Silver Hill Hospital Signs for MEDITECH Expanse for Integrated and Patient-Centered Care

Business Wire01-05-2025
CANTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Silver Hill Hospital (New Canaan, CT), a nationally recognized psychiatric hospital, announced today it will implement MEDITECH Expanse to enhance care coordination and patient engagement. The independent, not-for-profit hospital will also implement Expanse in its outpatient facility in Midtown Manhattan, which has recently been rebranded as Silver Hill New York.
We're excited to announce Silver Hill Hospital has selected @MEDITECH #Expanse to modernize and unify its EHR system across its care locations. A step forward in delivering integrated, patient-centered behavioral healthcare.

The behavioral healthcare organization selected Expanse to provide an integrated EHR, replacing its current combination of disparate systems and paper-based records with a single, shared, intelligent platform. Expanse will provide a complete set of clinical, administrative, and financial solutions to manage the needs of its patients and their families across the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Silver Hill selected MEDITECH following a full RFP process and evaluation of the three leading EHR providers. The MEDITECH as a Service (MaaS) subscription model delivers the full Expanse platform while reducing the time and cost of procuring, hosting, and maintaining an enterprise-level EHR.
'MaaS was the ideal solution for our organization and IT team,' said Silver Hill Director of IT Melissa Hall. 'It allows us to have all of the features and benefits of a modern system without the overhead associated with an on-prem alternative.'
As a facility that receives referrals from many external organizations, including Yale New Haven Hospital, which uses Epic, interoperability was a key factor considered by Silver Hill's EHR selection committee. As part of the Expanse implementation, Silver Hill will be connected to MEDITECH's nationwide interoperability network, Traverse Exchange. This connectivity will streamline the referral process by enabling Silver Hill to exchange discrete patient information with participating care networks and organizations running different EHR systems.
'The ability to connect directly with our referral partners will open up the door to having a routine exchange of information on both sides of the referral process,' Hall said. 'This will be of tremendous benefit and significantly reduce information loss as patients move between care providers.'
The Expanse implementation will include a new patient portal for enhancing engagement with patients, as well as their family members and caregivers.
'A lot of our patients are adolescents, so their families are very involved in their treatment. This shared portal access will improve engagement by enabling patients and their families to access their information across the care continuum,' Hall said.
'The portal will also streamline admissions by allowing patients to submit questionnaires and forms through the portal before arrival, reducing intake time and getting them treated faster.'
Silver Hill will also deploy Expanse's Business and Clinical Analytics, a business intelligence solution that will deliver real-time, actionable insights for improving operational efficiency, financial performance, and patient outcomes. The hospital plans to use BCA to augment its existing data warehouse.
'We are thrilled to partner with Silver Hill to deliver more connected care with Expanse,' said MEDITECH Vice President Carol Labadini. 'Moving to one shared platform will improve communication, collaboration, and efficiency. Additionally, Traverse Exchange will increase connectivity to external organizations, further elevating the quality of care.'

Physicians Identify Top EHR Issues Requiring Immediate Attention: AI-Powered Documentation Automation Emerges as Leading 2026 Priority, Black Book Annual Survey

