KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon and Half Marathon began Sunday morning following a 5K on Saturday evening — and 6 News photographers were there to catch it all.
The marathon and half marathon started at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 6, and the first runners will likely be crossing the finish line around 10 a.m. Around 7,000 runners are participating in the races this weekend.

The Ravens Foundation, Inc. has awarded grants to 28 nonprofit programs throughout the State of Maryland, it was announced Friday. As part of their ongoing dedication to improving youth sports in the region, the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour provided grants for new sports apparel and equipment to more than 4,000 local young athletes from over 250 total youth football teams and other youth sports programs. As part of this grant initiative, on Saturday, Aug. 2, the Ravens will host approximately 1,500 participants from 21 area youth and high school football programs at training camp to receive the new equipment and apparel. The selected programs will serve diverse populations in 12 Maryland counties, including Anne Arundel, Baltimore City and County, Carroll, Cecil, Frederick, Howard, Harford, Montgomery, Prince George's, Queen Anne's, Talbot, and Washington. The grant awards also span into Milford, Del. The grant is in Year 15, and continues to serve as a vital link between the Ravens and youth sports programs to help promote, improve, and facilitate the healthy development of children in the community. The Ravens Foundation, Inc., recently awarded $100,000 in grants to 21 nonprofit organizations in the Greater Baltimore area. The Ravens organization has been focused on giving back to local communities, and the organization just revealed a new mission. The Ravens Foundation, Inc., recently awarded $100,000 in grants to 21 nonprofit organizations in the Greater Baltimore area. The Ravens' PLAY 60 Grant will continue to provide financial support of up to $10,000 for both new and expanding programs or endeavors that promote physical fitness and/or nutrition education among youth. Since 2006, the Ravens Foundation, Inc. has provided over $1.7 million in funding to support these deserving programs. The 2024 PLAY 60 Grant helped fund a variety of projects, such as interscholastic athletic programs for students with disabilities, cooking and nutrition education and after-school mentorship programs. Each of these programs work to increase physical activity and nutrition awareness among local youth. A few examples of projects that received grants for 2024 include: Friends of Great Kids Farms Supports, promotes, and enhances the programming at Baltimore City Public Schools' Great Kids Farm and the district's Farm to School programming. Friends works with city schools to bring students to the Farm, a 33-acre urban farm with a stream, woods, fields, and greenhouses, providing students hands-on opportunities to connect farm and plate, reinforce curricular concepts, strengthen environmental literacy, and promote healthy habits; Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake This initiative provides a physical, activity-based youth development program designed to develop young women's physical skills and core values to live a physically active and healthy lifestyle. Soccer Without Borders This initiative uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change, providing underserved youth with a toolkit to overcome obstacles toward growth, inclusion, and personal success.
