Joanna Lumley ‘wouldn't mind' assisted dying if she got to a ‘miserable' state
Asked about the Bill in an interview with Saga Magazine, Dame Joanna said: 'People are terribly anxious about it and think one may be coerced (into voluntary euthanasia).
'But I'm saying this now when nobody's coercing me, don't let me turn into somebody who doesn't recognise the people I love most, where I'm having a miserable time.
'When I get to the stage where I can't speak and have to be fed, that won't be me any more and that's when I wouldn't mind saying farewell.'
The Bill would see those wishing to go through assisted dying require approval by two doctors and a panel featuring a social worker, senior legal figure and psychiatrist. It will next come before the House of Lords for further debate and votes.
One of the Bill's most high-profile backers has been TV presenter Dame Esther Rantzen, 85, who has terminal cancer, and recently urged members of the House of Lords not to block the legislation.
Dame Joanna is best known for her roles as Patsy Stone in the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, Sapphire in ITV supernatural series Sapphire And Steel, and in The New Avengers, the 1970s revamped version of 1960s ITV spy series The Avengers.
She will appear in season two of Netflix supernatural series Wednesday as Grandmama in August.

One critic wrote: "Yes, this is a pretty traditional crime drama in a host of ways, but it's got a true star turn in the lead and a story that will keep you entertained from start to finish." Lavishing praise on Ellis, another wrote: "With Code of Silence (Ayling-Ellis) is revealed to be something else: a riveting actress with the talent to anchor a knuckle-biting criminal caper." One noted: "But although it's not a heavyweight crime drama, it's still worth a watch for its simulation of the deaf experience. The handling of lip-reading is fascinating, and the sound effects are perfect." "Is every second of this series satisfying? Nope. Still, overall, Code of Silence is truly groundbreaking, and the first three instalments are sublime," wrote another viewer. The mum-of-three, 72, tried the drug, which is designed to treat diabetes - but is now used for weight loss - in 2023 to help her lose a few pounds. Revealing she was tired of her weight "going up and down", she told Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway on ITV 's Good Morning Britain: 'I was just fed up of going back and forth with my weight, constantly like this. And I just thought, I've tried everything – everything I've tried. And so, I thought well, might as well try it (Ozempic) and I did.' However, admitting that her husband was not a fan of the drug, she confessed: 'He doesn't like it. And he's scared. He thinks that something's going to happen to me. (He thinks) 'This is it. There's nothing's perfect. If you've got skinny, then something else is gonna happen.'' Speaking on whether she was happy with her weight loss, she concluded: 'I could do with putting on a few pounds, but at this point, the way my body is, it's not listening. It's staying where it is.' Sharon, who is now grieving the tragic loss of her husband Ozzy, after he passed away at the age of 76, mere weeks after his final gig in his home city of Birmingham, has spoken openly about her health concerns over the years. The fiercely protective mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer in the summer of 2002, the same year that The Osbournes premiered on MTV. Sharon, who found fame as Ozzy's manager, did everything she could to protect her children from the heartbreaking realities of the disease, which had spread to her lymph nodes. In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, the X Factor star was asked why she continued working during her illness. Sharon replied: "Because I didn't want my kids and my husband to know how sick I was. When you say 'cancer', everybody always thinks 'death'. And you've got to remember it was 23 years ago." The Celebrity Big Brother star continued: "At that point, cancer wasn't the same as it is now. So everybody always thought it was a death sentence and I didn't want my kids to have fear constantly surrounding them. I didn't want it." Sharon, then 49, didn't shy away from discussing her cancer while filming, with the show including everything from her chemotherapy treatment to her decision to turn to Cher's wig maker after her hair fell out. Karen Pirie viewers have been left open-mouthed after a EastEnders star popped up in a new ITV detective drama with a distinctly different look. The second series of Karen Pirie, a series based on Val McDermid's Inspector Karen Pirie, fit our screens earlier this month. The show originally aired its first series on ITV in September 2022. It stars Lauren Lyle as DS/DI Karen Pirie, Chris Jenks as DC /DS Jason Murray, Zach Mywatt as DS Phil Parhatka and Rakhee Thakrar as Bel Richmond. ITVX's official synopsis reads: 'The relentless Scottish DI returns with a baffling new cold case. 'Can she crack the infamous 80s disappearance of an oil heiress and her son? BAFTA-winning drama starring Lauren Lyle.' And some have just realised where they recognise Dr. River Wilde from, the character who is Karen's best pal and professor of forensic anthropology and archaeology. Dr. River is played by actress Emer Kenny, 35, who has previously played a number of other roles in various TV shows. But many will remember her taking on the role of Zsa Zsa Carter in EastEnders in 2010. One said on the EastEnders Facebook fan page: 'Emer Kenny who played Zsa Zsa Carter is in the new ITV show Karen Pirie.' 'I thought it was her!' 'Same here I recognised her from somewhere.' The former soap star starred in 56 episodes and also appeared in the first and second series of EastEnders: E20. Her alter-ego is the daughter of Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw-White) and Mark Reynolds. She turned up in Walford and caused a scene after she kissed Peter Beale (Thomas Law) at a party in front of Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa). Earlier this week ITV viewers dubbed Karen Pirie 'the new Line Of Duty ' and binged through episodes. The show is produced by World Productions, the same company behind other hits including Bodyguard and Line Of Duty. Sunday's episode saw Detective Karen investigate a challenging kidnapping case when a man's body is found. The remaining episodes of the new season will air each Sunday evening on ITV1, and will be available to stream on ITVX. The new season of Karen Pirie was well-received by some fans who took to social media to rave. One posted on X: 'Enjoyable first episode of the new series, so intriguing I immediately binge-watched the other two on ITVX!'