Physicians' urgent call for EHR improvements aims to significantly reduce burnout and enhance clinical workflows NEW YORK CITY, NY / ACCESS Newswire / July 11, 2025 / In the face of escalating clinician burnout rates affecting nearly 55% of hospital-affiliated physicians, urgent improvements in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems have become paramount, according to the latest Q2-Q3 polling by Black Book Research. The survey polled 274 physicians and healthcare practitioners affiliated with U.S. hospital health systems, asking each participant to identify their single most critical EHR improvement from six key areas to immediately enhance clinical efficiency and patient care delivery. AI-Powered Documentation Automation emerged as the top urgent priority, selected by 37% of respondents. Physicians underscored the transformative potential of intelligent automation, noting that manual clinical documentation consumes up to half of their daily time. Leveraging artificial intelligence to streamline documentation could significantly alleviate workload pressures and enhance clinician satisfaction. The second-highest priority, cited by 26% of participants, is improving Interoperability andSeamless Data Integration. Respondents highlighted ongoing challenges, with 63% experiencing delays or difficulties accessing critical patient information across different systems weekly. Enhanced data-sharing capabilities and compliance with interoperability standards are considered essential to reducing clinical inefficiencies and supporting high-quality care coordination. Clinician-Centric User Experience (UX) Redesign ranked third, chosen by 17% of respondents. Practitioners emphasized the need for intuitive, physician-driven design, with 72% stating current EHR interfaces contribute significantly to workplace frustration and fatigue. Enhanced Clinical Decision Support (CDS) tools, prioritized by 12% of participants, highlight physicians' desire for fewer but more relevant alerts. Mobile and Device-Agnostic Access (7%) underscores growing demand for flexible EHR platforms accessible across various devices, particularly given that 80% of respondents regularly access patient data remotely. Rapid System Responsiveness, selected by 4%, points to frustrations with slow EHR system performance, with 51% of physicians experiencing productivity-impacting lag time or downtime at least monthly. The survey also revealed clear physician expectations of EHR vendors: 78% expect significant system improvements by year-end 2025. 42% expressed willingness to switch vendors if substantial improvements are not delivered within two years. 86% confirmed they had formally communicated these concerns to their EHR vendors, underscoring the urgency of action. 'Physicians have clearly articulated the areas where EHR systems continue to hinder rather than help,' said Doug Brown, Founder of Black Book Research. 'Addressing these top concerns, particularly documentation automation and interoperability, is critical not only to reducing clinician burnout but to ensuring consistent and high-quality patient care. EHR vendors and healthcare IT departments must swiftly respond to these priorities to maintain clinician trust and satisfaction.' Gas service returns to Bold Street building after 45 days without use of stoves, hot water

Gas was restored to a Bold Street apartment building on Monday after about a month-and-a-half without service — but residents remain without air conditioning. The utility was shut off at the Durand building on May 24, days after a retaining wall between 27 Bold St. and neighbouring properties collapsed. On June 12, the city issued Burlington-based property manager Valour Group an order to restore gas, a vital service, to the building within 48 hours, said acting bylaw director Dan Smith in an email. It wasn't restored until July 7, when Valour's contractor connected the gas meter in the building's mechanical room, and Enbridge Gas inspected and restored the service, president Richard G. Hall said in an email earlier this week. Without hot water for showers and use of their stoves for about 45 days, some tenants temporarily relocated with family and friends, while others stayed home, shelling out for appliances like toaster ovens and air fryers, and ready-made meals and takeout. Valour says it has waived rent for June and July. The city has also issued an order to fix the building's broken central air system by July 16 under a bylaw that states existing appliances must be kept in safe, working order. Tenants who have sweltered through recent heat waves say the system hasn't worked since at least May. Valour discovered a broken coil in the building's cooling tower and is waiting on replacement parts, Hall previously told The Spec. He said there is an up to 10-week wait to get parts from the manufacturer, which has delayed repairs. 'We are working to have the building's cooling tower repaired as soon as possible,' Hall said. The company has offered tenants $350 each for portable A/C units. But some tenants say that's not enough to cover equipment, plus increased hydro costs from A/C units and other appliances, like microwaves and toaster ovens. Ally Adamczyk, for one, 'splurged' on a second unit amid spiking summer temperatures. She says the portable units don't adequately cool her two-bedroom apartment on the second floor. As of Tuesday, tenants weren't aware of a timeline on A/C repairs, she said. Some say these issues, coupled with what they describe as poor communication from the landlord, have caused stress and frustration. Residents formed a tenants' union with help from advocacy group Hamilton ACORN last month, and have requested a meeting with Valour to present compensation demands. 'I have a strong feeling it will be a long fight for the A/C and the compensation,' Adamczyk said. Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. There was a problem with the recaptcha.
