Photos & videos found in hidden files in Khewalkar's phone: Police
Khewalkar, Nikhil Popatani (35) of Hadapsar, Sameer Fakir Mohammad Sayyed (41) of NIBM Road, Sachin Bhombe (42) of Wagholi and Shripad Yadav (27) of Akurdi were produced before Judicial Magistrate (First Class) N S Bari on Thursday afternoon. The court has sent them to judicial custody.
The prosecution told the court that they found several photographs and videos in the hidden files in Khewalkar's cellphone. Police also claimed of finding many 'objectionable' chats in his phone.

The crime branch of Pune police busted the house drug party after raiding a service apartment suite around 4.30am on Sunday. Police found 2.5g of cocaine and 70g of marijuana at the spot and invoked the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police custody of the five men ended on Thursday.

‘Penalty for power theft unfairly high & out of reach too'
Bhopal: In a rare occasion, the Opposition Congress joined hands with the ruling BJP MLAs in the House on Monday, demanding that the penalty in power theft cases be reduced. Raising the issue through a call attention motion, Ramesh Khatik of the BJP said that a compound interest of 16 percent is charged on a person accused of electricity theft. If the accused person pays the electricity bill five years later, he ends up paying more than double the bill. The case is put up in court and in Lok Adalats, the penalty is waived. Khatik questioned why the penalty can't be waived in the normal course if the person charged with electricity theft fails to turn up in Lok Adalat to settle the case for some reason. Khatik, who said that farmers and domestic consumers are the worst affected due to the excessive penalty of 16 percent compound interest on the bill, noted that no bank or financial institution gives so much interest as recovered from the consumers. He further mentioned that consumers, particularly farmers, often come to know of the case registered against them for electricity theft and put up in court quite late, and they sometimes don't receive notice for the Lok Adalat either, he added. Several MLAs from both sides joined Khatik in demanding that the penalty imposed on the bill in cases of electricity theft should be waived. Khatik, however, pointed out that the Lok Adalat takes place in Bhopal, and the cases at other places are settled online, which may not be convenient for many consumers, particularly farmers. The Electricity Regulatory Authority may also be informed about the debate in the House and asked to reconsider the provision of a hefty penalty on electricity theft cases. The minister, while maintaining that law is law, agreed to take up the issue with MP Electricity Authority as more and more members from both sides joined Khatik in support of his demand.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Police have registered an FIR against an associate professor in the Hindi department of Lucknow University following a viral social media post targeting Bageshwar Dham's Pt Dhirendra Krishna Shastri. The post, by professor Ravikant on July 31, 2023, led to a complaint from members of the Bageshwar Dham Jan Seva Samiti. Chhatarpur SP Agam Jain told TOI that the FIR was registered late Sunday night under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with statements that may hurt sentiments, spread false information, or promote enmity. The section carries a punishment of up to three years in jail. "There is no immediate provision for arrest, but action will be taken if required," he said. The controversy comes days after a July 28, 2023, incident in Chhatarpur's Lavkush Nagar area, where police intercepted an ambulance associated with Bageshwar Dham. Several women were found inside the vehicle and were later questioned by police. Officials said the women had been staying at the Dham for an extended period and were being sent to the railway station. They were released after interrogation. Youth stabbed to death in Vejalpur over spitting near doorstep, 7 booked
Ahmedabad: A petty dispute over spitting near a doorstep led to the murder of a 19-year-old boy in the Juhapura area late on Sunday night. An FIR was registered with Vejalpur police on Monday after the victim's father, Mohammad Safi Sheikh, narrated the sequence of events that ended in the fatal stabbing of his son, Mohammad Sufiyan. Safi Sheikh, a 40-year-old trader and resident of Sankalitnagar, stated in the FIR that around 12.30am on Aug 4, a quarrel broke out outside his residence. His brother-in-law, Mohammad Hamza Sheikh, got into an argument with neighbours — Arif Khalifa's relatives — including Akram Maniyar, over Akram spitting near his doorstep. The situation escalated quickly, and several members of Arif Khalifa's extended family allegedly gathered, abused, and threatened Hamza and Safi's family. The accused, identified as Tahir Khalifa, Tarik Khalifa, Ayaan Khalifa, Shahrukh Khalifa, Akram Maniyar, and Firdos alias Tabbassum Faruk Khalifa, reportedly formed an unlawful assembly with knives in hand.
