Fire continues to rage at scrap yard
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) said it was called to the London Scrap Terminal in Northfleet Mill in Crete Hall Road, Gravesend, shortly after 02:00 BST on Monday.
On Tuesday morning, 25 fire fighters were still working to put out the "deep seated" fire, which has seen an estimated 5,000 tonnes of scrap metal caught alight.
The fire service is asking residents nearby to keep windows closed as there is heavy smoke in the area.
The fire service is using a high-volume pump to take water from the nearby estuary to tackle the fire.
Jim Chaston, from KFRS, said: "We working really hard, with great help from the on-site staff using their heavy machinery, to work our way into the hotspots."
Mr Chaston said he expects crews to remain at the scrap yard until "at least tomorrow".
"From there, it's really about how quickly we can work our way into the pile," he said.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, Mr Jones added.

Yellowstone bison nearly delivers knockout blow to pesky wolf, video shows
Wolves in Yellowstone National Park will sometimes test their predation skills on lone adult bison. But there can be painful consequences. The accompanying footage, captured by Billy Fabian while on a Jackson Hole Ecotours expedition, shows a wolf receiving a powerful kick to the face after carelessly nipping the bison from behind. 'That animal's hurt,' the narrator says. The wolf is clearly dazed and, as Fabian stated via Instagram, 'It took a while for the wolf to shake it off and it still could have a broken jaw or other injury.' RELATED: Yellowstone black bear euthanized after becoming threat to campers Fabian explained that the wolves, from the Junction Butte Pack, had initially attempted to single out calves from the bison herd. When that failed, they went after the exhausted adult bison. (In the footage, part of the bison herd is looking on from across the river.) The bison that fell under attack 'made good his escape to live another day.'

ZURICH (AP) — England defender Jess Carter says she has been subject to racial abuse online at the Women's European Championship. Carter came in for a lot of criticism for her performance during England's opening loss to France. And some of that has crossed the line even as the 27-year-old and the Lionesses have reached the semifinals at Euro 2025. 'From the start of the tournament I have experienced a lot of racial abuse,' Carter wrote in an emotional post on Instagram on Sunday. 'Whilst I feel every fan is entitled to their opinion on performance and result I don't agree or think it's ok to target someone's appearance or race.' Carter, who has made 49 appearances for England and plays for Gotham FC, says she will be taking a step back from social media. 'As ever I am grateful for all of the support from the genuine fans but I am taking this measure to protect myself in a bid to keep my focus on helping the team anyway I can,' she added. The Football Association has contacted police back in the United Kingdom. 'Our priority is Jess and giving her all the support she needs,' FA CEO Mark Bullingham said.
