Jason Biggs once climbed into trash bin in desperate search for drugs, Entertainment News

AsiaOne09-06-2025
Jason Biggs "climbed into a trash bin" in a desperate search for drugs during an all-night bender.
The American Pie star, 37, is celebrating more than seven years sober after a long battle with addiction issues and he's revealed his low point came during a night at home in 2008, when he threw a bag of cocaine away in a bid to end a drugs binge but ended up sorting through the garbage in a bid to retrieve it.
During an appearance on the Well with Arielle Lorre podcast, Jason explained: "I lived in the gray area, but I have 'snorting dust off the floor' stories or similar to that.
"One of my craziest stories was, I was doing cocaine by myself in my house, and I did what I said was the last line. Within 15 minutes, as soon as my last bump is wearing off, I'm like: 'What am I doing?" I go into my trash, and I take it out, and I do a line ... "
Jason — who would often do drugs alone late at night after his wife had gone to bed — revealed he threw the bag away for a second time when he decided to call it a night, but he ended up going through the trash again.
He went on; "Before I took the Ambien [sleeping pill], I was like: 'One more'. I went outside, and I climbed into the trash bin and got the bag of coke and went upstairs and did another line.
"I was like: 'What the f*** am I doing? This is absolutely insane'."
Jason eventually tried to get sober, but found himself slipping back into bag habits whenever he was alone, adding: "I would find myself alone and isolating, and I would find myself breaking whatever sobriety I had.
"It was incredibly fragile, obviously, in those early days."
However, he credits moving from Los Angeles to New York in 2015 with helping him conquer his demons for good.
He explained: "There's something about the energy of New York that gives me something, that fills me in a way that Los Angeles couldn't.
"But I do believe coming to New York helped me. So, I did fall off the wagon here, but that was seven and a half years ago, and it's been going well."

Down 55% in 5 years, but this FTSE stock offers a 9.5% dividend yield for income investors!

When it comes to high dividend yields, few FTSE stocks come close to beating Ashmore Group's (LSE:ASHM) current 9.5% payout. This yield's largely been driven by management maintaining dividends despite its share price tumbling by more than 50% over the last five years. So if dividends are seemingly here to stay, is this secretly a lucrative opportunity for income investors? The bull case Ashmore's share price weakness since 2020 has been driven predominantly by poor returns within emerging markets. As an investment specialist in this field, performance has suffered greatly as economically weaker countries struggled to handle both the impact of the pandemic and the subsequent macroeconomic headwinds that followed. Consequently, clients started withdrawing their capital, resulting in significant profit and revenue pressure on the business. However, emerging markets have since started rebounding quite significantly. In fact, the MSCI Emerging Market Index is up over 17% in the last 12 months. A weaker US dollar has been quite handy in helping emerging economies get back on their feet. And with businesses reporting recovering growth and earnings, these international stocks have followed suit. This has translated into the outflow of Ashmore's assets under management (AUM) to slow and stabilise. While profits are still significantly below 2021 levels, the firm's cash flow generation remains strong. Hence why management's been able to maintain dividends in spite of all the headwinds. And if emerging markets continue to outperform, Ashmore should have little trouble attracting investors back into the fold. What could go wrong? Even with improving external market conditions, there are still some notable risks that might jeopardise today's impressive dividend yield. Rising geopolitical tensions and conflict escalations could derail the recovery progress made in certain key emerging markets. And even if Ashmore successfully avoids these regions, weak sentiment from risk-adverse investors could still prevent the businesses from delivering strong returns. This scenario is particularly concerning given management is paying out more in dividends than it's actually generating from operations. In the long run, this is unsustainable, likely leading to a dividend cut if AUM and subsequently cash flows don't improve in the short term. Management does have a bit of wiggle room here with around £308m in cash & equivalents on the balance sheet and negligible levels of debts & equivalents. But the general consensus among institutional investors is that unless earnings can recover significantly within the next 18 months, a dividend cut could be unavoidable. The bottom line Ashmore's cyclical downturn appears to have finally reached the bottom with early signs of a recovery starting to kick off. However, there's still a lot of uncertainty regarding how long the recovery will take. And with more money flowing out of the business than coming in, the clock's ticking before management may be forced to cut shareholder payouts. Put simply, this is a very high-risk, high-reward income opportunity in 2025. But, with the business largely dependent on emerging market momentum – something outside of its control – this isn't a risk I'm willing to take. As such, investors may want to consider exploring other high-dividend yield stocks for their portfolios. No tsunami threat to Hawaii from 7-magnitude earthquake near Russia's Kuril Islands, officials say

Hawaii officials have confirmed there is no tsunami threat to the state after a powerful magnitude-7 earthquake struck Russia's Kuril Islands on Sunday. Oahu Emergency Management confirmed the quake posed no danger to Hawaii. The Pacific Tsunami Warning System also reported that no tsunami alert had been issued. The US Geological Survey put it at magnitude 7 while the German Research Center for Geosciences measured the quake at 6.7 magnitude, initially reporting 6.35, with a depth of 10km (6.2 miles). Russia's emergency services said tsunami waves were possible along parts of the Kamchatka Peninsula. The quake comes just days after a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake in the same region triggered tsunami alerts as far away as Japan, Indonesia, Australia, the United States, and Chile. That event was followed by rare volcanic activity in Kamchatka, including the first confirmed eruption of the Krasheninnikov Volcano in 600 years, which scientists believe may have been linked to the earlier quake. More details to follow.

Why Christopher Nkunku has rejected approaches from multiple Premier League teams

He's had a couple of tough years at Chelsea, so it's easy to forget that not long ago Christopher Nkunku was one of the stars of the French national team and one of the country's best regarded players. It's no wonder that L'Equipe did a big report on him and his future yesterday. Teams line up for Nkunku – but no deal coming easily Christopher Nkunku battles for possession against Fluminense.(Photo by) The French paper claim that Nkunku is at a 'pivotal moment in his career', knowing that his 'future with the national team is at stake in the short term.' With a World Cup coming up next summer he wants to be starting and Chelsea can't or won't offer him that right now. The good news is that there is some interest – this report says that Liverpool 'has other plans,' but that Inter Milan are trying to make things work. Bayern Munich are his longest term suitors, although they need to sell before they can buy. Teams from the bottom half of the Premier League have also come forward for the former Leipzig man but been knocked back. It's all promising – but nothing looks ready to happen yet. Inter may fall short in financial stakes for Chelsea star Like many have noted on social media already, we're always sceptical of rumours of Italian interest in our A list players. Serie A clubs just don't tend to have the budget to make those deals worthwhile at the very top end of the scale. There are always exceptions, but given Chelsea will be looking for for something like £40m for Nkunku, we can't see Inter making it work easily. Our best hope of moving the 27 year old on for a good fee seems to still be hoping Bayern have a little squad clearout and summon some funds for him.
