Drive against dengue prevention in Varanasi from today
National Dengue Day
, observed every year on May 16, to raise awareness about causes and prevention of the disease.
Chief medical officer Dr Sandeep Chaudhary said people will be educated about symptoms, prevention and treatment of dengue and encouraged to maintain cleanliness around their homes. This year's theme for National Dengue Day is 'Check, Clean, Cover: Steps to Defeat Dengue'.
The CMO said all superintendents and medical officers in charge should ensure rallies were conducted in schools to educate students and camps organised in sensitive areas to check fever patients.
He said no new dengue cases were reported this year so far. Dengue cases are usually found during rainy season. To prevent and control dengue, ASHA and ANM workers will go door-to-door every Sunday, spreading awareness with the slogan 'Attack Mosquitoes, Target Larvae'.
District malaria officer, Sharad Chand Pandey, said ASHA workers would not only raise awareness in their areas but also ensure stagnant water got drained. He said, "In case of fever, consult doctor before taking any medication for

. Dengue larvae breed in clean water, so ASHA workers will ensure source elimination. They will check coolers, pots, fridge trays and containers, ensuring proper disposal of sources. appear, they should contact nearest govt hospital immediately. He said symptoms of dengue might include high fever, severe headache, joint pain, nosebleeds, skin rashes, gum bleeding, eye pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and back pain.

Karnataka to launch 393 Asha Kirana vision centres to tackle preventable blindness
To tackle preventable blindness, Karnataka's Health Department has expanded and restructured the Asha Kirana programme under the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment. As part of the restructured initiative, 393 Asha Kirana vision centres will be launched in public health facilities across the State simultaneously on July 3. Announcing this on Tuesday (July 1, 2025), Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao told presspersons that the initiative is aimed at increasing awareness and access to eye health services, particularly targeting cataracts and uncorrected refractive errors— the two major causes of vision impairment in the country. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will inaugurate a vision centre in Bengaluru on July 3 and all the 393 centres will be launched simultaneously on the same day, he said. The programme was earlier carried out through doorstep screenings by Asha workers and field staff from the Health Department on a campaign mode. However, henceforth people can visit the vision centres in the public health facilities at their convenience and get screened for eye problems, the Minister added.

Dastak drive against infectious diseases in UP begins
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh health and family welfare department rolled out the month-long Dastak campaign on Tuesday to combat infectious diseases. Started by CM Yogi Adityanath seven years ago, the campaign is a multi-departmental concerted effort to eliminate the causes of infectious diseases, especially during the monsoon season . Deputy chief minister Brijesh Pathak, who also holds the health and medical education portfolio, appealed to people to stay aware and cooperate with the health teams visiting their homes. Under the campaign, departments such as urban development, panchayati raj, irrigation, education, and women and child development, anchored by the state health department, will roll out initiatives to spread awareness against disease-causing microbes. These initiatives include cleanliness drives and vector control. Educating people about health hygiene, disease prevention, and management is also a part of the campaign. In rural areas, health department foot-soldiers, including ASHA and Anganwadi workers, reach out to people in their respective areas to educate them about fever, influenza-like illnesses, TB, leprosy, filaria, and kala-azar. Children with malnutrition are also identified in the process, and their parents are informed about the importance of diarrhoea prevention and the role of ORS and zinc in it. Practices like the consumption of safe drinking water, use of mosquito nets, vaccination against encephalitis, and personal hygiene are also promoted in the activity. Spl drive against vector-borne diseases launched in Kashi
Varanasi: With the monsoon setting in, a special communicable disease control campaign was launched in Varanasi on Tuesday. As part of the campaign, a public awareness rally flagged off by chief medical officer Dr Sandeep Chaudhary from the office at Durgakund. Led by city health officer Dr SK Chaudhary, health and sanitation workers participated in the rally to spread awareness about preventing communicable diseases. Dr Chaudhary emphasized that public participation is crucial in this mission, highlighting the importance of cleanliness in eliminating infectious diseases. He urged people to maintain cleanliness around them and encourage others to do the same, protecting themselves, their families, and society from serious illnesses.
