We've made huge strides as a team to be in contention at 24 Hours of Le Mans: Charlie Eastwood
It is the only extended non-timed running they can take advantage of around the famous Circuit de la Sarthe before free practice on Wednesday and then qualifying later that day.
After the 2024 edition, Eastwood said he was 'super proud' of his team's efforts despite a chronic lack of straight-line performance starving them of real LMGT3 action. At the end of almost 270 laps and 2,260 competitive miles, they crossed the line 15th in class.
However, considerable work has been going on behind the scenes since then to hone and improve Corvette Racing's TF-Sport-run LMGT3 challenger – the Z06 GT3.R – with most of the engineers' focus centring on Le Mans, the blue-riband meeting on the WEC calendar.
Eastwood – a class winner at the Le Mans when he was part of the Aston Martin Racing family back in 2020 – continues his partnership with Rui Andrade and Tom Van Rompuy.
'Both Rui and Tom are driving incredibly well,' said Eastwood. 'We love the car, and we are able to extract speed out of it.
'So, from our side, when you look at the line-up, we are pretty strong in that regard.
'We didn't have a great race at Le Mans last year, but as a team and a car, we have made huge strides in lots of areas so, hopefully, it can play into our favour.
'We haven't had the performance or results on our side, but the thing I am really hopeful about is that as a crew, as a team and as a Corvette programme, we're executing some really good races.
'With the energy side of things, we will probably have 27 pit-stops. Our guys have become super quick at tyre changes and the strategy has been very good in the last few events.
'When you add that up across 26 or 27 pit-stops, versus just four during the course of a race, it can really make a massive difference in the pitlane.'
The LMGT3 grid is growing for Le Mans from 18 to 24, with a third Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG and a third Manthey Porsche 911 GT3 R just two of the extra cars joining the permanent FIA WEC line-up.

What are electrostatic speakers? And are they the next big thing in the world of car audio?
Tech Great for sound quality, but how they can be packaged into cars is what makes them interesting Skip 1 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Car hi-fi speakers are heavy, bulky and wasteful of power. Packaging the speakers in the doors or dash is a headache. So is getting rid of the heat they generate. Now imagine a speaker that isn't a cone, but a simple ultralight thin film. Instead of that heavy cone with its attached magnet vibrating back and forth, the whole film vibrates under electrostatic force that changes at the frequency of the music. Advertisement - Page continues below Electrostatic speakers have been a cult among hi-fi boffins for decades, because of their natural uncoloured sound. But they are new in cars. High-end ESL headphone maker Warwick Acoustics has been in the R&D phase for car systems for years, and says it will be offered in a production car this year. You might like One of the breakthroughs is shrinking the panels. Increasing the electrostatic charge and containing it between the stator plates that sit at a 1mm gap either side of the vibrating membrane. Material science has enabled this. That means the sound level rises hugely per area of panel. Large flat panels would normally be just as hard to fit into car trim as deep cones. But new smaller panels are thin enough to lie behind curved door and dash panels, or the roofliner, or even in head restraints. The possibilities for packaging and stereo imaging are hugely exciting. Advertisement - Page continues below They're good for efficiency too. A big conventional audio system can draw nearly 1kW. Imagine a big battery EV averaging 40mph and 3mpkWh – not untypical – then the audio has wasted about 20 miles of potential range. It's worse in summer because the waste energy is heat radiated from the speakers, so you might have to run the aircon harder. The ESL uses less than one fifth of that energy. There's also a significant manufacturing imprint. Conventional magnetic speakers contain a lot of environmentally damaging rare earth metals including neodymium and dysprosium. Even in an electric car with rare earth magnets in its motors, the hi-fi can account for 30 per cent of all the rare earths in the car. While home ESLs have always been crushingly expensive, Warwick Acoustics says the new installations will be priced on par with, say, the high-end optional car systems such as Burmester. 2026 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 S Final Edition revealed
