Several shootings in the province have made headlines since September last year.
In January, one incident claimed the lives of six men and left one woman seriously injured in Gqeberha.
When police arrived at the scene at a house in Kani Street, Veeplaas, they found the six bodies strewn across the floor. All six of the deceased were men aged 21 to 27. A 21-year-old woman was found alive in a pool of blood and she was taken to hospital.
In December, four people died in a mass shooting in Mente, near Willowvale, in the Eastern Cape. Gunmen opened fire on four family members travelling in a Toyota Corolla Cross.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said the victims were travelling towards the Willowvale central business district when attackers in two Toyota Avanza vehicles cornered them.
In September, 17 people were killed and a man was seriously injured in two mass shootings in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape. In one house, 12 women and one man were shot dead. In the other, three women and one man were killed, and a man was seriously injured.

Teen stabbed in house party machete brawl

A teen has been rushed to hospital with stab wounds after a wild machete brawl broke out at a house party in Sydney's leafy Chifley suburb overnight on Saturday. Emergency services responded to the brawl about 8.25pm. Paramedics treated a 16-year-old boy at the scene with lacerations to his back and legs and then took him to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition. Police officers from the Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were told five males armed with machetes attended the party uninvited. 'The five males left the location prior to police arrival,' the police said. 'A crime scene was established and police have commenced an investigation into the incident.' The police shut down the party following the incident. Photos from the scene show dozens of police officers in the quiet suburban street. The police have called for anyone with information about the brawl or anyone who might have been in the area with dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact the Maroubra Police Station or Crimestoppers.

New arrest made in Oglethorpe Mall Shooting; SPD confirms suspects have "gang affiliations"

Investigation into the July 2 shooting at Oglethorpe Mall has revealed multiple suspects have "known gang affiliations," according to a Savannah Police Department press release Saturday. Those new details came alongside announcement of an arrest of one adult male for illegal firearm possession in connection with the incident. The suspect was arrested Saturday morning, according to the press release. City officials faced questions of gang involvement from news media and residents online after the shooting. SPD Chief Lenny Gunther said during a press gaggle the night of the shooting that "two groups" shot at each other in the mall, but did not at the time say gang affiliations were involved. 'There can be no tolerance for such meaningless violence in our community,' said SPD Police Chief Lenny Gunther in the most recent press release. 'The Savannah Police Department remains committed to ensuring justice is served.' Recent news: Two suspects served with warrants for felony murder, assault in Oglethorpe Mall shooting The investigation has picked up steam over the weekend. SPD announced just after midnight Saturday that two juveniles were served multiple warrants for charges including felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Other warrants served included possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18, and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime. The Chatham County District Attorney's Office plans to charge both juvenile suspects as adults, Chatham County District Attorney's Office Director of Communications Katherine Wideman said in an email.
