Time of India16-06-2025
Varanasi: Chief minister
Yogi Adityanath
warned the working agencies, including PWD, Jal Nigam and UP Bridge Corporation, not to miss the deadline for the ongoing projects.
While reviewing progress in the ongoing development works and also law and order at the circuit house auditorium on Monday evening, Yogi specifically instructed that ongoing development projects in the district be completed within the stipulated timeframe through a campaign on a war-footing.
Upon becoming aware that many projects run by agencies like PWD, UPBC and UPJN in the district were not on schedule, he said that an extension in time for completion of projects leads to unnecessary expenses and affects quality.
Therefore, ensure that all projects are completed on time and with quality, said Yogi, mentioning that timely completion of projects benefits people as per the govt's intent.
Seeking details on the plantation drive for the year, Yogi asked for organised tree planting on road medians and proper irrigation arrangements for it.
He directed that street vendors be organised to avoid obstruction at city intersections and crowded places.
He emphasised that no road should be dug without permission. Departments responsible for road digging should restore roads promptly and efficiently, considering public movement. "There should be no negligence at any level in the implementation of development projects," he said, adding, "Before the monsoon, 100% cleaning of drains and sewers must be ensured as a priority to prevent waterlogging in the city.
The silt removed during cleaning should be immediately disposed of.
" He also instructed police and administrative officers to ensure prompt resolution of public issues and to strengthen law and order. He directed the municipal corporation to focus on urban cleanliness and the panchayati raj department on rural sanitation. Yogi also mobilised officials by mentioning that being posted in the ancient city of Kashi, a centre of Sanatan Dharma, is a matter of fortune for all, hence each department should perform better.
The CM said that all departments should conduct public hearings promptly and resolve complaints received through IGRS, CM Helpline with quality assurance.
"Illegal mining should be strictly stopped, and those involved should face stringent action," he said. Yogi also reviewed preparations for International Yoga Day on June 21 and said that the events should be organized grandly with public participation. Asking to prioritise the restoration of rivers, Yogi directed officials to create an effective action plan with public involvement for the restoration of Varuna and Assi.
Under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, he directed extensive tree plantation and the development of city forests. "Public participation with voluntary and social organizations should be ensured in this work," he said.
Asking police officials to improve performance, he emphasized stricter measures to check crime against women and children. He said that cases related to revenue should be resolved within a set timeframe.
"Keep an eye on road safety and cattle smuggling and increase foot patrolling. The functioning of police stations and lines should be regularly reviewed. Police personnel should not be assigned long-term duties in border areas," he said.
"Regular reviews should be conducted to effectively curb cattle smuggling and those involved in the practice should be identified and dealt with strictly," the CM added.
Yogi asked VDA to promote activities near international cricket stadium at Ganjari Stadium. He also reviewed the process of map approvals and pending cases.

'Triumph Of All Patriots': Pragya Singh Thakur Reacts To Acquittal In 2008 Malegaon Blast Case

Last Updated: The NIA special court in Mumbai on Thursday acquitted all seven accused, including Pragya Singh Thakur, in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. Former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur on Saturday called her acquittal by the court in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case a victory of 'Sanatan Dharma" and 'all patriots". The NIA special court in Mumbai on Thursday acquitted all seven accused, including Pragya Singh Thakur, in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. 'The Congress, along with all other non-believers, who are the originators of saffron terrorism and Hindu terrorism, have been disgraced. The victory of saffron, Hindutva, and Sanatan has led to the triumph of all Sanatanis and patriots, many congratulations," she said in an X post. भगवा आतंकवाद और हिन्दू आतंकवाद के जन्मदाता कांग्रेस सहित सभी विधर्मियों का मुंह हुआ काला..भगवा ,हिंदुत्व और सनातन की विजय पर समस्त सनातनियों और देशभक्तों का हुआ बोलबाला बहुत-बहुत बधाई….जय हिन्दूराष्ट्र, जय श्री राम…— Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur (@sadhvipragyag) August 1, 2025 During the verdict, the court noted that the prosecution had failed to establish the case beyond a reasonable doubt, leading to the acquittal of the accused, including Pragya Singh Thakur, Major (retired) Ramesh Upadhyay, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhankar Dhar Dwivedi (also known as Shankaracharya), and Sameer Kulkarni. The court concluded that there was no evidence indicating explosives were stored or assembled at the home of Prasad Purohit, another accused in the case. The court directed the Maharashtra government to compensate the blast victims, granting Rs 2 lakh to the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 to the injured. Over the course of the trial, testimonies from 323 prosecution witnesses and 8 defence witnesses were reviewed before the final decision. All the accused were cleared of charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act, and other related laws. The case stems from a blast on September 29, 2008, when a bomb attached to a motorcycle exploded near a mosque at Bhikku Chowk in Malegaon, killing six people and injuring 95 others. view comments First Published: August 02, 2025, 07:07 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘UP saw dismantling of criminal network under Yogi in 8 years'

