Ezz Elsewedy Automotive Factories launches $50mln Proton car assembly plant in Egypt
In the first quarter of 2025, ESAF commenced assembly of the Proton Saga, a model by Malaysian automaker Proton, in the 70,000 square metre complex, confirmed Hisham Ezz Alarab, Chairman of Ezz Elarab Group.
The $50 million assembly facility, one of the three planned in the complex, has an annual production capacity of up to 40,000 vehicles.
Ezz Alarab stated that Proton Saga vehicles will be sold domestically and exported to seven African countries.
He disclosed that ESAF also plans to establish a spare parts plant within 18 months. The third plant is expected to be a paint shop.
In the long term, the company plans to expand into electric vehicle (EV) production and components, he said, adding that 80,000 cars will be assembled annually in the complex.
Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton, highlighted Egypt's potential as a gateway to Africa and the Middle East
'For this reason, we are targeting the production of 5,000 Proton Saga CKD units in 2025, aligning with our long-term vision to make exports a key pillar of our growth strategy,' he said.
ESAF CEO Amr Abu El Saud said the company is eyeing to serve local and global brands through contract manufacturing and assembly.
Bassem Ashmawy, General Manager of Proton Egypt, noted that Proton Saga assembly represents a new milestone in Proton's 20-year partnership with Ezz Elarab, which has brought over 18,000 vehicles of the automaker to the Egyptian market.
In November 2024, ESAF had signed a framework agreement with the Egyptian government under the Automotive Industry Development Programme (AIDP) to assemble Proton cars in Egypt.
The AIDP aims to localise automotive manufacturing and position Egypt as an export hub for Africa.

Jordan, Egypt highlight commitment to agricultural integration
AMMAN — Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat on Tuesday reiterated the importance of agricultural integration between Jordan and Egypt. During his meeting with Head of the Agricultural Engineers Syndicate in Egypt Sayed Khalifa and Chairman of the Egyptian Agricultural Research Centre Adel Abdel Azim, Hneifat stressed the need to build on Jordanian-Egyptian ties by enhancing coordination and activating joint action, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Hneifat cited exchanging technical and professional expertise and facilitating agricultural trade between the two countries as tools to further enhance ties between Amman and Cairo. He pointed to the opportunities available to benefit from 'high-quality' Jordanian agricultural inputs, such as improved seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and veterinary medicines. The minister also called for establishing direct communication channels between relevant institutions and the private sectors in both countries to translate these opportunities into practical and fruitful projects. Khalifa highlighted the 'deep' professional ties between the agricultural engineers syndicates in Jordan and Egypt, describing their relationship as a 'successful model' of cooperation among Arab agricultural institutions. He noted that both syndicates work jointly to exchange expertise and technical training, and to build strategic partnerships aimed at achieving agricultural integration and boosting productivity in both countries. Abdel Azim stressed the importance of the visit in opening new avenues for scientific and research cooperation. He also indicated a move towards initiating direct networking between the Jordanian and Egyptian private sectors, particularly in the fields of seed and fertiliser production and development. Abdel Azim called for prompt meetings between investors from both sides to facilitate cooperation and ease the flow of Jordanian agricultural products into the Egyptian market. President of the Jordanian-Egyptian Agricultural Traders and Producers Association Saleh Yassin underlined the 'notable' progress in Jordanian-Egyptian agricultural relations. Yassin said that there are many Jordanian companies and factories operating in the Egyptian market, which highlights the mutual trust and the importance of maintaining 'strong' economic partnerships that benefit both nations. President of the Jordanian Agricultural Engineers Association Ali Abu Nuqta noted that the visit was part of coordinated efforts between the two syndicates in Jordan and Egypt. He referred to a shared vision that aims to expand the base of technical and syndicate-level cooperation, enhance the capacities of the agricultural sector in both countries, and serve the interests of agricultural engineers and farmers alike.

Proton announces production facility expansion ahead of IBC 2025
The finalised Proton Zoom and HFR models will make their European debut at IBC in Amsterdam. Proton Camera Innovations is set to make a major announcement at IBC 2025, revealing plans to open a new dedicated production facility in response to a sharp rise in global demand for its miniaturised, high-performance, broadcast-grade cameras. The upcoming facility will operate alongside Proton's existing manufacturing site, which will continue to focus on research and development, allowing for more flexible and rapid prototyping. The new site, equipped with state-of-the-art high-speed precision machinery, will not only significantly boost production capacity but also support tailored modifications to meet the specific needs of customers seeking compact and versatile imaging solutions. IBC 2025 also marks the European debut of two of Proton's models: the Proton Zoom and Proton HFR. First previewed in prototype form at NAB 2025, both models will be shown in their final, production-ready versions. The Proton Zoom introduces optical zoom capabilities to the company's lineup for the first time, featuring a 2.2x zoom range with adjustable viewing angles between 50° and 115°, and a wide F1.4 aperture for low-light performance. Despite housing motorised optics, the camera maintains a compact footprint of just 50mm x 50mm x 68mm, making it one of the smallest zoom-enabled broadcast cameras on the market. The Proton HFR, meanwhile, brings ultra-slow motion capabilities to Proton's offering. Featuring a 2/3' global shutter sensor and the ability to capture 240 frames per second, it supports seamless integration into live production environments thanks to its multi-phase SDI output system. This innovation allows slow-motion footage to be assembled by servers without disrupting ongoing capture, a significant advancement for sports and high-action broadcasts. These new models reflect Proton's commitment to combining innovation with miniaturisation and will be available for live demonstrations at the booth. They will be showcased alongside the company's core camera lineup, each designed to solve production challenges while preserving a minimal physical footprint. Among the standout offerings is the Proton Cam, which holds the distinction of being the smallest broadcast-quality camera available, packing Full HD resolution, 12-bit processing, and low-light capability into a body just 28mm wide. The Proton Flex extends the same imaging power into a flexible format with a detachable lens system for challenging installations, while the Proton Rain is engineered for extreme environments with shock resistance and full weatherproofing. Across the board, all models share key attributes including 12-bit image depth, interchangeable lenses, and a design philosophy rooted in cinematic versatility and broadcast-grade resilience. The company's expansion and product evolution come in response to a growing industry demand for cameras that can be adapted to a range of creative and technical workflows. With the new production facility, Proton will not only be able to fulfill higher order volumes but also meet individual modification requests with precision and speed, all while maintaining its high standards for build quality and system integration. CEO Marko Höpken said: 'As demand for our cameras has surged, we're seeing a shift in the market – not just towards smaller, higher-performance cameras, but towards systems that fit specific use cases. Our new facility allows us to meet the rapidly increasing demand for our core range, as well as offering small-scale tailored modifications for individual users, supporting our clients with rapid, precision customisation at scale.' He continued: 'This is the next stage in Proton's growth – both in terms of turnover and product evolution: providing not only the smallest and most capable broadcast cameras on the market, but also the flexibility to adapt them to every production scenario.'
