127 Kota Anggerik Haj Pilgrims Receive Muassasah Incentive

Barnama2 days ago
SHAH ALAM, July 6 (Bernama) -- A total of 127 individuals from the Kota Anggerik state constituency, who performed the recently concluded haj pilgrimage, each received RM1,000 through the 1446H/2025 haj muassasah incentive, which was open for applications from April 22 to July 25.
Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi, who is also the Kota Anggerik assemblyman, said that the incentive was part of the state government's ongoing efforts, through Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor), to assist first-time haj pilgrims.
'This initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden of first-time haj pilgrims, and this year, all eligible recipients will receive RM1,000, compared with RM500 in previous years.
'All recipients have been thoroughly screened and confirmed eligible, after submitting their applications at the Kota Anggerik state assemblyman's office since last April,' he told reporters after presenting the incentives to recipients at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque, here, today.
The Selangor government, through Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor), has allocated RM6 million for the haj muassasah incentive this year.
At the same time, Mohd Najwan announced that his office had also channelled community assistance, amounting to RM60,000, to 10 recipients, including individuals, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and residents' associations in the Kota Anggerik constituency, who are actively contributing to the local community.
'Most of the recipients are residents' associations that actively organise community activities, such as gotong-royong and welfare programmes. We hope that this assistance will encourage them to continue their efforts more effectively,' he said.
Meanwhile, one of the muassasah incentive recipients, Abu Hassan Darusman, 61, expressed his gratitude for the state government's efforts to ease the financial burden of performing the haj, for himself and six other family members.
He said that the assistance would help cover his children's education expenses, as well as the cost of necessities over the next few months.

Johor, federal govt to push for competitive wages in JS-SEZ

JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor government, in collaboration with the federal government, will continue engaging with investors and companies in the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) to implement more competitive minimum wages, including a target of RM4,000 for fresh graduates. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the matter is currently being refined through the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC). 'This is a strategic move to ensure the welfare of local workers and attract high-quality talent to contribute to Johor's economic development,' he said in a Facebook post today. He also highlighted that clean water supply remains a priority for the state government, expressing appreciation for federal support in approving new infrastructure projects to increase treated water distribution capacity, especially in strategic areas like the JS-SEZ. 'Meanwhile, the long-term plan to develop large-scale raw water resources to meet 2,000 million litres per day by 2060 demonstrates Johor's commitment to ensuring sustainable water supply for residents and industries,' he added. Onn Hafiz affirmed that the state government will continue to ensure smooth, transparent and impactful implementation for the benefit of all Johor residents. 'May these efforts be eased by Allah SWT and may the ambitious goals outlined in the Maju Johor 2030 Agenda be fully realised, driving Johor towards balanced, sustainable and inclusive development, InsyaAllah,' he said. - Bernama

Excavation did not cause Putra Height explosion

SHAH ALAM; The Selangor State Assembly was informed today that the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, on April 1 was not caused by excavation works, nor was it the trigger for the resulting blaze. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said investigations by the police, Minerals and Geoscience Department, and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) confirmed that the groundworks did not impact the gas pipeline. "According to checks with the local authorities, the 4.2-metre monsoon drain construction and the residential development took place around 2008 to 2009, before the establishment of the One-Stop Centre in 2010," he said during a briefing on the Putra Heights incident at the Selangor state assembly today. Amirudin also refuted allegations that the developer had carried out unauthorised construction near the Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB) reserve. He clarified that the company had complied with Petronas' safety conditions and obtained formal approval to proceed with works on March 20, 2025. He also denied claims that the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) had failed to meet the necessary criteria when approving the planning permission for works within the Petronas buffer zone, explaining that while PGB's buffer zone requirement is 60 feet, the approved buffer zone at the Putra Heights site was 66 feet. Earlier, DOSH Petroleum Safety Division director, Husdin Che Amat, was reported as saying that the incident was caused by weak soil conditions beneath the pipeline. He said that while the pipeline met all technical specifications, the investigation revealed that the ground beneath it was weak and failed to provide proper support, leaving a segment of the pipe resting over soft, wet soil. On a separate development, Amirudin said the reconstruction and repair works for the affected homes are ahead of schedule. He said that based on assessments by the Economic Planning Unit, three homes in Taman Putra Harmoni will be rebuilt, while 46 will undergo repairs, and another 46 units are still undergoing final structural inspections. He added that in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, of the 17 homes affected, 11 will be rebuilt and six repaired. He said that as of now, homeowners in Taman Putra Harmoni have submitted repair claims amounting to RM458,440.50, while residents of Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru have filed claims for RM884,934. He reminded residents that they have until Oct 27 to submit all required documents, with MBSJ, which is acting as facilitator. "Following the assessment, the state government will propose to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government to raise the ceiling for repair costs from RM30,000 to RM60,000 to account for roofing tiles and replacement of fittings such as water tanks," he concluded. – BERNAMA

China ready to sign SEANWFZ treaty without conditions, says FM

KUALA LUMPUR: China has confirmed its readiness to sign the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Treaty without any reservations, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan announced. The development marks a significant step toward regional security cooperation. Mohamad revealed that two to three other nuclear-weapon states have also reached out to Malaysia, the current ASEAN chair, to restart discussions on the treaty. While he did not name these countries, the engagement signals growing international interest in the agreement. 'This is a positive development,' Mohamad told reporters after chairing the SEANWFZ Commission Meeting, held alongside the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting. Earlier reports indicated that China and Russia had shown willingness, while the US was still reviewing the treaty. In another key decision, the meeting approved Timor-Leste's formal accession to SEANWFZ, which will be officially announced at the 47th ASEAN Summit in October. 'We will also refine and strengthen our modus operandi because we want ASEAN member states to truly understand their roles. We also want the SEANWFZ bloc to establish relations with nuclear weapon-free zones in other regions. 'This is something we are pursuing so that we can establish common ground and discuss ways to ensure the world is free from the threat of nuclear weapons,' he said. The SEANWFZ Treaty, also known as the Bangkok Treaty, was signed in December 1995 in Bangkok by ASEAN member states as a commitment to preserve Southeast Asia as a region free of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction. It came into force in March 1997. SEANWFZ is one of five Nuclear Weapon-Free Zones (NWFZs) in the world. The other four are located in Latin America and the Caribbean, the South Pacific, Africa, and Central Asia. - Bernama
