Patriotic marches fill Pindi streets
In celebration of the success of the Operation Marka-e-Haq against India and the Day of Gratitude, 10 rallies were held in Rawalpindi on Friday.
Rallies were also held by various organisations such as WASA, RDA, PHA, universities and the BISE, alongside flag-hoisting ceremonies.
Patriotic songs were performed during the events. Prior to the rallies, flag-hoisting ceremonies took place, followed by the "Long Live Pakistan" rallies. Throughout the rallies, slogans like "Long Live Pakistan Armed Forces" and "Long Live the Air Force Shaheen" echoed in the air.
The rallies were attended by Commissioner Aamir Khattak, Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema, Regional Police Officer (RPO), City Police Officer (CPO), Station Commander, MNAs, Senator Tahir Orangi Zaib, Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry, Nasir Butt, Abdullah Hamid Gul, and Khan Mohammad Khan, President of Tehreek Jawan-e-Pakistan and Chairman of the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.
The central event took place at the Post Graduate Girls' Waqar-un-Nisa College, where a Civil Defence contingent presented a Guard of Honour to the guests. Participants in the rallies included officials from the Education Board, Railway Workers Union, Corporation Union, and Sanitary Workers from APCA. A large rally was also led by Shirjeel Mir from the Traders' Association.
The day in Rawalpindi began with Quran Khawani. The main ceremony was attended by the Commissioner, RPO, and DC Rawalpindi, along with administrative officers.
Ulama, students, teachers, and individuals from all walks of life participated in the event. A flag-hoisting ceremony was held, and MNA Tahira Orangi Zaib, said, "Today, the entire nation is thankful to Allah for granting us victory over the enemy.

PTI slams sugar price hike, demands judicial inquiry
LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab has strongly condemned what it terms a massive surge in sugar prices, alleging mismanagement, deliberate malpractice in sugar supply, and unchecked empowerment of the sugar mafia. In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, the party demanded that either the official rate of Rs 165 per kg for sugar be strictly enforced or the government should publicly withdraw this promise. It also called for an immediate judicial inquiry into the price hike and duty-free sugar imports. The PTI Punjab further demanded that all sugar import/export permits issued since 2023 be made public, and that strict penalties and legal action be taken against sugar mills violating agreements. The party also urged the reactivation and empowerment of all relevant regulatory institutions, including the FIA, FBR, SECP, and CCP. According to PTI Punjab Media Cell Head Shayan Bashir, 'The sugar mafia, which continues to exploit the public through unjustified profiteering, and their patrons, inept and corrupt rulers, have set the official price of sugar at Rs 165 per kg, yet it is being sold in markets for Rs 180 to Rs 210 per kg.' He added, 'There is no visible check and balance on sugar supply and pricing in the province, which was a clear reflection of the worst kind of mismanagement. The largest province of Pakistan cannot be run through glamorous advertisements and TikTok theatrics. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz may be a good actress in front of the camera, but governance is not run through selfies or reels. Governing a province was not a scripted show; it is the real world, and unfortunately, she has completely failed in it.' Bashir said the ongoing sugar crisis was a glaring example of governmental incompetence and elite favouritism. He alleged that the sugar mill mafia was rewarded through artificial shortages, followed by duty-free sugar imports that benefited select importers while the public suffered due to inflation. 'The powerful few made billions, with full state support,' he said. He further claimed, 'The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has labelled this duty-free import policy a clear violation of Pakistan's economic reform commitments. It not only undermines fiscal discipline but also adds a new burden on an already devastated economy. During the PTI government, an inquiry commission was constituted to investigate the sugar crisis, and all those involved were held accountable; even close allies like Jahangir Tareen were not given any concessions.' Bashir maintained that under the current regime, the public has been crushed under the weight of inflation while the rulers remain apathetic and the media is silent. 'The truth was being buried under a flood of advertisements, and there was no one to hear the public's cry. Even the pain of inflation has now fallen victim to vested interests. Underscoring the importance of modern technologies, Admiral Ashraf stressed the enhanced use of drones and autonomous surface and sub-surface vessels, also known as naval drones, for surveillance and operations at sea. The conference reaffirmed the Navy's commitment to safeguarding Pakistan's maritime interests amid evolving regional and global maritime dynamics.

3 killed, 7 injured as passenger bus comes under fire in Balochistan's Kalat
At least three people were killed and seven others injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus traveling from Karachi to Quetta in the Kalat district of Balochistan, a government spokesperson said Wednesday. According to Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the Balochistan government, 'Three passengers were martyred and seven others were injured in the tragic incident.' The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Kalat for treatment, where an emergency was declared. He said security forces, the district administration, and rescue teams immediately reached the site, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation to track down the attackers. The attack was strongly condemned by Pakistani leaders, who blamed the assault on terrorist elements backed by hostile foreign forces. In a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives in what he called a cowardly terrorist attack by 'Fitna-e-Hindustan', a term used by the government for India-backed militants operating in Balochistan. The prime minister offered prayers for the martyrs and wished a swift recovery for the injured. He directed authorities to provide immediate medical assistance to the wounded and vowed a strong response. 'The terrorists who targeted innocent and unarmed civilians will pay a very heavy price,' he said. 'The government and security forces are fully determined to eradicate terrorism from the country.' Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the attack and described the targeting of innocent passengers as a 'cowardly act.' He said such attacks are part of a wider conspiracy to destabilize the country, adding, 'With the nation's support, we will foil the plots of these Indian-sponsored terrorists.' Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah called the attack 'barbaric,' stressing that such elements must be eliminated to ensure peace and progress. Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Vice President Senator Sherry Rehman also denounced the assault, terming it a 'heinous crime.' She urged the government to take 'decisive and robust action' against the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice.
