Alabama lands commitment from local standout, 2026 in-state linebacker
On Friday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide landed a commitment from a local product, as in-state standout Zay Hall announced that he had committed to the program. Hall is the sixth different player to commit to Alabama so far this week, as well as the third within the past two days alongside the four-star duo of Ezavier Crowell and Mack Sutter. At the moment, Hall is currently considered as the nation's No. 1,148 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. A three-star prospect, Hall is also ranked as the nation's No. 127 overall linebacker, as well as the No. 55 player in the state of Alabama where he attends Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa. The three-star prospect is the first linebacker commit in Alabama's class, as well as the fourth from in-state where he is joined by the aforementioned Crowell (Jackson), Zyan Gibson (Gadsden City), and Kamhariyan Johnson (Muscle Shoals). Alabama's class has now cracked the Top 10 of the 247Sports Team Rankings as well, sitting at No. 10 with a total of 13 commitments. Former Jets teammate sets the record straight on 'misunderstood' Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers has no shortage of critics — but if you asked his former Jets teammate Breece Hall, he's simply misunderstood. On a special Fanatics Fest edition of Da Get Got Pod with Marshawn Lynch and Mike Robinson, Hall shared his honest feelings on Rodgers and his short-lived tenure with the Jets: "Very misunderstood person," Hall said. "Great dude, comes off to people a certain way. But once you really get to know him, you realize how good of a person he is. Last year, when you're losing games, the blame gets put on the faces of the team, and it just so happened to be guys like me, Sauce [Gardner], Garrett [Wilson], Aaron [Rodgers], Quinnen [Williams], and Quincy [Williams]. "I feel like when you're losing, somebody has to get let go — but what people don't realize is when stuff is crazy organizationally, then it's hard for players to have stability and win games. … But I love Aaron. Me and him still have a great relationship to this day. That's my guy.' Many argued Rodgers was heavily at fault for the 2024 Jets' disaster — but Hall clearly believes the blame goes far deeper than any one player. In his short time with the Steelers, Rodgers' display of generosity in mentoring rookie Will Howard — and the respect he's earned from teammates and coaches in Pittsburgh — has proved Hall's point that the four-time MVP isn't as complicated or egocentric as critics make him out to be. Northop Hall will look to their threatening attack again
Hall are one of three teams battling for the two promotion spots and bowling has proved to be a real strength of the side, who head to Wavertree tomorrow. Paul Jenkins finished with a superb six for 54 return in 21.5 overs during the eight-wicket success versus St Helens Town last time out and he was well supported by Carwyn Johnson (3-41) and James Hurlin (1-24). Slater said: 'It was really comfortable and Paul Jenkins bowled an excellent spell, well supported by Carwyn and James. We've not played everyone just yet, but as in an overall attack it's definitely one of the best in the league. 'Ainsdale have a very good attack, so ours is up there.' Matthew Jones (57 not out) and Slater (31 not out) led Hall to their latest success. 'I think one of those things over the last couple of weeks, if the top order aren't scoring runs, the middle order can all score runs,' added the skipper, who will welcome Finley Jenkins back into the line-up for tomorrow's away encounter. Northop Hall will be looking to achieve their eighth triumph of the campaign tomorrow, but Slater is not anticipating an easy contest versus sixth-placed Wavertree. 'They are a good side and they are always a solid team,' he added. 'They can bat time if they need to.' Hall Seconds will look to make the most of home comforts versus Wavertree Seconds. It's about making a return to winning ways for Chirk in Shropshire League action tomorrow. Following a decent spell in Division One, Liam Walker's side lost out by four wickets at Bomere Heath in their most recent encounter. A better outcome will be the aim as Chirk host mid-table rivals Worfield Seconds tomorrow. In Division Seven, Chirk Seconds pay a visit to Condover Seconds.

North Carolina has two HBCUs on 2025-2026 schedule
North Carolina has officially announced its 2025–2026 non-conference men's basketball schedule, which includes two matchups against in-state HBCUs - Winston-Salem State and North Carolina Central. The Tar Heels will host Winston-Salem State on October 29 in an exhibition game, followed by a regular season contest against North Carolina Central on November 14. The games continue a meaningful tradition of North Carolina engaging with HBCUs, highlighting the state's rich basketball history and cultural connections. The Tar Heels last played Winston-Salem State to open the 2019–2020 season, earning a 96–61 win. That WSSU team would go on to win the CIAA championship under head coach Cleo Hill Jr., proving itself as one of the top programs in Division II HBCU basketball. North Carolina's last contest against North Carolina Central came during the pandemic-impacted 2020–2021 season. Despite being heavily favored, UNC had to battle for a 73–69 win over the Eagles, showcasing the competitive edge of HBCU programs even against traditional basketball powerhouses. This year's matchups hold special resonance for UNC head coach Hubert Davis. A native of Winston-Salem, Davis has personal ties to HBCUs - his father played at Johnson C. Smith University, a fellow CIAA member alongside WSSU. In 2022, Davis received the Clarence "Big House" Gaines Coach of the Year award, named in honor of the legendary WSSU head coach and Naismith Hall of Famer. These games provide valuable exposure and experience for HBCUs while giving North Carolina a chance to honor its connections to Black college basketball culture. For WSSU and NCCU, the opportunity to compete in Chapel Hill adds another layer of visibility and challenge for their respective programs. As UNC prepares for another season with national expectations, these early-season contests against HBCUs will serve as both a competitive tune-up and a celebration of North Carolina's deep basketball roots across all divisions.