View post: Nissan Sales Are Down, But These 3 Cheap Cars Are Flying Off the Lot View post: DeWalt's 'quality' 20V reciprocating saw is 38% off at Amazon, and shoppers say it's 'the best saw ever' View post: Walmart is selling a 'durable' $67 jerry can for just $36, and shoppers say it's 'doesn't leak a single drop' Limited Edition Send-Off A redesigned Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class is on the way, but for now the high-performance AMG variants are taking a break. The 2026 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 S Final Edition sends them off in style. Boasting unique design features, it's scheduled to reach U.S. dealerships in the 2026 calendar year in 'limited numbers,' according to a Mercedes press release. 0:03 / 0:09 Audi reveals sporty new A5/S5 with an emphasis on design Watch More It Was All Yellow 1 / 2 Zoom In Launch Gallery The Final Edition will be available exclusively in Manufaktur Mountain Grey Magno, with yellow-and-black '45 S' graphics on the doors. That color palette is popular with AMG; it's also used on the AMG CLE Manufaktur Edition and goes back to the AMG C63 Edition 1 from about a decade ago. The same theme continues inside, where the heavily-bolstered wear black MB-Tex artificial leather and microfiber upholstery with yellow stitching and '45 S' branding on the headrests. More yellow stitching can be found on the door panels and dashboard, as well as on the AMG steering wheel and floor mats. Still Punches Above Its Weight 1 / 3 Zoom In Launch Gallery Other changes include 19-inch forged wheels in matte black with yellow accents and gloss-black brake calipers with white AMG lettering. Final Editions also get the AMG Night Plus Package, with darkened exterior trim, and the AMG Aerodynamics Package Plus. This adds a larger front splitter, flics, and a fixed rear spoiler. Unchanged, however, is the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which makes 416 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Claimed to be the most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine in the world when the current-generation CLA45 debuted (it's since been eclipsed by an uprated version in the AMG C63 and GLC63 plug-in hybrids), it gets this compact four-door from zero to 60 mph in a Mercedes-estimated 4.0 seconds and on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph. Hand-assembled like other true AMG engines, the turbo-four is connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and AMG-specific all-wheel drive system that includes a drift mode. New Direction For The CLA 2025 Mercedes-Benz CLA — Source: Mercedes-Benz The '45' models brought raucous AMG performance to Mercedes' compact cars, but now the automaker is going in a different direction. The latest CLA-Class emphasizes efficiency with all-electric and hybrid powertrains, and tech with new software that Mercedes hopes will be able to juggle the dozens of connected features available from various third-party apps elbowing their way onto car dashboards. That still leaves room for future AMG models, and the Mercedes performance division is hedging its bets with continued combustion-engine development. But given the current emphasis on electrified powertrains, it's possible the next AMG CLA will be a hybrid or EV instead of the pure combustion model that's about to exit the market. Nissan Patrol Nismo is here to cheer up GT-R fans
Nissan's Nismo division is having a bit of a resurgence of late by tweaking the all-electric Ariya and in other markets, the Z sports car, too. As with the Ariya, it's time for another unlikely Nissan to get the performance sub-brand's treatment, say hello to the Patrol Nismo. Unfortunately, as is the case with the V6-powered 370Z-successor, the Nissan Z Nismo, the Patrol Nismo won't come to the UK. Instead, sales will be solely restricted to the Middle East – somewhere the standard Patrol has become massively popular, thanks to its sand dune-busting off-road ability, reliability and tuneable, robust engines. Nissan has extracted 70bhp more than the regular Patrol, despite the Nismo version using the same twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine, which shares some elements with the twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6 found in the old R35-generation GT-R. In the Patrol Nismo there's now a whopping 495bhp and 700Nm of torque, a tune Nissan says was a 'direct result of extensive customer insights and feedback' from the Middle East. Advertisement - Article continues below Performance figures haven't been announced yet, but the eight-seat Patrol Nismo is 200mm longer than a Range Rover and weighs a chunky 2,817kg, so despite that powerful engine, it's unlikely to give any GT-R owners a fright. That said, the nine-speed automatic transmission has been recalibrated with quicker shifts available through the steering wheel-mounted paddles. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below The Patrol Nismo also receives a revised power steering system, a new Nismo-tuned electronic damper set-up and even a bespoke Nismo exhaust system that is engineered to 'deliver a deep, resonant note', according to Nissan. While the Nissan Patrol isn't the most aerodynamic car around, Nismo has actually gone to the trouble of adding some body parts to improve the hot SUV in this area. The new fins and wings surrounding the lower body contribute to generating downforce, along with a new rear diffuser and spoiler. A revised mesh on the front grille provides better cooling to the radiator, while new intakes reduce brake disc temperatures by six per cent – just what you need in the Middle East. Five exterior paint finishes are available: White Pearl, Grey Metallic, Blue Metallic, Black Pearl and a Nismo-exclusive Stealth Grey. Along with the typical red accents you find on Nismo cars, there are larger 22-inch forged aluminium wheels that are 23 per cent lighter than the standard car's rims. The Nismo's colour scheme extends to the interior, where you'll find red Nismo-branded sports seats, carbon-fibre 'inspired' surfaces, an aluminium accelerator and a red 12-o'clock marker on the steering wheel.
