Kota Kinabalu: Team SLXGRIZZLIES won the men's open title in the Puba 3 x 3 Basketball competition held at the Infinity Sports Arena in Inanam, recently.Second place and third place went to 01 and Dayspring Topten respectively.
Advertisement The women's open title was won by Wasabi followed by Power Puff Girls and Next, while the top three spots in the boys'under-20 went to Kota, MSSM and 3+1. A total of 40 teams including some from the Peninsula took part in the competition jointly organised by Putatan Basketball Association, 361 Malaysia and Crunch Time. Putatan Basketball Association chairman cum competition organising chairman Tai Ket Hau said with the involvement of teams featuring foreign players has raised the level of competition to a new height. He added that as the Chief of the three-on-three basketball development unit in Sabah, he will continue to dedicate more resources and time to promote and develop local three-on-three basketball to improve the standards in Sabah and at the same try to discover more potential players. The closing ceremony was officiated by Deputy Higher Education Minister and Sepanggar Member of Parliament Datuk Mustapha Samud represented by his confidential secretary Rafee Jafree. Malaysia-China Friendship Run 2025' at Padang Merdeka here on Sunday (July 27), with the event scheduled to begin at 6am. Malaysia-China Friendship Association Sabah President Oh Ei Sun said the warm-up will begin shortly after guests arrive, followed by a 6.30am flag-off and a lucky draw session upon completion of the run at 8.30am. Participants will cover a 7-kilometre route along Likas Bay, turning back at the Bay 21 roundabout before finishing back at Padang Merdeka, with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor officiating. Among the notable guests expected are Federal Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, Federal Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin, Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew, Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, Chinese Consul General Zhu Xinglong, Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Tan Lee Fatt, and Deputy Speaker Datuk Richard Yong. Oh extended his gratitude to the State Government, federal ministries, supporting agencies and over 30 sponsors, including platinum sponsor Skechers, for their strong backing. Skechers has also announced the addition of 500 mystery gift boxes worth RM100–RM200 each, raising its total contribution to over RM300,000, including prizes and participant kits. RANAU: A 15-year-old British girl was rescued from Mount Kinabalu after injuring her left knee during her descent near KM6.6 of the trail on Thursday. Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief, Rantey Fred, said emergency services were alerted at 6.40am, and Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) personnel arrived five minutes later to begin the operation. 'When our team arrived at the location situated about 1km from the Mosar post, there was a climber who fell and was injured in the left knee while on his way down from the summit of Mount Kinabalu. 'The team, assisted by Park SAR and mountain guides, provided initial treatment to the victim before transporting the girl down to Timpohon Gate by using Robbinson Stratcher. Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Karate Association (SKA) will be represented by a 22-member squad to compete in the National Martial Arts Championship at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil starting Saturday (July 26). The 12 male athletes in the team are Adlin Vince Viceroy @Irwan (cadet individual kata), Danish Rayyan Rajis (cadet Jeffisten Jeffrin (cadet -57kg), Al-Zovainz Zurizal (cadet-63kg), Leonard Vresley Binajen (cadet-70kg), Gerrard Lady Gary (cadet +70kg), Ryyen Ryye Gerrad Rojin (junior kata), Putra Rayn Nazwan Heryzwan (junior -55kg), Muhd Farish Danish Mohd Saidin (junior -61kg), Mickail Zaquan Zurizal (junior -68kg), Mohd Idzham Zairie (junior -76kg) and Ivan Nicholas Chai (junior +76kg). 'This will be another opportunity for them to gain valuable experience and I hope it will also help them to improve their skills,' he said.
