Zakaria El Jamari Suffers First-Round Knockout Defeat at ONE 172: Takeru vs Rodtang in Japan
The flyweight kickboxing bout was the second on a blockbuster card which witnessed four world title bouts and a long-awaited flyweight kickboxing super-fight between iconic striking duo Takeru Segawa and Rodtang Jitmuangnon at Saitama Super Arena.
El Jamari started the fight well, launching kicks to Japanese counterpart Hyu Iwata's midsection. While the 35-year-old Moroccan showed composure in his defense, his undefeated opponent kept pushing forward, attempting to corner the Moroccan.
Hyu finally managed to get the Moroccan to back up into the corner, throwing two quick jabs with his right hand, creating an opening for a vicious left knee to El Jamari's head, causing the latter to collapse.
With El Jamari unable to continue, the referee called an end to the matchup at 2:12 of the first round awarding the young Japanese star a memorable win via knockout.
The loss is El Jamari's third straight knockout defeat in ONE Championship after suffering the same outcome against Thailand's Aliff Sor Dechapan and Colombia's Johan Estupinan.
The three-time Arab Muay Thai champion last won against Thai fan favorite Thongpoon PK Saenchai via unanimous decision in May 2024 after an action-packed bout.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Hyu displayed his big talents once again as he raised his clean kickboxing overall record to 11-0 with his third straight win from three ONE Championship bouts.

CHAN 2024: When and How to Watch Morocco vs Angola Opener
Morocco will kick off its participation in the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), with a game against Angola today as part of Group A. The game will take place at Nairobi's Nyayo National Stadium at 4 p.m. Moroccan time. Several channels will air the game, including BeIN Sports, Canal+, Morocco's Arryadia TV, in addition to CAF TV. Morocco's giants are dominating the tournament, as they claimed two trophies in the competition's history in 2018 and 2020. Head coach Tarik Sketioi is determined that his superstars win a third title this year. The coach emphasized the importance of the first game, saying it is 'very important to approach the first match with a victory.' He said this will allow the players to gain more confidence and a positive state of mind. The Atlas Lios were beaten in 13 CHAN matches. They won 11 games and secured two draws. CHAN's 2024 will mark their fifth appearance in the competition's final. Angola is aware that they are facing a giant this evening. Angola head coach Pedro Goncalves said the team is 'strong' and 'wants to win.' 'But so do we. And I'm confident that hunger won't exceed ours,' he said. CHAN this year is taking place in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. This is the first time for the competition to take place in three countries. Group A, where Morocco is placed, also includes Kenya, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. 'Morocco's ambition is clear — to win the title and reinforce their status as a powerhouse of local football on the continent,' the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Many expect the Moroccan team to win tonight. But as every coach says, no match is an easy game in Africa. Tags: AngolaCHAN 2024Morocco

Moroccan coach Tarik Sektioui eyes crucial victory against Angola in CHAN 2024 opener
On Saturday in Nairobi, national coach Tarik Sektioui emphasized the importance of the Moroccan local players' team securing a win against Angola on Sunday in their Group A encounter at the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024). He described the victory as «crucial for the continuation of the competition». «For us, it's vital to start the tournament with a win to boost the players' confidence and foster a positive mindset», Sektioui remarked during the pre-match press conference ahead of the Morocco-Angola clash, which is set for Sunday at 4:00 PM in Nairobi. He acknowledged the challenge posed by Angola, noting that «the match against Angola won't be easy because they are a strong team with significant potential and a coach experienced in African competitions». However, he assured that «our objectives are clear; we are determined to win this match and have prepared thoroughly for it». Reflecting on the team's preparation for CHAN, Sektioui explained, «We initially started with players born in 2000 and later, but the unexpected departure of 11 players to new clubs and injuries to two others impacted our preparations». He added that «the players selected for the final roster have demonstrated technical and tactical maturity, which we will leverage to advance well in this championship». He underscored his primary goal of advancing beyond the group stage with an eye on the title, highlighting the challenges of assembling a competitive squad within a limited timeframe. «Moroccan teams are now aiming for titles and nothing but titles. We have the ambition to honor Moroccan football, even though we have inherited a tough group with strong teams that we respect.» Team captain Mohamed Rabie Hrimat echoed this sentiment, stating that «the national team is determined to win the trophy and the players are aware of the responsibility that lies with them».

Coach Sektioui: Morocco Must Win Opener to Boost Confidence at CHAN 2024
Rabat – Morocco's local team coach, Tarik Sektioui, spoke to the media today ahead of their opening CHAN 2024 game, saying it is crucial to secure three points against Angola. He said a strong start would lift the players' morale and increase their chances of advancing far in the competition. The team will face Angola in their first match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024). The game will take place on Sunday in Nairobi, Kenya, as part of the group stage. 'We are well aware of the responsibility on our shoulders, and we know that we will play against a strong team, a favorite to win this edition of CHAN, with many advantages, and a coach with great experience,' Sektioui noted. 'It is smart and professional to respect all opponents,' the coach added. The Moroccan team has two main goals in this competition: to qualify for the second round by winning the first match, and to compete for the title and honor Moroccan football, he said. CHAN 2024 will be held in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, with Morocco playing its matches in Nairobi's Nyayo Stadium and Moi International Sports Center. After the opening game against Angola at Nyayo Stadium, Morocco will face Kenya on August 10 at the Moi Sports Center in Kasarani.
