Married couple ends life in Patiala, leaves 3 kids behind
The man was found hanging at his home in Srinagar village, while the woman jumped into Bhakra Canal.
According to police, the deceased, both in their 40s, had a domestic quarrel last week.
Perturbed, on June 29, the woman left home with their three children for her maternal home in Anandpur Sahib, Rupnagar district. But she reportedly left the children at a gurdwara in Fatehgarh Sahib and disappeared. The children, after spending a night at the gurdwara, reached their maternal grandparents' home on June 30.
In an effort to bring his wife back and resolve the matter, her husband visited his in-laws, only to be told that she hadn't reached there.
Distressed and desperate, the man approached the Nabha police, alleging that his in-laws were not allowing his wife to return.
Hours after filing the complaint, the man was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his home in Srinagar village. He left behind a video message, blaming his in-laws for his extreme step.
The same day, the woman's body was recovered from Bhakra Canal in Patiala and moved to the mortuary of Rajindra Hospital.
Gurpreet Singh, station house officer, Bhadson police station in Patiala, said, 'After talking to families of both deceased, it seems that there was a marital dispute.'
Police have booked the man's in-laws under Section 108 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to abetment to suicide.

POCSO accused taken into police custody
The Dakshina Kannada police have arrested Naveenchandra (49) of Kabaka, near Puttur, who was accused of harassing a minor girl at Nehru Nagar Junction in Puttur on Tuesday. The victim's mother, in her complaint to the Udupi Women's police station, stated that the accused person misbehaved with her daughter while they were waiting for a bus. Cabbie arrested for attempted murder
Hyderabad: A 25-year-old cab driver has been arrested by Bowenpally police for the attempted murder of two patrolling constables. According to police, the accused, N Sampath Kumar, a resident of Moulali and native of Andhra Pradesh, who intentionally rammed his car into a police vehicle during patrolling on 5 July, was booked under Sections 109(1), 121(2), and 121(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act, in case number 295/2025. As per details, at around 10 PM on 5 July, constables K Chanti and L Praveen were conducting Blue Colt patrolling duties on Dairy Farm Road, Bowenpally. They noticed a suspicious white Maruti Suzuki WagonR taxi parked at the dead end of a by-lane. As they approached the vehicle for enquiry, the driver intentionally rammed it into the police bike, resulting in injuries to the officers. While Praveen sustained grievous fractures to his left leg, the rider, Chanti, received minor injuries. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Bowenpally police station. During the investigation, the accused was apprehended on 8 July, identified through CCTV footage and technical evidence.

A 50-year-old woman was allegedly robbed of her gold jewellery near Charbagh in Lucknow on Monday evening after two unidentified men lured her with a request for biryani. Pretending to be hungry, the men convinced her to buy them food, then distracted her and fled with her gold chain and rings. 'The police registered a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and assigned the investigation to S-I Kuldeep Singh. CCTV footage is being reviewed and efforts are underway to identify and nab the culprits,' said Naka SHO Virendra Tripathi.
