Fact Check: Another old photo of Trump and daughter Ivanka makes the rounds again

Yahoo2 days ago
Claim:
An old photo authentically shows U.S. President Donald Trump with his daughter Ivanka Trump sitting on his lap.
Rating:
In mid-July 2025, an old photo resurfaced on social media purportedly showing U.S. President Donald Trump with his then-teenage daughter Ivanka Trump sitting on his lap at what appeared to be a social event.
The photo spread following the release of a July 7 Department of Justice (DOJ) memo stating that the department's review found no incriminating "client list" related to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and no credible evidence that he had blackmailed prominent people.
(Leah McElrath/Bluesky)
For example, on July 17, a Bluesky user posted (archived) the photo and wrote: "So many creepy pics of Trump with Ivanka exist, including this one in which it looks like she's giving him a lap dance."
Similar claims appeared elsewhere on X (archived) and for years had circulated on Reddit (archived and archived). The photo was shared by Trump critics alongside other images of Trump with his daughter at various points in her childhood and teenage years.
The photo was authentic and not digitally manipulated or produced using artificial intelligence (AI). Therefore we have rated this claim as true.
The photo can be found on Getty Images, where the caption states: "Dancing At Mar-A-Lago: Partygoers, including Ivanka Trump (center, in white) who her sits on her father, businessman Donald Trump's lap during concert (by the Beach Boys)."
Getty says it was taken in 1996 at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, showing a social gathering with multiple attendees visible in the background. Trump's second wife Marla Maples was visible seated in the front row left.
This is not the first time Snopes has fact-checked images allegedly showing Trump with his daughter. We have previously investigated other photos showing the pair in various time periods.

Britain, France, Germany call for end to Gaza war as death toll climbs

1 of 3 | Britain, France and Germany are calling for an immediate end Israel's war in Gaza, after dozens of people were killed over a 24-hour period in the Palestinian enclave. Photo by Mahmoud Issa/UPI | License Photo July 26 (UPI) -- Britain, France and Germany are calling for an immediate end to fighting in Gaza after dozens of people were killed over a 24-hour period in the Palestinian enclave. At least 57 people died in Gaza, the Palestinian News Agency reported Saturday, including those killed by airstrikes carried out by the Israeli military. An infant also died from starvation in Gaza, with aid to the territory largely halted. On Friday, Israel said it would give permission to the United Arab Emirates and Jordan to drop aid into Gaza by air. Approximately 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza while waiting for food to be delivered, the United Nations said earlier this week. "The humanitarian catastrophe that we are witnessing in Gaza must end now. The most basic needs of the civilian population, including access to water and food, must be met without any further delay. Withholding essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable," Britain, France and Germany said in the joint statement, while calling for an "immediate ceasefire" and "unconditional release of all hostages." French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday said his country would officially recognize a Palestinian state. "We firmly oppose all efforts to impose Israeli sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Threats of annexation, settlements and acts of settler violence against Palestinians undermine the prospects for a negotiated two-state solution," the joint statement from Britain, Germany and France reads. "We are committed to working together with our international partners, including at the United Nations, to develop a specific and credible plan for the next phase in Gaza that will put in place transitional governance and security arrangements, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid at scale." The statement comes as U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters Friday at the White House that Hamas "didn't really want to make a deal" when asked about the possibility of a ceasefire. Trump spoke to reporters before leaving on a four-day trip to Scotland where he will talk trade with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. "It was too bad. Hamas didn't really want to make a deal. I think they want to die," Trump told reporters Friday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country is "considering alternative options" in the absence of a ceasefire agreement to bring home the remaining hostages held by Hamas. Earlier in the week, 29 countries issued a joint statement condemning the conflict, saying it had "reached new depths," while calling for an immediate end.

Trump administration pushes states to exclude immigrant students from in-state tuition

Discounting tuition for undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children has a long bipartisan history. Texas' law was signed by Republican then-Gov. Rick Perry and 23 red and blue states, plus the District of Columbia, followed, a political mood that's now reversing: Florida repealed its 2014 in-state tuition law this February. There are about 408,000 undocumented students representing less than 2 percent of those in college. The Justice Department argues these tuition laws unfairly offer a benefit to foreigners that is unavailable to U.S. citizens and legal residents living in a neighboring state. The legal offensive to roll back these laws, which is poised to spread, serves as another sign of how thoroughly the second Trump administration is going about enacting the president's promise to discourage illegal immigration and promote 'self-deportation.' 'This was something that used to not be political,' Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, a Democrat, said of the in-state tuition policies for undocumented students. 'It was the idea that if this is the only country you've ever known, that more than likely you will be here your entire life, and we should want you to be educated and productive.' But Kentucky's Republican attorney general, Russell Coleman, sided with Trump this summer, urging the state's council on postsecondary education to 'withdraw its regulation rather than litigate what I believe will be, and should be, a losing fight.' Texas, the first state the DOJ targeted with a lawsuit this year, ended its policy in coordination with the White House. The maneuver came after Attorney General Ken Paxton entered into a joint motion with the Justice Department, agreeing that providing in-state tuition to undocumented students wasn't constitutional. 'In-state tuition for illegal immigrants in Texas has ended,' Republican Gov. Greg Abbott wrote in a post on X last month. The policies are crumbling at a time when college enrollment — and the tuition dollars it brings in — fell about 15 percent between 2010 and 2021, according to the National Center for Education Statistics' most recent report.
