Dalai Lama to make announcement about his reincarnation during upcoming Tibetan Religious Conference
Dharamshala: The Tibetan Buddhist leaders will attend the 15th Tibetan Religious Conference from July 2-4 in the North Indian hill town of Dharamshala.
Tibetan spiritual leader, the 14th Dalai Lama, is expected to make an announcement regarding talks about his reincarnation issue during the upcoming conference here. Dalai Lama is turning 90 on July 6.
The Tibetan Buddhist leaders, including heads and representatives of all four sects, Sakya, Kagyu, Nyingma, and Gelug, will meet the Dalai Lama in July. However, the Karmapa Rinpoche, the head of the Kagyu sect, will not attend the event, and his absence will certainly make the Tibetans unhappy.
President of the Central Tibetan Administration, Sikyong (Political Leader) Penpa Tsering told ANI, "Since we came into exile, all the Buddhist traditions and the pre-Buddhist traditions inside Tibet, we used to meet periodically, so during this cabinet, this is the first time we are meeting."
"We also timed it in such a way that there is only one document that is available reincarnation September 2011 document, which talks about, when Dalai Lama will reach the age of 90, then he would take certain decisions or consultation with others, and this year it's going to be Dalai Lama90th birthday," Sikyong said.
Commenting on Chinese interference, Sikyong said, "These questions of spirituality and government interference, particularly coming from a Communist government that does not have faith in any of these things. It's a cross interference in the religious freedom of the Tibetan people, and it does not justify in any way. Therefore, they should be more concerned about the living 14th Dalai Lama. They should talk with him and resolve the Sino-Tibetan conflict, rather than thinking about using the next Dalai Lama as a political tool."
Namgyal Dolkar Lhagyari, a member of the Tibetan Parliament in exile, told ANI, "We all are aware of the past event, especially of the 2011, where 14th Dalai Lama has very categorically mentioned that when he is 90, he will be making some important announcement in regard to his reincarnation or emanation before death."
Tenzin Tsundue, a Tibetan activist, told ANI, "This conference of Tibetan Buddhist leaders is a very important one. They are likely to meet with the Dalai Lama consultant, who will also give their suggestion, especially regarding the future reincarnation of the Dalai Lama."

G7 back new 'side-by-side' tax proposal exempting American, UK firms from global tax rules
New Delhi: US-parented companies will be exempted from certain elements of an existing global tax agreement according to a statement released by the Group of Seven countires which detailed the new proposal signed by the United States and its G7 partners. The agreement will see US companies benefit from a "side-by-side" solution under which they will only be taxed at home, on both domestic and foreign profits, the G-7 said, in a statement released by Canada, which holds the group's rotating presidency. Earlier this year the US Secretary of the Treasury outlined the United States' concerns regarding the Pillar 2 rules agreed by the OECD/G20 Inclusive Framework on BEPS and set out a proposed 'side-by-side' solution under which US parented groups would be exempt from the Income Inclusion Rule (IIR) and Undertaxed Profits Rule (UTPR) in recognition of the existing US minimum tax rules to which they are subject. The side-by-side system could "provide greater stability and certainty in the international tax system moving forward, including a constructive dialogue on the taxation of the digital economy and on preserving the tax sovereignty of all countries, the statement read. The US Treasury Department noted that with Section 899 removed from the Senate version of the bill, there is now a shared understanding that the side-by-side system could help maintain progress made by jurisdictions within the Inclusive Framework in combating base erosion and profit shifting. "Following the removal of section 899 from the Senate version of the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, and consideration of the success of Qualified Domestic Minimum Top-up Tax implementation and its impact - there is a shared understanding that a side-by-side system could preserve important gains made by jurisdictions inside the Inclusive Framework in tackling base erosion and profit shifting and provide greater stability and certainty in the international tax system moving forward, the G7 announced. We look forward to discussing and developing this understanding within the Inclusive Framework," the Treasury said in a post on X. The removal of Section 899 has also been welcomed by the United Kingdom. British businesses, which had recently voiced concerns about potentially facing higher taxes due to the measure, will no longer be subject to those risks. G7 officials echoed the importance of collaboration, expressing their commitment to pursuing a solution that is "acceptable and implementable to all." Earlier this year, through an executive order, Donald Trump declared that the 2021 global corporate minimum tax agreement--negotiated by the Biden administration and supported by nearly 140 countries--would not apply in the United States. He also threatened to impose a retaliatory tax on nations implementing the global tax rules against US firms, a move viewed as harmful to many foreign companies operating within the US.

