Two Qatari female innovators clinch first place, gold medal at ITEX in Malaysia
This crowning achievement was the outcome of an innovative concept and rigorous research efforts, culminating in the development of a smart bracelet designed to prevent drowsiness-induced traffic accidents.
The device functions by detecting early signs of fatigue and issuing immediate alerts to drivers, thereby bolstering road safety and curbing accident rates. The project aligns squarely with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The two innovators touted this milestone and affirmed that the win reflects their love for science and development, an organic outcome of their diligent work and the significant support young Qataris receive from the prudent leadership.
Both winners highlighted the energized efforts made by the Qatar Scientific Club in providing technological support, which helped advance this innovation throughout the implementation phases, commencing with the idea and culminating in the prototype phase.
This smart bracelet has so far received local and international awards, thereby confirming its effectiveness in fostering traffic safety and highlighting the growing creative capabilities of Qatar's young people on the global stage.

Awqaf, MoSY launch second edition of Outstanding Young Researchers Award
QNA Doha The Ministries of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) and Sports and Youth have announced the launch of the second edition of the Outstanding Young Researchers Award, held this year under the theme 'Youth and Social Responsibility: Duties and Challenges... Qatari Society as a Model'. The award aims to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two parties and support efforts to empower Qatari and resident youth in the field of scientific research. Director of the Department of Islamic Research and Studies at Awqaf, Sheikh Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani said that the award is a qualitative initiative targeting young researchers, seeking to encourage them to study the most pressing societal challenges and propose practical solutions that contribute to the advancement of society. He pointed out that the first edition of the award addressed the issue of late marriage and its impact on young people in Qatari society. He explained that the second edition features nine research themes addressing the legal, educational, and cultural dimensions of social responsibility, in addition to the role of values and national identity, voluntary work, and youth initiatives, as well as the intellectual, cultural, and economic challenges facing young people in shouldering this responsibility. For her part, Director of the Planning, Quality, and Innovation Department at the Ministry of Sports and Youth (MoSY), Maha Al Rumaihi said that the award represents one of the fruits of Qatar's National Youth Policy and reflects the Ministry's commitment to investing in the energies of young people, directing their interests toward serving the community, and fostering a balanced national character that is proud of its identity and capable of positively addressing challenges. She explained that the discussion of these issues by young researchers lends greater credibility to the proposal and enhances the effectiveness of its treatment. She also praised the efforts of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in supporting scientific research among young people. The award's organizing committee has set several conditions and criteria for participation, including that the researcher be Qatari or a resident of Qatar, between the ages of 20 and 39, and that the research be prepared specifically for the award in Arabic, according to precise scientific methodology. The research must be no less than 100 pages and no more than 150 pages (A4 size). Two copies (PDF and Word) must be sent to the designated email address, along with a CV and a copy of the contestant's ID card. Two or more researchers are permitted to participate in preparing the research, but the award may be withheld or withdrawn in the event of non-compliance with the conditions or the discovery of violations. The value of the prizes allocated to the winners amounts to more than QR200,000, with the first-place winner receiving QR100,000, the second-place winner receiving QR75,000, and the third-place winner receiving QR50,000. Sunday, July 5, 2026, has been set as the deadline for submitting participating in research papers. The scientific evaluation phase will begin immediately thereafter, considering precise criteria that include the quality of content, the depth of analysis, and the realism of the proposed solutions.

MCIT celebrates youth innovations in digital manufacturing
QNA Doha The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), through its Studio 5 initiative, organised the closing exhibition of the Parametric Lamp Hackathon under the title 'STLight'. The event underscores the Ministry's continued commitment to nurturing emerging talent and promoting a culture of digital fabrication within an interactive environment that connects design with emerging technologies. The exhibition featured six student-developed projects, each designed and fabricated using parametric design and 3D printing and integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for lighting control. Visitors were able to engage with the models directly by adjusting lighting intensity, color, and temperature, demonstrating the real-world possibilities of merging design and technology. The exhibition is the culmination of the Parametric Lamp Hackathon, an event organised by Studio 5 last April. The hackathon brought together 14 university students, aged 19 to 24 years, from diverse academic backgrounds. Participants underwent comprehensive training in digital design, 3D printing technologies, and IoT applications, delivered by Studio 5's team specialising in technology, engineering, and digital fabrication. Through this hands-on training, students developed innovative concepts for smart lamps that combine aesthetic appeal with advanced functionality, while emphasising sustainability and energy efficiency. Commenting on the exhibition, Section Head of the Digital Competencies at MCIT and Project Manager of Studio 5, Nouf Abdulaziz Al Haddad, stated that the exhibition embodies an innovative educational experience aimed at bringing concepts such as digital fabrication and IoT closer to youth and the broader community through tangible models that demonstrate how technology can be embedded in contemporary design. She emphasised that the exhibition is aligned with Studio 5's broader vision to raise public awareness of emerging technologies and to empower students with practical skills that may not be readily available in traditional academic environments. The five-day exhibition, titled 'STLight', was held in cooperation with the Qatar's hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in design, fashion, and technology located in Msheireb, and the educational platform of the Qatari-Italian design studio FROMM.
