King Charles III has been made a "care-holder" of one square kilometre of the Moana Mahu marine protected area, as a gift from Niue.
Last week, ministers, indigenous leaders, businesses and investors gathered at a conference convened by the UK Government in London to discuss how to drive private money into restoring and conserving nature and natural services.
At the reception after the meeting, Niue natural resources minister Mona Ainu'u presented King Charles with Niue honey and a certificate showing he had been made a Moana Mahu "care-holder".
Niue said it is an innovative finance solution to protect oceans for future generations.
Police in Papua New Guinea have caught an assistant policeman who allegedly freed his partner and twelve others from police custody in Simbu province.
However 12 of the escapees are still on the run and pose a significant risk to the public.

reported the auxiliary officer and the woman, facing trial for murder, were arrested on Saturday after a public tip-off.
Provincial police commander Superintendent Muzac Rubiang said the officer facilitated the breakout on 17 June by supplying spare keys to the cell block.
Superintendent Rubiang said the escapees are dangerous, with eight accused of murder and one of rape.
The assistant officer has now been charged with 13 counts of aiding prisoners to escape while his partner is charged with escaping from lawful custody.
A new study has found the Papua New Guinea Government lost 2.59 billion kina - more than US$600 million - to the illicit alcohol market.
The National
reported illicit alcohol makes up 71 percent of the PNG alcohol market.
Economic and financial consulting director Robert Southern has presented the report to the prime minister.
He said homebrew alcohol makes up a third of the whole market.
Fiji's Ministry of Finance has expressed confidence that the country will be removed from the European Union blacklist following an upcoming review.

reported Permanent Secretary for Finance Shiri Gounder saying the export incentive deduction remains the main hurdle keeping Fiji on the blacklist.
Gounder said they are having a review with the EU in the next four to six months, "and with the current circumstances and the situation as we have laid out, we are very confident that we should get out of the blacklist".
He said they will make a decision about the future of the export deduction, and whether they should modify it to suit EU requirements, at a later point.

Man charged after woman assaulted with weapon in Northland

Officers arrested and charged a man following an assault overnight after a woman approached the Whangārei Police Station about 1.30am. At the time, the woman was transported to hospital and treated for moderate injuries, she has since been released from hospital. The two parties were known to each other and police believe there's no wider risk to the public. Police said they're still investigating this incident, other charges are pending but are not seeking anyone else. Online Drug Shopping Lands Waikato Pair In Court
Litres of Fantasy or GBL, pills and other illegal substances ordered through international online sources and imported into New Zealand to be sold in the local Waikato market have been uncovered in a joint operation by Waikato Organised Crime and New Zealand Customs. Earlier this year, staff at Police and Customs identified a spike in the importation of GBL and 1,4-B (a drug similar to GBL), and an investigation was launched. On Tuesday, the Waikato Organised Crime Squad, with assistance from Customs, the Armed Offenders Squad, and other Waikato Police staff executed warrants at two residential addresses and two storage facilities. A total of 4L of 1,4-B, 129 cannabis plants, 1kg of dried cannabis, 100 BZP pills, and ammunition were located across the properties. This follows a previous seizure of 30L of GBL at the border. A 40-year-old man and 42-year-old woman were arrested and charged with a variety of offences including importing a Fantasy type substance, supplying a Fantasy type substance, supplying methamphetamine, cultivating cannabis and supplying cannabis. Detective Inspector Daryl Smith of the Waikato Organised Crime Squad warned those who attempted to buy drugs online that Police and Customs are on to them. 'This investigation sends a message to drug dealers shopping online – you can't hide behind the internet.' This week's warrants also showed the value of the partnership between Customs and NZ Police to tackle international crime syndicates and the importation of illegal drugs into New Zealand, he said. Customs Investigations Manager Dominic Adams said Customs is committed to identifying and disrupting the smuggling of illicit substances into our country. 'This is another great example of the collaborative work between Customs and Police. These arrests have prevented the distribution of harmful drugs into the Waikato, leaving our communities safer as a result.'

Person dies after truck and car crash in central Otago

The crash happened on State Highway 8 between Roxburgh and Millers Flat, shortly after 11am. Fire and Emergency said a person was trapped in the car as a result of the crash. Police said a person died at the scene. State Highway 8 is closed between Roxburgh and Ettrick and diversions are in place.
