Oman: MoL to create 885 jobs in water sector as part of Omanisation drive

Muscat – The Ministry of Labour has launched a joint programme with the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) and Nama Water Services to advance Omanisation efforts in the public sector, with plans to create 885 jobs for Omani nationals.
A formal agreement was signed by H E Sayyid Salim bin Musallam al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Human Resources Development in the Ministry of Labour; Qais bin Saud al Zakwani, CEO of Nama Water Services; and H E Dr Mansour bin Talib bin Ali al Hinai, Chairman of APSR.
The programme will be implemented in two phases. The first phase, already underway, has offered 379 jobs. The second phase will create an additional 406 job opportunities within Nama Water Services.
Zakwani confirmed that candidates selected in the first phase will begin training next week. 'The programme targets an Omanisation rate of 84%.'
The initiative is structured to provide jobseekers with skills and practical experience in the water services sector. It aims to help candidates identify career opportunities, develop in-demand skills, and receive specialised training. Participants will also be assessed to ensure they meet the required standards for employment.
The focus on technical roles supports the government's broader Omanisation goals and reflects a strategy to integrate national talent into vital sectors of the economy. The agreement marks a step forward in creating sustainable employment for Omanis and strengthening the local workforce in essential public services.

An Abu Dhabi investment project worth AED 764.5 million to strengthen tourism in Oman's Salalah has broken ground, with plans to construct a luxury resort and a marina, as the latter looks to diversify its economy. Spanning an area of 2.5 million square metres in Jinawf, Oman, the development aims to significantly enhance the city's tourism infrastructure and capacity through the construction of hospitality facilities and inch closer to the country's national goal of economic diversification. The first phase of the project spans approximately 604,000 square metres, including the construction of a luxury resort which comprises over 120 rooms and chalets, as well as the developments of a marina, the rehabilitation of coastal and beachfront areas, and the implementation of essential infrastructure works - including roads and public utilities. "This project is a testament to the deep-rooted strategic ties between the UAE and Oman," said Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). "The project also reflects our vision of economic diversification and our proactive approach to advancing sustainable development through meaningful regional partnerships and shared prosperity.' Azzan Al Busaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism in Oman, emphasised that the project is expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect job opportunities while stimulating growth across key economic sectors.