Lucknow: Highlighting the "immense changes" in law and order in the state since the BJP came to power in 2017, a govt spokesperson outlined the condition of Uttar Pradesh before 2017 and now. Following CM Yogi Adityanath's rise to power, the administration initiated a series of decisive actions to dismantle the criminal network that had taken root. Since the BJP came to power, there was a surge in police action against gangsters, seizure of illegal properties, and court trials were fast-tracked. There was a crackdown on unlawful religious conversions and the drug mafia. This, said the official, saw a sharp decline in criminal activity. "Under its zero-tolerance policy on crime, the state govt over the past eight years has seen over 240 dangerous criminals being killed in police encounters. During this time, the police carried out more than 15,000 encounters, arresting over 30,000 criminals. More than 9,000 criminals were injured in these operations," said the official. The govt cracked down on illegal properties of criminals, which broke the backbone of the mafia network and boosted public trust in the govt. As per govt data, illegal assets worth more than Rs 14,200 crore were seized or destroyed over the past eight years. Under 'Operation Conviction', about 1 lakh criminals have been convicted so far, which includes nearly 10,000 criminals sentenced to life imprisonment for crimes like rape, murder, and organised crime. Another 68 criminals have been sentenced to death. On average, courts are resolving 143 cases daily and punishing 187 criminals each day thanks to strong legal efforts, the official added. To crack down on the illegal drug trade, the govt has carried out large-scale operations, which include raids on fake liquor factories and inter-state mafia networks. Illegal liquor has been destroyed, and thousands of smugglers were arrested. An Anti-Narcotics Task Force was also set up, which has helped in the recovery of illegal drugs worth over Rs 2,737 crore and the registration of more than 30,000 cases. The govt went all out against illegal conversions, passing the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021, under which hundreds of people have been arrested, and several organised conversion rackets have been busted, claimed the official, citing the recent crackdown on Jalaluddin alias Changur, a key accused in an illegal religious conversion network. The state govt's policy, which the CM reiterates publicly at every occasion, is that a criminal will either be in jail in UP or out of the state.

Road digging without PWD nod to be banned to curb accidents: Goa CM Pramod Sawant

Porvorim: Underscoring the state's road safety crisis, chief minister Pramod Sawant said that the current road accident fatality rate exceeds that of Covid-19. 'People would stay at home for the fear of Covid-19 when one to two people lost their lives every day,' Sawant told the House. 'Now, on an average, two people die in road accidents in Goa every day.' Replying to the calling attention motion on rising accidents, the CM said that state govt will soon impose a 100% ban on road digging without prior permission from the PWD. A circular to this effect will be issued shortly, he said. The calling attention motion was moved by MLAs Vijai Sardesai, Carlos Ferreira, Viresh Borkar, Venzy Viegas, Yuri Alemao, Cruz Silva, and Altone D'Costa. The motion pointed to the rising number of fatal accidents attributed to poor road maintenance despite Supreme Court directives and state govt orders. Sawant acknowledged that nearly 50% of accidents in Goa are due to poor road conditions and signal issues, with a lack of coordination among departments being a primary reason. 'Roads repaired by one agency are often dug up soon after by another,' he said. To address this issue, Sawant said govt will recover road digging and repair costs from contractors who proceed without the PWD's permission. The chief minister also announced that utility ducts for cabling and piping works will be made mandatory during the construction of major roads, a measure aimed at preventing repeated digging. Sawant said that stress will be laid on strengthening road engineering to improve construction standards. A specialised team has been formed to identify accident-prone black spots across the state, enabling targeted interventions in high-risk areas, he said. Govt has already taken several initiatives in compliance with the guidelines of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, Sawant said. He said these include the restoration of crash barriers, construction of standardised speed breakers, implementation of speed limits, installation of traffic signboards and road markings, and median plantation projects. He said show-cause notices have been issued to defaulting contractors, with rectification work being carried out at contractors' expense during the defect liability period.
