Hyd top cop joins Lal Darwaza Bonalu festivities, assures full security
The Commissioner recalled that the Lal Darwaza Simhavahini Sri Mahankali Temple is a historically significant temple. In 1908, severe floods caused by heavy rains and a widespread plague epidemic in the areas surrounding this temple led to the deaths of approximately 50,000 people. At that time, Hyderabad's population stood at 4 lakh. Upon the advice of Prime Minister Kishen Pershad, the then Nizam, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan, arranged special prayers for the Goddess. 'Following these prayers, the Musi River floods subsided, and the epidemic receded. Since then, it has been a tradition to celebrate Bonalu during the Ashadha month,' stated CV Anand.
On this occasion, the Commissioner stated that the Police Department has made all necessary security arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents. He recalled that the Golconda Bonalu and Balkampet Bonalu were conducted peacefully.

Encroachment, road block complaints dominate HYDRAA Prajavani in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: As many as 61 complaints were received during the HYDRAA Prajavani held on Monday. The grievances were reviewed by HYDRAA Additional Director Varla Papayya, who also verified details using Google Maps. HYDRAA officials explained the status of the issues to complainants and assigned them to the departments concerned for resolution. In Kondapur, residents complained that a 40-foot road opposite Preston IVY Apartments, near Raghavendra Shelters Colony, had been closed off by locals. They alleged that access to the public park was blocked as the road between plot numbers 9 & 23 and 44 & 53 had been shut. They also said another 40-feet road between plot numbers 22 & 23 and 24 & 26 had been encroached upon by around seven feet. They urged officials to reopen the roads immediately. In Gajularamaram, residents raised concerns about encroachment on over 271 acres of government land in survey numbers 307/1 and 308/2,3,5. The land, earlier reclaimed from the APSFC, is now allegedly being encroached upon again. Locals demanded immediate action to prevent further occupation. In the Dhulapally Industrial Area under Kompally Municipality, a layout approved in 1967 comprised 1,696 plots and four designated parks. According to members of the Colony Welfare Association, two of these parks fall within the Fox Sagar Full Tank Level (FTL) boundary, while the remaining two have been encroached upon by the heirs of the original layout developers. The association has demanded that all four parks be restored and made accessible for public use. Members of the Fishermen's Association from Pedda Cheruvu, Mettukanigudem, appealed to HYDRAA to protect the 26.3-acre tank from encroachments. They claimed that nearly six acres had already been occupied and attempts were being made to cover up further encroachments. They urged the government to protect and develop the lake to support their livelihoods. GHMC registers 170 grievances The GHMC received 72 grievances during its Prajavani held at the head office on Monday. The Town Planning wing received the highest number of complaints (39), followed by Engineering (10), Sanitation and Health (7), Finance (4, and Tax (3). Additionally, GHMC's six zonal offices received 98 complaints. The distribution is as follows: Kukatpally zone (34), Serilingampally (18), Secunderabad (16), LB Nagar (15), Charminar (13), and Khairatabad (2).

HYDERABAD: Door-to-door postal services, classified as essential operations face several significant challenges, with postmen encountering obstacles while delivering important documents, including passports, driving licences, Aadhaar cards, and various parcels, both domestic and international. These difficulties arise from restrictions imposed by resident welfare associations (RWAs) in gated communities, high-rise flats, and multi-storey buildings. According to the postal department, delivery staff frequently face issues such as being denied access by security personnel, being prohibited from using passenger lifts, having to leave delivery vehicles unattended due to a lack of designated parking, and other such delays. The postmaster general has brought these concerns to the attention of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), urging RWAs to grant postmen unrestricted access for doorstep delivery. The use of passenger lifts must be permitted without discrimination, and safe, designated parking spaces must be made available for delivery vehicles. However, RWAs have raised concerns, stating that postal workers are sometimes dressed in civilian clothing and fail to present identification during security checks. "While we have no objection to govt employees such as postal staff, identity verification is essential to maintain security protocols and prevent potential incidents," said Sai Ravi Shankar, president of the federation of gated communities, Cyberabad. GHMC commissioner RV Karnan has instructed security personnel at RWAs to ensure postal workers are granted unhindered access. "All concerned are reminded that obstructing a govt servant from performing official duties is a punishable offence under Section 221 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023. Legal action may be taken in cases of continued non-compliance," he said. Meanwhile, the civic chief's directive to RWAs to permit postmen to use lifts in high-rise buildings has brought to light a similar issue affecting delivery executives. The Telangana gig and platform workers union (TGPWU) has raised concerns with the civic body. "A notice from a high-end residential complex imposing a 500 fine on domestic workers, vendors, and delivery personnel for using passenger lifts has come to the union's attention. Delivery executives working with on-demand platforms routinely face such discriminatory practices," said Shaik Salauddin, president of the TGPWU.

Rangam 2025 at Ujjaini Mahakali: Oracle predicts abundant rains for Telangana
The traditional Rangam or soothsayer ritual, one of the most awaited events during the Bonalu festival, was held with fervent devotion at the Sri Ujjaini Mahakali Temple in Secunderabad on Monday (July 14, 2025). This year's oracle voice struck a deeply stirring and cautionary tone. Beginning with blessings and praise for the people's devotion, the possessed woman conveyed the goddess's happiness over the offerings made in her honour. Yet, her words soon turned to warning. The tradition believed to embody direct communication between the goddess Mahakali and her devotees, a woman — known as Vishwamatta or Shakti — in divine trance made predictions and emotional appeals for the year ahead. 'To all my people, to all my children, I am very happy. I have been blessed with wealth for a long time but every year, you play games with me. I have been saying this for seven years, you do not listen,' the oracle declared. The temple priest, representing the voice of the devotees, sought forgiveness and asked for guidance. The exchange that followed was emotionally charged, as the goddess demanded a greater degree of devotion and sacrifice, symbolised through the repeated phrase, 'Show me blood.' While acknowledging that pujas and offerings had been conducted well, the oracle stressed that it was not enough. 'I carried you in my womb, I protected you. but my patience is wearing thin,' she said. Among the moments of the ceremony was a prophecy foretelling a possible pandemic and the danger of fires in the near future. 'In the coming days, there will be a pandemic. You should be careful. Follow the rules. There will also be fire danger. I am warning you now,' she said. In response to the priest's enquiry about rainfall and harvests, traditionally foretold during the Rangam, the oracle offered some optimism. 'Yes, this year the rains will be good. The crops will be good. There will be sweets and festivals,' she said, before returning to a more somber tone. 'This year, it is my turn to stand. Show me blood. If you do not, I will not stay quiet' she warned. The ritual concluded with the priest bowing in prayer, seeking peace and reassurance. 'Don't show me blood. Bless me. Next year, everything will be fine. With your blessings, we will celebrate this festival.' Shortly after the Rangam, Telangana's Minister for BC Welfare and Civil Supplies, Ponnam Prabhakar, addressed the media and reiterated the State government's commitment to the Bonalu tradition. Referring to the prophecy of good rains and harvests, he said, 'It is a good sign for farmers and for people across the State. For everyone to live in happiness, the goddess has given her blessings.' He added that all rituals prescribed by shastra would be performed under official supervision through the Endowments Department. 'As instructed by the goddess through the prophecy, the State will respond with full responsibility,' he said.