India: 3 dead due to suffocation, at least 6 injured during Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri
Puri: Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Sunday said that three people died and at least six people sustained injuries near the Gundicha Temple during the ongoing Lord Jagannath Rath Yathra in Puri. Speaking to ANI over the phone, Odisha Minister Harichandan said, "It is an unfortunate incident. We are taking note of that. I spoke with the CM this morning. We are taking stringent action. DGP has been sent to the spot. "Three people have passed away because of suffocation in the huge gathering. Six to seven people are injured. I am moving to Puri. I am monitoring the situation over the phone. We are trying our best to manage the crowd. Additional police have been deployed. The reasons for the incident are being investigated," Harichandan said. "The situation is now under control and the people are having darshan...", he said adding that the State DGP has been sent to the site. The mishap took place early this morning. The chariots had arrived at Saradha Bali from the Jagannath Temple on Saturday, a day after the Rath Yatra commenced. "The situation is being monitored," the minister said adding that he is rushing to Puri himself and that stringent action will be taken against those responsible. "Around 6-7 people were injuired and they are alright now," Harichandan further said. Meanwhile, BJD chief and former Chief Minister Naveen Naveen Patnaik has extended condolences to the families of the three devotees who have lost their lives in the tragic stampede at Saradhabali "I pray to Mahaprabhu Jagannatha for the swift recovery of the devotees injured in this devastating incident, he posted on X. "Today's stampede, occurring just a day after the abysmal failure of crowd management during the RathYatra that left hundreds injured, exposes the government's glaring incompetence in ensuring a peaceful festival for devotees," he wrote on X. The former Chief Minsiter said, "Eyewitnesses report that the initial response to this horrific tragedy came from the devotees' relatives, with no government machinery present to manage the surging crowds, highlighting a shocking lapse in duty. The inordinate delay in pulling the Nandighosha chariot on Rath Yatra day was conveniently attributed to "Mahaprabhu's wish", a shocking excuse that masks the administration's complete abdication of responsibility. While I refrain from accusing the government of criminal negligence, their blatant callousness has undeniably contributed to this tragedy. I urge the government to implement urgent corrective measures to ensure the smooth conduct of Adapa Bije, Bahuda, Suna Besha, and other key RathYatra rituals."

New Delhi: India will continue to grow robustly, even among major industrialised G7 countries, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) said in a report on 'Population, Productivity, Partnership: Rethinking G7-India Collaboration'. The PHDCCI report added that with an average real GDP growth of more than 8 per cent from 2021 to 2024, India has consistently outpaced all G7 countries: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. IMF's 2025 projections indicate that India will maintain a growth trajectory above 6 per cent (average) through 2029, supported by robust domestic demand, sound macroeconomic fundamentals, and its demographic dividend, the report said. "India's consistent real GDP growth makes it the key growth driver for the world economy. The transformative reforms, including GST, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Act, the Production Linked Incentive Scheme, growing digital infrastructure (Aadhaar and UPI) and Make in India, among others, are strengthening India's ascendancy in the World", said Hemant Jain, President, PHDCCI. The objective of the report was to assess India's growth and trade dynamics among G7 economies. In terms of purchasing-power-parity (PPP) terms, India's share in global GDP has surged from 7.0% in 2020 to 8.3 per cent in 2024, and is anticipated to exceed 9 per cent by 2029, he said. A crucial underlying factor is the demographic divergence between India and the G7, said Jain. India's working-age population (15-64 years) is projected to increase in the coming years, with over 68 per cent of its population currently between 15-64 years. This demographic dividend supports labour supply expansion, boosts domestic consumption, and enhances the innovation ecosystem through a vibrant startup culture and rising tertiary education enrolment, said Jain. Further, India's share of the total population ages 65 and above constitutes less than 5 per cent (2025). Conversely, G7 nations are confronting demographic headwinds as their share is more than 10 per cent, highlighting rapidly ageing populations, shrinking labour pools, and rising old-age dependency ratios, said Jain. By 2030, this share is expected to double or more than double for the G7 economies. "This is likely to slow potential output, reduce consumer demand, and increase fiscal burdens related to pensions and healthcare, said Jain. Notably, India's merchandise trade with G7 countries has surged by 61 per cent, rising from USD 154 billion in FY 2020-21 to USD 248 billion in FY 2024-25, maintaining a steady trade surplus. "This reflects India's growing export competitiveness, indicated by the commodity net export price index, bolstering its external sector resilience, Jain added. The industry body said in the report that key global initiatives led by India--the International Solar Alliance, Mission LiFE, and the Global Biofuels Alliance--are shaping a greener, more inclusive world. In the technology and digital governance space, India highlighted its commitment to a human-centric and ethical approach to AI, showcasing initiatives like BHASHINI and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as global models.
