Govt to expand National Scam Response Centre to cover all cybercrimes, establish 24/7 response network, says Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — The Madani government has agreed to expand the role of the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) to cover all forms of cybercrime, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced.
He said that a nationwide 24-hour response network, driven by coordination across multiple government agencies, will also be established to enhance cybercrime response capabilities.
'The strengthening of the NSRC will involve integrating local expertise, improving inter-agency coordination, and increasing human resources,' he said in a Facebook post.
The prime minister said he had earlier chaired a Special Meeting of the National Cyber Security Committee (JKSN) to evaluate immediate measures to bolster the NSRC.
Anwar revealed that since 2022, nearly 4.7 billion online scam attempts have been recorded — a staggering and worrying figure that demands urgent and coordinated action.
The prime minister said the Home Ministry and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have been tasked with fast-tracking the implementation of the NSRC's new structure, which includes clearly defining its role to ensure it is easily accessible and understood by the public.
A no wrong door approach will also be adopted to simplify the complaint and assistance process, allowing victims to seek help from any agency without being redirected, he said.
'I urge all agencies to act more proactively and think ahead to ensure comprehensive protection for the people.
'At the same time, our national cyber defence readiness must continue to be enhanced, both domestically and in collaboration with international partners,' he added. — Bernama

"This synergy ensures that government-to-government (G2G) discussions are supported by business-to-business (B2B) cooperation, which in turn opens new markets, strengthens existing operations, and bolsters Malaysia's position in these strategic regions," he said. He said the business delegation includes representatives from Petronas, Khazanah, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Maybank, FGV Holdings Bhd (FGV), and Weststar. "So let me emphasise once again — there is no conflict of interest between the government and the business delegation," he added.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — A 61-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman have been arrested by city police for investigation into the horrifying rape of the latter's 13-year-old daughter last year. Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said police have questioned the duo and three others, The Star reported today. 'We have questioned five people, including the suspects. 'The interview with the 13-year-old victim at the Child Interview Centre will take place tomorrow,' he was quoted as saying. From initial investigations, the girl was raped by the 61-year-old and her mother had witnessed the act. 'Recently, she overheard a conversation between the two suspects about meeting at a hotel so that the man could raped her again and it was consented by her mother,' Azam was quoted as saying. That was when the girl left her house and filed a police complaint, he added. Earlier media reports indicated that the 61-year-old was the 36-year-old woman's boyfriend. Azam said the mother worked as a security guard while the 61-year-old is a businessman. He said the two suspects were arrested on June 27 evening and are under remand until July 4.

PM Anwar to meet Italian industry leaders in Rome for economic talks
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to meet top executives from 36 Italian companies, including global giants such as Leonardo SpA, STMicroelectronics, and Ferrero, during his working visit to Rome. The discussions will take place at the Malaysia-Italy Economic Partnership Roundtable on July 2, as confirmed by Malaysian Ambassador to Italy, Datuk Zahid Rastam. The roundtable will also feature Malaysian companies accompanying Anwar, alongside Italian firms seeking deeper collaboration with Malaysia. Leonardo SpA operates in aerospace and defence, STMicroelectronics is a key semiconductor player, and Ferrero is a leading confectionery manufacturer—all with substantial operations in Malaysia. Zahid Rastam noted that Italian firms are keen to expand investments and partnerships in Malaysia, highlighting the country's strategic position in Southeast Asia. Italy, the EU's third-largest economy, contributes 12 per cent of the bloc's GDP, making it a crucial partner for Malaysia. Beyond business discussions, Anwar will hold talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, defence, agro-commodity, and digital economy. The Malaysia-EU Free Trade Agreement (MEUFTA) will also be a key agenda item. The first round of MEUFTA negotiations is set for June 30 to July 4, 2025, in Brussels, with a target conclusion by 2026.
