Published on: Sun, Jun 29, 2025 Text Size: TAWAU: The declaration of reserve land for Kampung Iban Merotai is not a political promise, but a long-overdue move approved even before the upcoming state election, said Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah. Speaking at the Gawai Day celebration in the village yesterday, the Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah President stressed that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government, led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, had delivered on a 50-year wait within just three months. 'This isn't an empty promise. After 50 years, the villagers finally received legal land approval. This is a legacy they can pass on for generations,' Liew said. He urged villagers to support the government in the coming polls and dismissed claims that the land approval was an election ploy. 'The land now belongs to the people of Kampung Iban, permanently. Held at SJKC Chung Hwa Likas, the second annual Anugerah Kecemerlangan SPM MADANI ceremony recognised students who scored between 6As and 11As, with RM250 to RM300 awarded per recipient. Special honours went to Soh Yim Qin (10A+) and Mohammad Arif Mohammad Adam (9A+, 1A), both from Tshung Tsin Secondary School. Chan reaffirmed the MADANI Government's commitment to equal access to quality education and welcomed the continued policy of guaranteed matriculation placement for all 10A+ students, regardless of background. Call for polytechnic branch in Kota Marudu for Northern Sabah youths

Former Kota Marudu Assistant District Education Officer, Jimson Majemal, said the town's central location among districts like Kota Belud, Kudat, Pitas, Sandakan, Beluran, and Ranau makes it ideal for such an institution. 'Kota Marudu deserves a polytechnic due to its strategic position and ongoing development,' said Jimson, who is also Acting President of Kota Marudu SAFA. PBS deputy chief denies RM150k mining licence scandal allegations
A senior Sabah minister accused of allegedly receiving RM150,000 for purported approvals of mining licences has denied the claim, which has implicated over a dozen elected representatives under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor's administration. Responding to a Malaysiakini report on June 28, Parti Bersatu Sabah deputy president Jahid Jahim, who is also Sabah rural development minister, denied the allegation by a source who implicated him and five other GRS lawmakers based on screenshots purportedly taken from video recordings.
