used to communicate with Kariya — one by his wife in an iPhone, and two by Param, who handed one over to an associate. One sim card was used to operate a WhatsApp account in Kariya's name. An LCB team arrested Bharat Parmar, 38, a resident of Amipura village in Radhanpur, and recovered 1,001 activated sim cards from him. These cards are suspected to have been used for various illegal activities. An offence under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at B Division police station and further investigation has been handed over to the special operations group.

Meerut: A 25-year-old man from Moradabad has been arrested for allegedly uploading objectionable content on his YouTube channel, which has over 50 lakh subscribers. Police said a complaint was filed by a local resident accusing Mohd Aamir of producing "abusive, malicious, and propagandist content" while dressed as a priest. "Further investigation revealed that Aamir had uploaded videos containing hate speech and vulgar language following which he was arrested and produced before the court," said SP (City) Kumar Ranvijay Singh. An FIR was registered against Aamir and his team at Pakbara police station under BNS sections 197-1 (imputations prejudicial to national integration), 353-2 (public mischief), 352 ( breach of peace), and relevant provisions of the IT Act. After securing bail from a magistrate's court on Saturday, Aamir posted an apology video on social media. "My videos are meant purely for entertainment and I don't want to hurt anyone's religious sentiments. If I have hurt anyone with my videos, I apologise. From now on, I won't upload such content again and will only post entertaining videos," he said. Meanwhile, police said they have recovered more objectionable videos from Aamir and are searching for members of his team involved in scripting and filming them. "Our social media unit is actively monitoring such content. Others uploading similar videos will also face action," the SP added.
