TGSRTC rumbles past 200 crore free trips milestone
Launched on December 9, 2023, the scheme was implemented across Palle Velugu, Express, City Ordinary and Metro Express buses. Of TSRTC's fleet strength of 9,703 buses, 7,913 comprises 5,080 Palle Velugu buses and Express buses, and 2,833 Metro Express and City Ordinary buses.
According to official data, the State government has so far reimbursed ₹6,680 crore based on the trips taken by women passengers. Meanwhile, daily ridership rose from 45.49 lakh to 60.08 lakh, which is a 24% increase. Furthermore, women now account for 66.74% of all passengers, up from 40%. Occupancy ratio improved markedly from 69% as recorded in November 2023 to 97% by June 2025.
'RTC has organised festive programs across the State to mark the completion of 200 crore free journeys for women,' said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka at an event to mark the occasion. 'When the Indiramma government came to power, we started free bus travel for women on RTC on December 9, 2023. Two hundred crore women passengers have travelled for free, saving ₹6,680 crore. Congratulations to them.'
He said that those who once likened RTC to a sinking boat should now reconsider. 'After introducing free bus travel, RTC has now become profitable. It is not a sinking boat, but a government organisation that is making profits,' he said, adding that the State government has so far paid ₹6,680 crore to RTC and will continue to cover the fare of women passengers. 'RTC has grown to the point of buying new buses with the income generated,' he said.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said women have been making use of the scheme to travel to places of employment, worship and shopping. He underscored the government's commitment to strengthening the corporation. He pointed out that in the last decade, the RTC was weakened to the point at which people began to wonder if it would survive. 'Now, RTC is coming out of losses and moving towards profits,' he said.
He said that the government has been procuring new buses, making appointments and repaying employee dues. He also noted that buses have been handed over to women's groups for ownership, with cheques worth ₹1 crore recently issued for 150 buses.
Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said, 'Within two days of our government coming to power, we started free bus travel for women in RTC in the Assembly premises. So far, 200 crore free journeys have been completed, saving ₹6,680 crore.' He said the government aims to make one crore women millionaires and has also enabled women to set up petrol stations.
Events were organised at 97 bus depots and 324 bus stations to mark the milestone. The ministers felicitated drivers and conductors for their contribution in the scheme's success.

Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka dubs BRS as a ‘curse' for Telangana, vows to foil conspiracies against Telangana's interests
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has squarely blamed the previous BRS rulers over the Banakacherla project issue, saying the BRS is a curse on Telangana. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of 10,000 metric ton capacity warehouses at Kamalapuram village in Khammam district on Sunday, Mr. Vikramarka said, 'We will foil the Andhra Pradesh government's conspiracies, protect Telangana's interests and secure the State's rightful share of river waters.' Stating that Telangana faced grave injustice in irrigation during the united Andhra Pradesh, he said, 'That is why all sections of society fought and achieved a separate State. Even now, the same kind of conspiracies are being hatched against our State. Everyone must stay alert and effectively counter them.' He criticised the A.P. government accusing it of initiating construction of illegal projects that threaten to dry up agricultural fields in Telangana. It is only because of the strong arguments effectively presented by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy in New Delhi that the Banakcherla Project was halted, he said. Launching a scathing attack on BRS, Mr. Vikramarka said the BRS rulers remained mute spectators when the Polavaram project was being constructed. 'They welcomed the A.P. leaders with red carpets and mortgaged the interests of our State,' he charged, accusing the BRS leaders of failing to respond when seven mandals of the erstwhile Khammam district were merged with A.P. through an ordinance. We are correcting the mistakes committed by the BRS rulers during their 10-year rule and making concerted efforts to optimally utilise Krishna and Godavari waters for ensuring irrigation to every acre in Telangana, he asserted.

Prepare reports for power generation for next 20 years: Bhatti
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka instructed electricity officials to identify 23 locations across the State to bring into large-scale use power from hydel and pumped storage sources, and submit a comprehensive report. He held a review meeting with GENCO and TRANSCO officials at Somasila in Kollapur constituency on Sunday. He reviewed the hydropower projects on the Krishna River from Jurala to Pulichintala, and suggested that if necessary, the services of globally renowned consultants should be utilised. The Deputy CM appreciated the foresight of the Congress government of 1978, which introduced advanced technologies with the help of world-famous Japanese companies like Toshiba and Mitsubishi, conducting deep studies on reverse pumping systems at the time. He praised the visionary thinking of the leaders and engineers of that era. Further, GENCO directors and officials were instructed to draw up plans for sufficient power generation over the next 10 to 20 years in line with increasing demand. He stressed the need to expand the use of alternative energy sources like Green hydrogen, Floating solar, Rooftop solar, Thermal power, Wind energy and battery storage systems.

CM's push has collectors get cracking to improve governance
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's recent directive to district collectors to conduct regular field visits is gaining momentum, with Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao initiating a structured daily monitoring system to track officials' performance. A streamlined mechanism is now in place to compile comprehensive daily reports outlining proactive steps taken by collectors across the state. During a recent review meeting, the chief minister instructed the chief secretary to submit a daily status report, particularly in light of key issues requiring enhanced supervision, including regulation of fertiliser supply, disease prevention, weather alerts, and ration card distribution. District collectors have since been submitting detailed reports in a standardised format, covering aspects such as inspections of healthcare centres and government hospitals, the number of ration card distribution camps held, and the status of cards issued or pending. Reports also include findings from inspections, deficiencies noted, and actions taken. Revanth Reddy has repeatedly stressed the importance of on-ground inspections to ensure transparency, efficiency, and accountability in governance. Collectors have been asked to conduct surprise visits to schools, colleges, hospitals, and government offices to monitor staff performance and service delivery. To support key welfare initiatives like ration card distribution, midday meals in schools, and construction of Indiramma houses, the CM has directed officials to dedicate the first half of three working days each week to field visits. This directive has begun yielding visible results. Progress is being observed in midday meal implementation, timely distribution of ration cards, and the ongoing construction of Indiramma houses. Collectors have also been instructed to disseminate daily IMD weather forecasts and regularly review rainfall and flood preparedness. As a result of heightened alertness, no major incidents have been reported in the past six months, with emergency response teams and helplines remaining active during heavy rains and other emergencies.
